The seven deadly sins are a grouping of vices classified by the Christian faith as pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony and sloth. Throughout history these 7 deadly sins have been used to label individuals and their sinful actions and today were going to apply Major League Baseball. There are 7 teams that I believe represent the seven deadly sins and I’ll be going over them all.

The Dodgers imo should be Greed, Gluttony, or Lust, with their endless amounts of money being shelled out on contracts that break the league and aren't fair, and continue to want more and more despite the good team they already have. The Padres should be Envy, as they center themselves around being a wannabe and even less homegrown version of the Dodgers. The Cardinals should replace the A's for Sloth due to the front office's antiquated and outdated culture and philosophy of team building, relying on old names from the past instead of building and developing properly for the future. I think you could also make a case for the Mets representing Envy as well, too.

The Blue Jays are combination of Greed, Sloth and Pride. Greed because they think they can charge so much for tickets and food when the product has underachieved for the last 2 seasons. Sloth for not firing any management that has caused them to slam into a wall time and time again. Pride for how Rogers uses the moniker of “Canadas team”, to guilt trip people to thinking what they’re doing is fine and to watch the team in fears you aren’t a true Canadian if you don’t. Fellow Padres fan here, I personaly don't think that our lineup of shortstops is a problem. I see you forgot to mention that Fernando tatis junior won a platinum glove in right field, ha seong Kim was top 5 in war and is a great defender, chronenwerth and bogaerts were never top tier defenders. Bogaerts will be much more valuable as a second basemen, and chronenwerth has proved to be a valuable first basemen. Many machado was 2nd place in MVP 2years ago. The bigger problem is our payrole. The Padres fans will all admit that the parole situation isn't the greatest, but our shortstops arent, especially how they have performed at their new positions.

@Anim3Gamer

I want to note - the amount of Shortstops the Padres have is by design. The GM for the Padres - AJ Preller - believes in one major tenet: That Shortstops are the most Athletic position in the game and anyone who can fill that position can fill any of the other 8 positions on the field. The current Padres right now field 7 Shortstops in their everyday lineup, with only the Catcher and Pitcher positions not normally being manned by converted Shortstops. One of the trade pieces they gave to the Nationals is a Shortstop named CJ Abrams who is currently raking this year. Their #1 International Pick of 2023 is a 17-year-old Shortstop who went straight to Single-A. Eguy Rosario, a bench piece who got his full-time call up this year is capable of playing Shortstop (though he mainly plays 2B and 3B.) Tyler Wade, a bench trade piece they got when they traded Soto to the Yankees, plays 2B and SS. Matthew Batten, another bench piece in his 2nd year can play Shortstop though primarily a 2B & 3B. Campusano, Higashioka, and Pauley are the only Position Players to NOT play the SS position on the Active Roster as of April 24th, 2024 - and two of them are Catchers. That said, it has been noted in the past that Cronenworth can be put into Catcher in Emergency Instances (it's never happened but he has noted he can go there in a pinch.) As you can tell - AJ Preller LOVES his Athletic Shortstops and loves to hoard them. Whether that love is something that has ultimately prevented the Padres from winning a World Series... that is hard to say. After all, the Padres have NEVER won a World Series in the first place and the entire City of San Diego is cursed by the Sports Gods but that is another thing altogether.
@lifeisboss7097
@lifeisboss7097 7 днів тому
@@Anim3Gamer I in large part agree. I will note that 1st: Preller *is* right SS is hardest infield position, as you can see from all the people like Machado who are elite 3rd basemen but weren't exactly elite shortstops. As for the outfield I think turning Tatis and Merrill into + outfielders (as of now, merrill's sample is small) seems to indicate the same thing. As to your final point about WS chances, im realistically not sure what preller should of done differently? I went through how they got each of these players/who in their system that they could of kept around that might of been upgrades. That is to say im leaning more towards your last sentence than the prior one. (also tiny nitpick, Tyler Wade was traded by NYY to LAA, became a free agent, and had a year in oakland before signing as a free agent w/ SD)

To be clear I agree w/ your logic to put the Padres as gluttony for hording shortstops. But the padres are not handicapped defensively in any way. Having a 'excess' of shortstops is certainly true, and the fact that they can field an entire lineup of ex-ss (if you include the catcher last year Nola) is certainly hilarious and worth pointing out, but to claim that they aren't good this season 15 games in, or to claim that having ss everywhere has been part of that reason feels rather unfounded.
@lifeisboss7097
@lifeisboss7097 13 днів тому
To go more in depth on trade/FA history there are like 2 maybe 3 things that the padres had the power to change: 1 Jurickson Profar vs Ty France; Juan Soto vs Xander Bogaerts. Starting w/ first base in a 202 trade that retrospectively has not been good for the Padres (for multiple reasons, not just the Ty France part), the Padres sent 1st base prospect Ty France (who I will not was 'blocked' by Eric Hosmer [who most certainly never played SS]) to the Mariners in a deal that did not work out. On the Xander Bogaerts vs Juan Soto point, hypothetically if the Padres didn't sign a massive free agent the 22-23 window (though reports indicated they targeted many people, Aaron Judge [Not a SS], Trae Turner [a SS] amongst others) they might of had the budget to ink Juan Soto to a long term deal though that is a hard MAYBE. Given the Padres hypothetically didn't trade Ty France and keep Soto instead of signing Bogaerts their defensive linup would be: Catcher: Luis Campusano; 1st: Ty France; 2nd: Jake Cronenworth (ex-SS); 3rd: Manny Machado (ex-SS); SS: Ha-Seong Kim (SS); LF: Juan Soto; CF: Jackson Merrill [in this situation Padres either trade Trent Grisham for pitching w/o Soto or Merrill just wins the job outright, both of which I think are possible)] (ex-SS); RF: Fernando Tatis Jr. (ex-SS). Do note still 6/8 non-catcher fielders are still ex-SS w/o realistic improvements in my mind (Would you like to have judge in center, yes, do the padres A: have the budget for that or B: the ability to convince him to come to SD in the first place? no).
@lifeisboss7097
@lifeisboss7097 13 днів тому
I want to reiterate that I like your video a lot and agree w/ the pick, but to conclude this fun thought exercise the Padres would have to have the premonition that 1: Austin Nola was not it. 2: Eric Hosmer would decline dramatically. 3: Ha-Seong Kim would break out to become a top 50 player in MLB (by Bwar iirc?). 4: That they would be bad enough in 2023 that resigning FAs like Snell and Hader and Soto would seem like a bad idea (so they don't sign Xander the previous offseason). 5: Know that Scott Boras might lose a bunch of his clients due to him not being able to secure massive deals for Snell and Montgomery (so they might actually be able to sign soto) to get a marginally better lineup that has 2 less ex shortstops.
@lifeisboss7097
@lifeisboss7097 13 днів тому
If you want to go further back than the last 2 years and talk about players like Profar Tatis Cronenworth Machado and Kim joining the team, or their drafting strategy there certainly can be arguments made there. However going player by player down the list at least gives me reason to counter any of those arguments. Profar was first gained in a trade w/ the Oakland As at a time when 2nd was his primary position, and had realistically been a utility defender prior to that. Tatis hadn't played pro-ball when he was traded for. Cronenworth was a primary SS in AAA, but like we can allow one or two SS trades because you do need people to play SS Machado was primarily a 3rd baseman his entire time in the bigs Kim is the team's current shortstop. That just leaves Jackson Merrill, a player the Padres drafted out of high school, and didnt play an inning between AA and MLB, of course his development path is weird... Plus he is currently considered a plus defender by ooa

Marlins are Sloth. As a fan, I can give reason: Ownership doesn't want to win, but when they do, they sell off pieces or they don't pay them. Kim Ng took this team to the playoffs, and got booted after we lost to Philly. Marlins home games are never packed; never surpassing 10K unless it's an event like Star Wars night or smt. We have amazing pitchers, but we can't develop hitting which lets better hitters leave for better opportunities (JT Realmuto to Philly, Marcel Ozuna to Atlanta, Christian Yelich to Milwaukee). And I cannot talk about the pain of being a Marlins fan without mentioning about the horrific Loria and Jeter eras of ownership; three different failed rebuilds. Just my opinion, but i would've put Miami in Sloth and soon-to-no-longer-be Oakland in Greed.

I figured greed would be Dodgers, I don't really think the Orioles fit the greed category well but I guess I see the point you made. I really hope they give long term deals to Rutsch and Gunnar and cement this superteam they've built from the ground up. I grew up a Sox fan but as soon as Adley came up and started making such a huge impact on the organization, I was pretty much converted instantly, I love this team especially in 2024. And before you hate me for switching teams, I tend to get more attached to individual players moreso than teams, plus I love me an underdog story

Nothing wrong with following a player. Orioles are super exciting this season though and they are going to be insane when their team hits their prime. Their farming system is top notch and producing insane talent. Hopefully the new ownership will do well for the team.

I'd argue the Rockies deserve Sloth. Not a fan of what the owner of the A's is doing but he is planning something big. The Rockies seem fine being stagnant. Don't get me wrong, I think the Rockies have a more solid team than the A's. But there's a lack of ambition to be competitive. Seemed to have had a sloppy offseason.

Rangers? Do they get a sin? Darwin medal perhaps? Ballpark may be the prime culprit but what about the team themselves? Astros may be more sins than just lust. They probably were a sloth team before the sign stealing happened. As a fan myself their legitimate championship made me super happy that they are much less of a sloth team now.

No Angels fan likes them being called the Los Angeles Angels. It's stupid. As stated, they play in Anaheim and they represent Orange County. I'd argue the Angels represent Pride because their poor performance, poor major contracts, and farm system neglect are the result of their owner's pride. He won't confront his failures publicly and instead of correcting his behavior, he doubles down with more questionable behavior. Moreno is the worst and those that follow the Angels know that the As owner is bad but Moreno is the worst.

Orioles should be dropping that greedy rep here soon. Not only is Rubinstein a true fan of the sport, but Cal Ripken is on the ownership team. Cal wouldn’t let this team continue it’s spree of refusing to pay young talent. Almost no doubt in my mind guys like Gunnar, Adley and Holliday will get paid here in Baltimore. I’d also expect to start seeing some of those prospects coming up as the season goes on. Reckon they are very close to bringing up Heston Kjerstad especially.

The Orioles became a terrible team just after they signed Chris Davis to a disastrous $161 million contract in 2016. They were not afraid to spend money, they just spent it terribly. So they stopped spending for awhile and initiated a rebuild. The A's or Marlins are good examples for "greed" --- the Orioles are not.
@freemarley639

Wrong - That was their excuse but look at how many great players we lost over the years he owned the Orioles since 93.
@ednicholson7839
@ednicholson7839 7 днів тому
@@freemarley639 Who did they “lose” besides Mussina? They traded away Machado because he was never going to be worth what he was going to get paid, and he brought back some young prospects when the Os really needed them, mainly Kremer. They also traded away Arrieta and Gausman, but they were both terrible at the time. And they traded Bundy for Bradish just before Bundy went south. Trading Eduardo Rodriguez and Josh Hader hurt in retrospect but they were just prospects at the time. But every team makes trades to try and get better. The O’s signed a handful of good players too, mainly Miguel Tejada, though certainly not enough. What Angelos really failed at was never signing any top pitching free agents, not investing in Latin American players, and failing to bring back Mike Mussina.
