SAFETY GLASSES! The absence of eye protection when inducing explosions in a glass container makes my eyeballs cringe. I mowed lawns for 7 years, wore safety glasses and still had two object removal episodes. One was a grain of sand from straight below that grazed my cheek first and another a ricochet off the inside of the glasses themselves. I also continued to wear them with a deep pock (a co worker mowed un-compacted gravel) in the very center of the left lens to show new people to the crew just how important it is to wear them at all times on site. These were not goggles. Maybe they should have been.

Try a multichambered Tesla Valve, converging at one point. This will allow for increased flow in one direction and further decreased in the opposite. Great videos, the both of you!
@Jakerbrake
@Jakerbrake 4 роки тому
The problem with a Tesla valve, is that there isn't enough velocity in the intake for it to work properly, and to increase velocity you will be creating restrictions in the intake. That being said I am still not giving up on the idea! Keep trying people!
@3DPDK
@3DPDK 4 роки тому
The "JarJet" needs a larger hole. On the extreme end, a completely open jar will burn continuously, but the flame will "flutter" as the air is (partially) evacuated by the flame and then rushes back in to fill the created vacuum. Burning a candle in a short but narrow tube can create the same flutter effect. As the open end of the jar decreases in size, the gas-air mixture is evacuated more energetically. The "flutter" will increase in frequency and become louder. At some point, as the hole size is decreased and depending on the volume of the gas mixture in the jar, the explosive ignition ejects ALL the air and gas inside, including the heat (flame) necessary to keep the process going. The highest fuel to thrust ratio is at that point just before the explosion extinguishes the process. One of the design considerations of a model pulse jet is the length of the exhaust tube. It not only controls the frequency of pulse, it also retains a portion of the flame from the previous pulse that travels back up the tube to the combustion chamber for the next ignition. The best pulse jet is one that pulses at a double harmonic of the tube length. The longer the engine runs, the more the ignition heat is retained and the engine runs more reliably. By it's manufacturing nature, a plastic pulse jet will self-destruct as it stabilizes because the stability of the jet depends on a buildup of heat. P.S. The reed valves in a model pulse jet are to prevent the back flow of air, not so much the fuel. The Tesla fluid valve for the fuel is mostly unnecessary since the fuel is under pressure anyway.
@Nash4Nashville

@psycronizer

hmm...never seen a Tesla valve before, and I wonder about the fluid dynamics , that valve does not look like it is designed to be used with extremely low viscosity fluids, like gases, looks like it is only for liquids.see my other comment about the pulse jet issue.
@3DPDK
@3DPDK 4 роки тому
@@psycronizer The word you should use is velocity rather than viscosity. A Tesla valve works, but it works best the faster a fluid moves through it in the "blocked" direction. The inertia of the fluid turning back on itself (practically) blocks the flow. Viscosity does have an effect but even molasses, if moving slow enough through the valve will flow through unimpeded.

If you use the 3D printers to just create a scaffold for a plaster version, or something of similar heat resistance, I think it would work perfectly without being destroyed. Also, you could take calculations on the volume of the ignition area, the time it takes for each unit of that volume to fully ignite, and then program the spark to go off in those intervals, you might be able to optimize the whole setup to ignite the first time every time.

Love your stuff, man. I'm no scientist, but am a plumber who works a lot with different kinds of torches. I think their design is Very similar to what you are trying to do, except very different applications. You said it yourself, you need a good mixture of air and fuel. You cannot simply scale things down and expect them to work the same way. You need to make adjustments to the gas pressure as well air. Also check where your gas inlet is, in proportion to where your oxygen gets mixed in. Also, Youd be surprised how little of a gas hole you really. Just need more pressure.

I've built that same exact pulse jet years ago out of sheet metal. I rolled it and welded it. I used a regular propane tank for a bbq and copper tubing for the fuel line. I welded nut on the end of it and screwed in a spark plug. To run the spark plug I wired it to my car. I started my car and it was running minus the one cylinder. I used an air compressor like you to force air through it to get it started. It started and ran fine. It was so loud all my neighbors came out to see what was going on. I'm sorry your experiment didn't work. You should keep trying. I know for a fact that design works well.

Frickin' hilarious! I stumbled upon your channel and can't stop laughing - well done! One note on the pulse jet with plaster liner: for a uniform coating try a slip-cast method. I have done this using clay as the slip material and plaster as the mold. In your case you may be able to chill the 3D printed part from the outside(cold water bath); let it sit for a period of time and then pour the slip out... Could be fun, no?

I think the problem in your red pulse jet is that the gas pressure is not high enough, therefore it cannot sustain a continuous burst. (I don't know anything about pulse jets, but seems a good idea to try, I mean, what coulg possibly go wrong...)

I think a major factor in the struggle to start the engines is that after a few failures, you need to blow into the end, just to reset your mixture. If you don't do that, the engine will flame out on ignition due to a lack of an oxidizer.

I think metal works better because it heat up and that helps with combustion, like difference in cold or hot car engine. Also I know that that doesnt work well with plastic but it's much easier to just use torch than spark to get it going.

This may be off topic, but someone might find it interesting. Over unity electric generator. By AMA. Segment 1: 1 motor with bar connected to it standing vertically. Circular disc connected to bar that has magnets embedded in it surrounded in high permeability material to focus magnets outward pushing force in an upwards direction from top of disc. Segment 2: Hollowed out cylindrical Bar of material horizontally positioned. Flat hollowed out ring shaped material with openings around its outer top flat edge. Magnets surrounded in high permeability material embedded in these openings. Magnets positioned in openings around ring are in at least 1 of 2 configurations either all N magnetic field pushing out or N,S,N,S all around it. Just depends on whether your going for Piston structure or spinning structure explained below & whether you want it to be DC or AC current. Place these all along the cylindrical bar connected to it solidly, except at far ends of bar. At both ends of bar place ring of material that can be magnetically repelled in specific locations. (magnetically repelled in specific location is in reference to outside of ring area that faces away from center of bar)(Other side of same ring facing in towards center of bar is capable of being magnetically repelled all around) Ring must be connected solidly to bar. points of repulsion on these rings is off set from each other on each end of bar. 3 Hollow ring structures with small square bars protruding from each. Ring structure has all magnetic repulsion on inside of ring shape & can rap around the main bar so that the bar wont be causing friction on things as it moves back and forth or spins. 1st positioned around far left of bar, 2nd position at center of bar (be sure to leave enough room for magnetic structures to be able to move back and forth without hitting it) & 3rd positioned on far right of bar. Tube structure is constructed in two parts that fit together on top of each other length wise over main structure. Tube structure has 3 square openings for the bars that the Ring structures that are connected around the main bar keeping it from causing friction on structure, to slide into. This tube structure is designed with material that does not block magnetic fields. Perhaps some type of transparent material glass or other. At both ends of the tube structure there is a built in circular groove that will house a round disc. The ceiling/floor/left side/& right side of groove has openings for small magnets to be embedded in it, so that the pushing force from magnets is pushing in towards the edge of disc that goes in this spot. There is also 4 openings located on the top, bottom, left & right positions of the open groove. Small magnets are placed in these spots so when round disc is in position these magnetic fields will hit sideways keeping it from generating friction against structure. Far Ends of bar has Cap structure that screws over tube halves holding them together. Cap structure also has 4 points on inside top, bottom, left & right that have openings. These openings have small embedded magnets in them that exert there pushing force outwards (sideways) so it will keep disc in position, generating no friction against structure. Cap is made of material like tube so it does not block magnetic fields. (Note: These magnets in groove and cap structure are only needed for piston design. If Disc is directly connected to main bar so as it spins the bar spins, magnets are not needed here). The disc has ring around it (ring of material goes around outer edge and folds over front side & backside a small distance) that is repelled by magnetic fields so the 12 small magnets will keep it lined up but it will be able to spin without causing friction on structure. The disc has openings on it's flat side that face inside of tube and magnets surrounded in high permeability material are embedded in this disc. The disc has small bar that is connected to it's center that goes all the way to the other end of bar structure through the center of the hollowed out bar and connects to disc on other end. Disc on other end is set up the same but magnets embedded in it are off set in comparison. As first disc spins the magnetic fields will push against specific spot on disc connected directly to bar, pushing bar in other direction, once bar is fully pushed over, further spinning of disc will then align the other sides magnet to push it back. Tube structure also has half moon shaped protrusion on inside and on both halves so when tube is connected they line up to make a full ring shape on inside of tube, these half moon shaped protrusions have at least 1 small round opening on it's side in middle of curve that faces away from center of bar. The opening has a small magnet embedded in it so magnetic force is repelling out sideways away from center of bar. The protruding ring is positioned to line up slightly further in towards center of bar then the ring of magnetically repelled material connected directly to bar. This way when bar moves right or left it is magnetically stopped after a short distance. Copper coil setup: Copper coils are wound in at least 1 of 2 ways. Either coiled in circles next to each other (Like if you wound coils around a cylindrical bar) or laid out in a row as if wire was on flat table going up then bent to go down & back up until it formed a flat rectangle of wire bending up and down and then the entire structure folded around tube. Copper windings are then lined up perpendicular to magnetic fields on outside of tube. Ends of copper coils are connected into separate construct that will allow electrical current to flow somewhere else. Circular construct is built like a stand that goes around the outside of motor segment. Circular construct has flat ring of high permeability (magnetic field shielding) material that has small openings that will allow magnetic fields through specific locations. Top of circular construct has groove to allow the horizontal bar to balance on. Circular construct can also be placed on other end of bar so it is balanced. The motor segment is positioned so the disc connected to the bar that is connected to the motor is lined up so the disc passes under the horizontal bars disc that is at end of horizontal bar. The high permeability material keeps the magnetic fields in disc from hitting into the disc that spins or pushes the horizontal bar until just the right moment when the impact will cause the disc in horizontal bar to spin which will perpetuate the piston motion in the horizontal bar. More horizontal bars of the same design are built and positioned around the motor segment in a circular horizontal fashion all the way around. The bar connected to the motor can be increased in length to desired height (As much as motor can handle) and more of the exact same setup is repeated higher and higher up, maximizing the over unity potential of the construct to ridiculous proportions. :D Current from the horizontal bars is diverted to power the motor as needed and all other current is diverted to power my game console or the world. :) Interesting variation to this design would be to connect the spinning discs on far ends of horizontal bar to main bar that magnets are connected to so the magnets spin instead of getting pistoned back and forth. So long as moving magnetic fields are perpendicular to copper wires it should work. By AMA

The hot jet body isn't the ignition source. The pulses pull flame from the previous ignition back in and that reignites the engine.

I have been recommending using nano sized tesla valve types built in crystalline lattice structures with doped graphene to create particle accelerators and also desalination filters and CO2 scrubbing for years now. Also for hypersonic travel jet engines. I hope someone runs with this soon. Also magnetic flow valves that are dynamically controlled digitally at high speeds can enhance and control the flows according. Gases within the valve systems can be ignited at different mach level speeds at different points along the valve depending what gas is being channeled into the flow at what time, temperature and speed of the craft.

Ok first of all, great video, well produced. Thumbs up and subbed. BUT I've studied pulsejets and played around with one. So two probable errors here: 1) it did NOT start. That sound was your air compressor starting. All you got was a flame for a while, long enough to melt the plastic. 2) you couldn't get more than a few pulses out of any design most likely because the chambers resonant frequency did not match the speed of the fuel+oxidizer combustion speed. Here is how to fix it: start with a longer exhaust tube, try starting it, and keep cutting off 0,3 cm at a time until it starts. Write down the tube length. Then continue cutting off more until it refuses to start again. Write down that tube length. The perfect tube length is in the middle between those two numbers. Now build a new one that has the perfect length. 3) the second thing you need to tweak is the size of the bottleneck in the intake Tesla valve. You probably need more valves or a larger valve. The air intake is probably choked right now. You can tell the difference between the two errors because the first error will give you a single pulse and no repeat. The second error will give you a few good pulses (like 3-10) and then it will starve (from lack of oxygen) and stop.

The sparking of an automotive coil (12 VDC auto-transformer) can be done using an auto ignition IGBT switch and a signal generator producing a turn on pulse (single) or a train of pulses (a sequence of pulse with a set duty cycle and frequency). You don't need a capacitor on the output for a simple circuit. Most ECM IGBT applications have a low value high voltage capacitor on the output, but this is for EMC. The IGBT should be on a heatsink, but can easily be driven directly from a digital source (555 CMOS timer) or a signal generator. The power supply can be a DC 12V power supply of about 10 Amps (best to use a linear designed supply with a large output capacitor, and also have a supply smoothing cap near the coil power feed (like a 1 uF X7R ceramic to help accommodate any lead inductance).

Dear Integza you can increase the temperature resistance of your prints using a starlite like mixture, despite not being the true thing the results will allow your jet engines to reach higher temperatures with out melting.

Looking at the jam jar engine... Making a vertical exhaust resonation tube on the jar lid that the flame spits into would make this work reliably I think. I've messed with air horns a lot and find the resonation tube to be essential. They function in a similar way too if you think about it, they both have a chamber and a exhaust hole, they both rely on a pressure wave to induce resonance, and in the air horns you get a lower frequency and greater modulation power the longer the tube is.... So why not a pulse jet? 🤔😁 Try it for me I have no time!

You could use a double pole double throw relay, the ignition coil and battery and presto... Simply place one of the relay coil's winding in series with the NC aramture point. When it powers up it opens -breaking the connection. The spring brings it back closed and cycle is finished then repeats. The other points serve as the ignition coild points. Works great...like the old OLD door bells. Also messes up TV' reception....be careful.
