While motor topologies have remained relatively unchanged over the past century, control techniques by comparison have experienced explosive growth. This has been driven in large part by technology advancements in the semiconductor industry. This seminar focuses specifically on advancements in the control of motors, with an emphasis on field-oriented principles with brushless AC motors.
This video is part 2 of a 5-part series and covers Field Oriented Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors.

@2.20 - 2.25 "This is spatial representation, not phasor representation". That simple statement has cleared up so much of my confusion on this topic!

"Mod-01 Lec-17 Dynamic Equations of Induction Machines". If you type it on youtube, at around 20 minutes of the first part of the video is about it there are both "spatial representation and phasor representation".

I finished watching all of these lectures and this is my second time watching them again. I also watched all of the Control System lectures by Richard Polley that preceded these. It was really intense and extremely informative. It's starting to sink in though! Thank you for sharing this with us.

These lectures are excellent! Thank you. I'm not going to waste too much time with BLDC projects ever again. I just learned about FOC yesterday and I'm never doing it the old way again.

Quote: _"I just learned about FOC yesterday and I'm never doing it the old way again."_ Same here. I had trouble finding any info on sensorless Delta commutation. The focus seems to be on the Wye configuration. The problem with the Delta wound BLDC is that all three phases are energized simultaneously. I'm going to experiment with current sensing circuits.

awesome, clear, easy to understand lecture. Does this series cover AC induction motors at any point and how to handle the i(sub d)? This is also known as the flux current in the rotor. Asynchronous motors work just like they sound, the rotor is out of synchronous alignment with the stator EMF, inducing current thru the rotor - asynchronous motors do not have permanent magnets.

Does anyone remember when did he say that DC motor is actually AC motor where FOC is performed by its mechanical structure. I'm pretty sure it was in one of his 'teaching old motors new tricks' serie.

i filled a HD bucket with water and made some soap bubbles. when you stop spinning it is easier to see what was stationary in the rotating frame was infact rotating.

If i use a series PI Regulator for Torque and Flux currents, do the regulator gain deterministic calculations remain same as mentioned in the lecture part I? i.e. we have to cancel zero of PI regulator with the pole of motor winding. If it is so, then how we will relate the 2 PI regulator zeros with 3 winding poles (L/R) since it is a 3 phase machine and we have only 2 PI regulators?

There is something I don't unserstand. Space state representation is not Phasor representation... Then what are this signals actually? Are we working with magnitudes only? What about the frequency of these signals?

Can FOC be applied on single phase induction motor?
@TheFootbaldd
@TheFootbaldd 5 років тому
I don't see why not, but the question would be why? That is an honest question. If you are going to introduce control, why would you use a single phase motor? You already have start windings. I would suggest it goes against reason to build a controller for a single phase motor.

I think there is something wrong with coffee cup analogy, actually the observer have to get inside of the cup and start spinning himself in same direction as that of bubbles, than only bubbles would become stationary.
