I'm not even really a huge fan of either of them but had to drop the facts that Swift is a classic narcissist who gets entertainment out of ruining people's careers, like she did to Perry for a little while with the backup dancer thing and tried to do to Calvin Harris, among multiple others. She has soooo many songs, even albums that remain unreleased, because she was rejected so much like Lady Gaga. It wasn't until 2008, that she finally made it and after such a long time, there was no doubt that she would be a topstar from the beginning. I don't really know about Taylor, but there were rumours she had financial help from her family, that helped her to grow, which is kinda like "buying yourself a career".
