My headcannon for bedrock is that it's made up of corpses and skeletons of those who died by falling into the lava under the bedrock. According to the official Minecraft Blockpidea: there used to be a layer of lava under bedrock. Quote: "During early development of the game, there was a sea of lava beneath the lowest level of bedrock" It makes sense for the bedrock in the neather, too. Those who dropped onto the neather and/or died underneath had their souls ripped from them into the soulsand/soulsoil. That's why there are faces and (possibly) other body parts in the bedrock texture because there are actual bodies in the rock.
