I used to follow this concept religiously to the point where I almost had no takeback. It really took a toll on how I timed my contact, and it took close to 6 years for me to figure out what was going wrong with my forehand. Now when I takeback, I focus on keeping the hand placement compact, but I use my elbow motion to create a takeback for timing and power.
