Albanian current ethnic borders result from massive expansion in the last 2-3 centuries. Read about the Karposh Uprising when the Austrian army with Piccolomini came to Skopje and burned it to the ground, afterwards 90% of the Macedonians from the western and northern part of Macedonia followed the Austrian army because they feared the reprisals of the Bashiboozouks. The population settled in today's Serbian Krajina in Bosnia, the border between Austria and Turkey at the time. This was used by the Albanians who slowly settled village by village. First of the Macedonians who came back after some time settled in the village Vratnica, that's why it has that name which means "Place of return". For my village for example, Albanians came to work for rich Macedonian and Turkish families and slowly they took their families with them here, both Albanians and Macedonians know and accept this, and this is still the case today when people from the poorer regions of Albania are coming to work here
