I wish people knew it’s okay to do shows in college not everything has to be about “ high schoolers”

Okay but college would have been such a better setting. Let me paint the scene: Velma is a forensic science major and true crime fanatic. When a haunting starts happening on campus, she becomes obsessed with proving that a real person is actually behind it. Fred is an engineering major on a sports scholarship. He doesn't really care about athletics, he just wants to build stuff and helps Velma cause he gets to make traps. Daphne is a marketing major and Velma's roommate. She's dangerously curious about all the things her wealthy, controlling parents sheltered her from and finds that ghosthunting is very empowering. Shaggy is an undecided major with extreme anxiety, hence his emotional support dog, Scooby Doo. He only went to college cause his parents threatened to stop supporting him. He gets kidnapped by the "ghost" on campus while getting stoned one night, and Velma, Daphne, and Fred have to save him. He accidentally helps them defeat the ghost and though he hates it, he joins mystery incorporated cause he's never really had friends before. The show continues with them solving a new mystery every episode (like the cartoon), but a longer plotline will unravel throughout the season, coming to a head in the season finale as they find out that the dean is behind all the hauntings. The dean was trying to scare away students, because the school has lost funding and needs to suspend some of its programs.

I get the feeling that you didn’t know Coolsville is the actual name of Mystery Inc’s hometown in most Scooby Doo anthologies. There are a few versions where they are from Crystal Cove, but most versions are Coolsvile. So you can’t really blame the show for having a lame name for the town setting.

The biggest question I have is why do you have to base everything in high school when the actors look mid 30s. Like at LEAST make it college or even better, just completely out of the education system, trying to figure out how to do what they love while also having to make money to support themselves. OR cast actual teens.

I'm mainly annoyed that Fred doesn't have an ascot tie. He's like the only character known for that tie and he doesn't have it. Edit: Plus, it's a show titled after the Mystery Incorporated series in which he is wearing it so while some versions of him don't have it, this one should.

I hope they watch this video and take your criticisms well because I totally agree with you. Yes, it's supposed to be a teen drama, but it's Scooby-Doo for crying out loud, it need a little bit more character. Like you said, it's giving Riverdale or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I have a very important question that hopefully gets answered: does Scooby even talk??

Interesting side fact: So Velma saying "ancient Latin" had me googling if there was a Latin that wasn't in fact ancient and it turns out that there is a New Latin that developed in the 16th century for academic and scientific purposes. Never really considered that before and wanted to share.

Say what you want about this but when this showed up in my recommended and I watched it for the first time, I absolutely loved it. They clearly did the research on the actual canon of Scooby Doo and it’s a very dark swing. I mean for a fan film that I honestly hope continues, it’s good!

Fun Fact: In Golden Girls the actresses were actually much younger than the characters they portrayed... so it's like the total opposite of what this "teen" shows do. 😅

I am impressed by the fact this is a fan-funded indie project even if the script needs work and the simple change from high school to college would have sold the actors better. Or leaning into the joke of looking too old in some way maybe.

Velma is anxious, nerdy, awkward and has zero sex appeal. That's a courageous casting choice and that's absolutely perfect. It's the Velma we needed.

In almost every adaptation the gang is in high school. It would be strange to have them all meet eachother for the first time any differently. They nailed it.

I watched this recently, and honestly, I loved it. It's clearly a passion project, and I see no reason to hate on it. I wouldn't call this edgy as much as its more so like Zombie Island's type of creep. I get why they made the characters more deep, to bring us in, and I think it does work honestly. Velma rejects supernatural and is a complete nerd, perfect. Daphne has high expectations from her parents, but still a good heart, 100% what I would think of her. Shaggy, down in school, skipping class, gets picked on, and knows where to find "the stuff", I can definitely see that. Fred is honestly the hardest to work with, but he does have a sense of leadership and they might show him skilled in engineering, traps, etc. and I would figure he'd be the athletic kid, his story really caught me off guard but I can follow. I'm really excited for the new episodes, and I hope they will be just amazing. Great job for a fan film, I'm hooked. :D

No offence to the creators (as they interpreted the show differently and developed the show themselves) but as someone who grew up on scooby doo mystery incorporated im not sure if this is for me. I know its in a completely different timeline so it doesnt have to be loyal to the original show and isn't canon but to sum up my opinion so far, it kinds of feels like the creators wanted to make their own show about mystery solving kids and just add scooby-doo and the rest of the gang. I cant really judge it though, I can see why they removed scooby-doo from the title and just called it mystery incorporated. Edit: Just wanted to clarify I have watched the actual episode and I can tell the people who made it care about the IP (through all the references and inclusion of things such as the hex girls) so I can assure you this isnt a quick attempt to make money but it just doesnt feel like scooby-doo, apart from that though im pretty sure the show will find an audience. Im not apart of that audience though, good luck to the creators

This episode was clearly a passion project for all the people involved in the production so I don’t want to hate on it on it too much. For a fanmade show it’s amazing. I do see plenty of ways they can improve the show though! 😊

Honestly, you can tell that they at least did their research when making this. Coolsville is the cannon name of the town used in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo where Daphne actually was fabulously wealthy even amongst a town of financially stable families; who's kids really don't have to worry about much of anything (even going to school if the gang's early adventures are something to consider); Shaggy's dad actually was a police officer (thus why he was so rebelliously unstructured), and Velma's family members are all high-ranking, very well-respected scientists, doctors, and super successful business professionals in nearly any scientific fields that you can think of. Oddly enough, Fred's family was the only one who really didn't get much development in that series. Velma also ran her own book store in Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, likely meaning that they may intend to have her take over her mother's book show later on down the line. That likely means that at some point Daphne will express a desire to be a news anchor or television host, Fred will become her one man crew, and Shaggy and Scooby will likely become contraband security officers at their local airport. That is to say, later on towards the end of the series if they make it that far. It's pretty clear that this is going to be a series that's going off the rails, especially if those three girls are going to be the choices they've made for the Hex Girls, but the touch on the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo is a nice touch. And, replacing the 13 ghosts that appear in that series with 13 of the most iconic monsters and ghosts that the series ever produced is a smart choice on the writers' parts. Like I said, they've clearly done their research. It's just a matter of how corrupted they choose to go with all this research. If they keep it from going too far off the rails, then they may have something interesting. Especially since they have so much material to work with. We can only hope, but not have high expectations for. Also, if a character named Red Herring (yes, I'm very serious about that name) shows up in the series that's another call back to A Pup Named Scooby-Doo where Fred was always quick to blame the school bully for all the weird stuff that went on, only to be proven wrong almost every single time.

I love the fact that fans made this show as a passion project, but there are plenty of ways to improve it, hopefully they hear different opinions and decide to better their show.

I agree with age problem and there were a few weird pieces of dialogue and some not so okay acting moments, but other than that the first episode kept me intrigued. This could be me self projecting a bit, but I believe Velma was written to be Autistic. She doesn't understand social norms and formalities often coming across as awkward. She gets overwhelmed being around a lot of people and tends to be very literal. I hope they lean more into this writing when it comes to her character. Also side note(but still just as important) SHAGGY IS SO FREAKING CUTE!!! From his messy hair to his brown puppy dog eyes to his cute little button nose. I freaking love this version of Shaggy❤😅❤

Yeah, I'm not too familiar with teen dramas, but this one's definitely pushing Dawson casting to its limits. Actually, I'm kinda wondering if the actors' ages might just be intended as a meta joke about the trope's prevalence in the genre.

In all fairness to the show, Coolsville is the actual name of the town that the Scooby gang is from. So in this case I don't blame the studio I blame Hanna-Barbera.

This show is amazing. People complain daphne is just a rich kid and loses her character development but I argue that this gives her ample chance for development. This is a pilot, the characters arent meant to feel complete. I think this project is what riverdale and supernatural wanted to be...good.

In their UKposts bio, they said this show is heavily inspired by Riverdale the O.G. Scooby Doo and Supernatural. That’s why the first few seconds feels so Riverdale-ish. My favorite part was seeing the Hex Girls perform their iconic song, so I’ll give it that.

This mostly gives me big Riverdale season one vibes. I feel like the charm of Scooby Doo is partially because there was never murder or anything that dark, but still mysteries that did warrant solving. I agree it's cool of them to be doing it through Indie go go. The dialogue doesn't always land for sure, and Fred definitely looks old as fuck.

Despite how they characters look this go around. The plot and lore behind it is really good. I love it

I was very confused by people talking about this when I remembered seeing people talking about Mystery Incorporated over a decade ago- but I just found out that was Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated which was animated- pretty gutsy of them to release fan project with almost the exact same name as an existing scooby-doo entry

I actually saw these actors in a panel, theyre really sweet and are excited about the show. They even talked about how much they praise Matthew Lillard for like 20 minutes lmao

I hate to point this out, but I'm a big fan who's watched a solid half of your videos, and I have a severe seizure disorder. The lights in the demon scene with Velma and Fred in the bookstore triggered one. it's really important to put light warnings for people like me with seizure disorders, because most people don't realize that seizures can and frequently do kill people, even if they quickly get to an ER. There's been a movement to putting light warnings, and it's been amazing for my seizures and anxiety watching content. For reference, of all the videos of yours I've watched, this is the only one that needs that warning so far, and I'm asking if you can put that in the future, like graphic content warnings. It seems small, but the movement towards putting timestamps for lights like that has allowed me to much more safely enjoy content. it really doesn't pop up that frequently, so it shouldn't be much at all to start including warnings for that. I'm definitely not saying go through every video or anything at all like that, just that if you could put one for this video for the demon scene and for future videos, it would be incredible. Any lights that flicker or flash (especially when unexpectedly) can trigger seizures, for clarification on when this warning is necessary. For an indie project, this is REALLY impressive! If I didn't know, I would have been convinced that this was a professional show! Also, I find it funny how it's called Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated because there's an actually animated scooby doo show with thst exact name that's really good!

It's weird, but it's a fun kind of weird. It's faithful to Scooby Doo all-around, from the old incarnations to newer ones, with a dark feel to it like the Mystery Incorporated cartoon did. I agree that the actors look a little old to be acting as high schoolers, and the teen drama part of it is kinda cringy, but overall I find it to be a REALLY good ode to the Scooby Doo franchise.

I'm proud of the Scooby fandom for making this happen,there's definitely stuff that can be improved on and I hope they get the chance to make it better

The only thing I can say is that this “Scooby-Doo” thing has people who play young but in irl are way older or alters looks like they are way older every single human there looks to be 35 or older they didn’t even try making them look younger just tried having stupid “pitcher” voice does not work…

These were literally the most efficient and organized bullies I've ever seen in media. Outside of the "Haha get rekt ur dad's dead" scene, every time they showed up, they had a clear goal and were actively (and swiftly succeeding) at doing it.

A rocky start for an Indie project based off the Scooby Doo franchise: 1. The ghost/demon that was summoned by Fred and Velma was the "Miner 49'er" 2. The book that Velma's Mom had is an allusion to the chest from the spinoff, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo 3. The Hex Girls are well-known Scooby Doo characters from the 90's and early 2000s animated movies 4. The Hex Girls' mention of "12 more to go" is another reference to the spinoff, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo 5. The Red-eyed Demon near the start of the show is a reference the first mystery solved in the very first episode of the Scooby Doo franchise 6. Shaggy's Drug Deal scene...well...you get the joke 7. The "mysterious voice" that talked with Velma's Mom is a reference to another animated reboot, Mystery Inc.

"Coolsville" was established to be the gang's home town back in the late 1980s, as the setting for the prequel series "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". It was a silly name then, for a silly show. But it stuck as the gang's canon home town, being the name used in future series as well as the live action movies. If you want to, you might be able to blame it all on Scrappy Doo. Allegedly, the growing hatred towards Scrappy Doo is the main reason the people in charge decided to make a prequel series, which is why they made a series where the gang were kids, which is why they needed a name for the home town for the gang.

If there going to do a gritty scooby reboot, it needs to be more like stranger things than CW. Not that stranger things is perfect, but at least it manages to balance horror and fun moments we'll. Not to mention, the characters actually have a personality and the kids actually act like kids

I actually really liked the pilot, as a big Scooby Doo fan, I loved the little easter eggs they threw in for the fans who know about the history of Scooby Doo. Given that the production for episode 1 was only $20,000 I was greatly impressed with what they made.

i was super skeptical going into this as someone who utterly despises gritty remakes and came out of it extremely happy. was this a direction i particularly wanted for scooby doo? no. does it have its flaws? sure. but it's shockingly good for an entirely indie, crowd-funded and fanmade project and absolutely adore the amount of passion and love put into it by the creators as possible and that made me thoroughly enjoy it

This concept is actually good. Season based story with Stranger Things vibe. But with mysterious fantasy type, like how the older movies are, like not really fantasy but not really straight forward.

i loved the cast, and the beginning but then they started with the whole demon thing...its been done so many times,i wanted the idea of people in costumes and solving the crime type deal. Plus the hex girls was such a great cameo adding and singing "put a spell on you" but they ruined it with them being actual witches or whatever when Thorn was just a wicken not a witch.

Haven’t seen it, but my first thought is they took away the one concept of scooby doo. I get making it dark and killing and all as well as giving back stories to characters, that’s great, but making the “supernatural” real just feels stupid. Scooby doo came to show that monsters are people and anything else doesn’t really exist because it’s all an invention. I don’t get why they should actually put real demons in it. It would’ve probably worked great if they had acted like it could be a demon, with the books and the weird things happening, but by the end of it they figured out it was all made up and it was mainly their fear getting in the way

This is why i loved the original live action movies from the 2000s. They kept it campy and fun, didnt try to make it dark or grown like so many kids shows/books are adapted to these days. Wish they kept the campy vibes more, would have made the 'cheaper' production look better too since it would seem intentional

Low-key, Buffy the Vampire Slayer already did a gritty Scooby Doo reboot. Ensemble class, with a group of friends from different walks of life, Willow was the Velma, Cordelia was the Daphne, and Oz was Scooby. XD They even jokingly called themselves the Scooby gang. I agree the best way to make this watchable is to channel Buffy, though I don't know if anything else can really hold a candle to Buffy or the life action Scooby films, especially without Sarah Michelle Gellar.

I'm here to say that it is still better than Velma and Riverdale combined

I know that a lot of the “teen shows” are played by people in their mid-late twenties and somewhat look like teens but these actors all LOOK their age and not like teens

I enjoyed that it was made by people without corporate backers, but it mashes so much lore into one story that it ends up changing quite a bit of the lore so that it fits. **Spoilers** not sure if he talks about it later.*** I was kinda peeved that the Hex Girls were working for the villain, their whole point in the movie Witch’s Ghost was that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

I watched it and I feel like people need to give this some time, I mean it’s fanmade and a reimagined version of Scooby Doo, plus we’re only on episode 1, I just want the creators to take these criticisms and improve the show, I cannot wait to see how it progresses.

Two things... one it was always called Coolsville, even in the 70s. Two, those "girls from the band" are the Hex Girls!! Wait...if they have the Hex Girls, you don't think... A future Josie and the Pussycats episode!?!?! I know they "tried" it with Riverdale, but I feel like it would work better here lol.

Personally, I really enjoyed the first episode. I agree there are things they can improve on. But taking into consideration everything they managed to achieve with what they could ON THEIR OWN, it's really impressive and that's an achievement in itself. I think that's what made me enjoy and appreciate the episode more and overlook the issues that were still there. I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt and improve upon the feedback they receive[d].

If anyone needed the answer to the play button question, it belongs to the actor who plays Shaggy, Chris Villain. They revealed it in an impromtu interview when Nerdsync did a livestream reaction.

I believe that they are purposefully aiming for a CW vibe to poke fun at them. I am convinced of this from the casting too. They have so many easter eggs and callbacks to deep Scooby lore that it's not possible they just don't know their source material. This is intentional and I am 1000% down for this and am so excited OMG!!

One thing I gotta commend these guys for is FINALLY MAKING SCOOBY DOO AN ACTUAL DOG. No more cringe CGI
