I have the same turntable which I bought new back in the 1970’s. It worked perfect up until I took it out of service, and would probably work if I decided to use it in the future. Technics makes good, solid, high-quality turntables among other components.

The best turntable I have always had. I have it since 1976 or so... Now is on restoration of the spin system which clogged. Fortunalately I found a tornero who will make make the bronze piece again

Those polish out really well when a good scratch remover polish is used along with a few cotton balls and a microfiber towel for final cleaning. I've done several and it can be a tedious job but well worth the effort. I would NEVER recommend what he did here.

It looks like the one I purchased in 1977. It was a great turntable. I actually gave it away to someone who later told me he never used it! Well I asked if he could return it and he said he had given to someone. Next time I won’t be so generous! 😢

one of the very first tables I used in a club around 1977....they fought me every step of the way....if you held the table to slow it down, it would speed up, if you pushed the table to speed up, it slowed down...it was battle every night...then the 1800's came out.....id do it all again...

the cover could have been better restored by using automotive scratch remover polish and a little elbow grease. then it would come out crystal clear. you can still do it. i have restored about 8 covers this way. great you brought some good equipment back to life.

@@stevesstuff1450 She is also a question of how it would work, I don't know if it's damaging the camera, but from my point of view, poorly adjusted pressure and side pull of the arm + bad speed correction (service technician and SL-Q3 owner) Mainly a poorly done job.

I have a similar unit, except the belt drive SL-B2 from 1979. It goes fine,it’s a semi automatic and decent quality. A couple of years ago I replaced that original Technics cartridge with a modern audio technica, and the sound is 100% better!

The Technics SL-D3 is a fully automatic direct drive turntable. The SL-D2 is an auto return unit. I own a Technics SL-D1 which is also a direct drive but is fully manual which is how I prefer to play my records. Most people have no idea that these great turntables are actually made by Panasonic, a name that usually is linked to el cheapo stereos. The Technics are about as good as they get for consumer level use. The direct drive turntables use NO belts or idler wheels (remember the Garrards and BSR's along with many Realistic units that all used idler wheels?) The only fault I have with any Technics turntable are those fragile tabs on the rear of the dust cover. They break quite easily of you aren't careful in how you raise and lower that cover. Mine has a replacement cover with metal tabs which makes it much more sturdy.
@breezebenitses397
@breezebenitses397 4 місяці тому
Hi Richard did you replace the dust cover tabs yourself? Where did you buy them from? Cheers
@richardcline1337
@richardcline1337 4 місяці тому
@@breezebenitses397 Yes, I found them on eBay. My replacement cover did not have the tabs so I found these, lined them up with the mounts on the turntable base and slowly drilled the holes for the screws that hold the table on. You don;'t want to run the drill fast as it will just melt the plastic and possibly crack the new cover. I would share the link but UKposts, in it's paranoid state, would just remove it.

Nice Job. Except for the hood. Missed chance there. It should have been polished properly with a metal polish or another polishing agent. It would have been shining and see through! And loosing that ancient harden't pick-up element would have been a good idea! after 10 years the cantilever inside the pick-up will not be doing its job properly, could use some rejuvination!
@richardcline1337
@richardcline1337 5 місяців тому
If I am seeing that cartridge correctly it is a Technics but I can't see the model number below the name. I have that same one on my Technics and this model has a replaceable stylus (needle)which makes it a moving magnet type. The moving coil type has to be retipped by a professional and they can get rather expensive.

Those are readily available and are usually made to order for each model. They come with metal tabs instead of the flimsy plastic ones. Normally I would recommend polishing the cover but since this one is cracked a new one would be in order.

Almost everything done in this video was pointless and it probably worked and could have been shown as working if he had just moved the arm, which turns it on. But clearly he wanted to try and trick people into thinking he did something amazing, which he did not. The re-wire, the testing, all pointless, all a waste of time.
