I converted to Catholicism back in 2000 so that I could marry my now ex-wife in her church. I didn't take any of it very serious. We divorced in 2014. I fell away from the faith completely for many many years. She wasn't a kind person. That's all I will say about this. I didn't cope with any of our relationship problems well and ended up with a substance abuse problem after a car accident back in 06'. Fast forward to july 2020 and was diagnosed stage 4 large b cell type lymphoma- 6 months chemo and it was knocked out by the grace of God. Although I was more of a non-denominational practicing Christian at that time that particular chastisement did bring me closer to Jesus. Had sobered up briefly but of course fell off the wagon. Then in January 2022 a case of pneumonia that I let go way too far landed me in the hospital and in a completely unresponsive state for 8 days. After many complications and the removal of my lower lobe of my right lung I was released from the hospital 77 days later in March. I had sobered up about 45 days before I had gone into the hospital. That particular experience shook me to my core. The hallucinations and dreams I experienced while in my "coma" were horrific. I was then on a mission to get to know our Lord and Savior on a whole new level. On October 31st,(the eve of the Feast of All Saints Day) 2022 I saw a movie/documentary about St Padre Pio and for some reason my eyes were opened completely. It was as if I had been spiritually dead my ENTIRE life and was literally being spiritually reborn that exact moment. I went to a daily mass the next morning and the rest is history for me. I believe Our Blessed Virgin Mary reached out and snagged me by the collar and placed me under her mantle. I'm not worthy but so grateful for being lead back to Jesus Christ our Lord and The one true Church, The Catholic Church. Thanks be to God. AMEN I'm still sober only and I mean ONLY by the grace of God
