I completely understand how you would think that. But the degree of crumple is related to the forward momentum and mass compared to the opposing object. The physics makes sense if you have a physics background. The toyota most likely bounced off the truck while the truck probably rapidly decelerated but continued forward. This means the Toyota received a majority of the energy. If you crashed a smart car against the Toyota the results would be opposite. This wouldn't mean the Toyota doesn't have s crumple zone.
