The Lifestraw peak filter DOES screw on to the outside of the squeeze bottle.
@MyLifeOutdoors
@MyLifeOutdoors 2 роки тому
You are correct. Thanks for this. I had to really try hard to figure it out because at first it doesn’t seem like it will. This still has an issue if you switch back and forth with the dirty side of your filter is now on the clean drinking side. But if you always want to use it as a squeeze this will work. Thanks again

In 1970 age 12 my brother and I carried our 17-pound aluminum tension-frame tent four days over the Presidential range in New Hampshire, off trail for half of it. Seventeen pounds. I was probably less than a hundred pounds. Not sure what my point is. But seventeen is the number I'm fascinated by.

Thanks a lot for such a great review. I watch a lot of outdoor/hiking stuff on UKposts and half the time I switch off. Too long, too many adverts. Your faster pace of talking, and overall short video length made this very easy to watch, and quick to get the important information. Newly subscribed! Whilst a lot of this gear is pricey to get (here in Switzerland) it's good to see what's available and we do get some of these items.

I have the new Nemo tensor as well. I’m a cold sleeper and I have used it in single digit cold and been waaaarm with it. Even got hit with a storm, woke up with snow covering me and the pad and it still held. Plus I’m a side sleeper and that 3” is amazing. So worth it.

I have the last gen Nemo Tensor pad (Wide, long). Best pad I have ever used in my 30+ years of outdoor adventures. The larger size is worth the "extra" weight in my option. Warmth, to weight, to comfort ratios are perfect for me as a 220# plus side sleeper.

I'm also a big advocate of the long/wide sleeping pads. I'm a bit of a high maintenance sleeper have struggled for years with finding a sleep set up that doesn't leave tossing and turning miserably all night. Multiday trips became miserable after a couple nights because I could never sleep properly. I have finally found my set up! It includes a large insulated sleeping pad. I had the best night's sleep I have ever had backpacking, and in the snow to boot. I will gladly carry the extra weight if it means I can reliably get a good night's sleep.
@miclane6490
@miclane6490 Рік тому
Totally agree; I love this pad. I’m a woman who is over 60, 5’8”, 145 lbs. So though I’m not a big person, I have wrestled with having a good night’s sleep on the trail. I decided to buy the regular Tensor, but not by choice ended up with a wide-WOW! As the gentleman on the video said, I’ll never go back to a 20” wide pad. I’m a side sleeper and this pad has become the best thing I carry in my pack. I continue to strive to lighten my pack, but I will never sacrifice my pad.
@janefreeman995
@janefreeman995 Рік тому
Yes the 20 inch wide even for a small person is so uncomfortable. I'm experimenting with the short uberlite. Because I'm traveling I have a few extra clothes that I wouldn't normally carry so I can create wings of cushion for my arms. I also seem to be fighting with my legs being comfortable using a backpack. I really do my best to keep the weight down bc I'm older but the full length and 25 inch width means a better nights sleep. I may try the uber large. I'm in Europe and at the Decathlon stores there is a yoga pad much like the gossamer gear thinlight but a tiny bit thicker that I can use folded for structure for my pack and r value.

I have had a Six Moons Lunar Solo for about 12 ( might be longer ) years and really like it. As a solo tent it offers a lot of interior room at the 32 ounces. The new ones are at 28 ounces. The 90 x 48 and higher entry points are what sold me on it. As a solo tent it has plenty of room for myself and my gear and still in use.

Nice! I have the Geertop Bivy tent. It's a one man low profile tent that's built like a tank and requires no ground cover! And it's camo pattern which is a huge plus! It's more than enough to provide me shelter while I build a proper shelter. I'm a survivalist, not a trail walker by the way. So I realize my needs are different than most watching this video.

Really enjoy your videos and all the information and reviews provided. With regards to your take on the new lifestraw peak, I felt I should share my experience. I have been using a lifestraw filter bottle for years with great success and love having the freedom to fill my bottle and drink immediately. I recently purchased the lifestraw peak collapsible bottle/water filter and am able to completely empty the squeeze bottle simply by removing the rubber mouth piece and attaching the filter to the exterior nozzle replacing the rubber tip to the end of the filter and use this water for cooking. Thanks for all your helpful information.

I appreciate this. Until now I didn’t realize you could remove the rubber nozzle. That’s why it’s always a good idea to check the comments. Just because I’m making videos doesn’t mean I catch everything with every piece of gear. So thanks. I’m still a bit concerned about clean and dirty sides mixing on my filter set up. But if you keep it dedicated in one set up. This will work well. So thanks again

I have the 20” Tensor pad and it is wonderful AND quiet but have switched to wider pads for side sleeping comfort. Best new gear in the last few years for me is switching to a tarp. Have a 8.5 x 8.5 square from Yama Mountain gear and 9.5 x 9.5 square from Hammock Gear and both under 14 oz. w/o stakes. Using this weekend in NY w/o bug net. It’s fun looking up all the different set ups and trying them out. Have a 6 oz. Bug bevy to clip in when needed for warmer east coast forest bugs. Was a little nervous to try but loved it! Being a female camper I am setting up with more enclosed configurations for privacy. Keep switching things up and dropping weight.

My 70 to 80 liter (Adjustable) heavy loadout backpack was way more affordable than most smaller capacity backpacks. And it's not a bright flashy color like most of the other ultra light packs. I have it loaded to the brim but my two largest kits (Which I am very proud of) are my "Kitchen in a pot" and my "Bathroom in a bag". Even my tool kit has the starting tools to make a full blown forge in a survival situation. I do have other loadouts that I'm working on though. Haven't started on the scout, but my canteen strap loadout is going very well! I love making kits and loadouts!!! The heavy loadout is the most complicated as it's intended use is for long term to permanent bugging out!

Do you like the Zpacks Plex over the Tarptent Notch Li? The Notch is heavier (about 22oz with stakes), but it has 2 doors which I really like. In terms of what gear I'm excited about this year, it's my new pack! I just got a Waymark Lite 50, which is a framed, but lightweight pack (mine is a Small and weighs 37oz on my scale) that promises to carry loads up to 35lbs (but I will never get to that weight). So far it seems extremely comfortable and it's a full 1.2lb lighter than my Osprey Ariel Pro 65 with no brain nor straps!.

I've got the msr elixir 2 which seemingly has the same opening, and rectangular shape but is a bit heavier, and I havent experience water in my tent like that and we have been in some big down pours. Though the height of this appears shorter which would change the slope of the roof and that may be the issue? I'm about to try the hubba hubba 2 this summer as we're taking my friends tent instead of mine so I'm curious how it will do comparatively. I've been super happy with the exlixr 2 and have never had a wet morning while others in my group for sure have. I've had mine now about 5 years with frequent 3 season, so spring to late fall, use. The extra weight isn't an issue as we each carry half the tent. We share the tent burden.

I like the lifestraw peak system. I use it mostly as a gravity filter into another bag, but the common thread is a plus and since the filter is enclosed, you can use it as a straw by itself.
@noodlesthe1st
@noodlesthe1st Рік тому
I think the point isn't that it's a bad filter but rather that there is better on the market. The platypus he recommends also has a common thread and can be used as a straw by itself (the be free filter can also be drunken from directly). But the platypus can also be backflushed and integrity checked in the field as well as having caps to close so you can store it (even in your sleeping bag to prevent freezing at night) without getting things wet. In the end if it suits your needs it really doesn't matter what anyone else says. The life straw seems to be a hybrid between in bottle and outside bottle filters and isn't better than other filters at doing either of those. But it can do both.

Sure would be nice if a high three digit shelter made of a purportedly indestructible fabric was a little more robust. He was so bummed. They really should consider an alternate or bolstered fabric for their bathtub floors. I also have to say that the stitching and trim work on the mesh where it meets the body and the floor was extremely sloppy. Unimpressed.

I've taken my older Tensor (3.5R value) down to the low 40s/upper 30s and have not been cold in it. I don't think they needed to upgrade that model as they have the Alpine already. The hype surrounding Alpha fleece is warranted, for example I can now pack my Wren (3.3oz) + Houdini (3.2oz) and it's only 1oz heavier than just my Kuiu Peleton fleece 🤯. And the Nitcore NB10000 seems to be the perfect charging solution for shorter trips, coming in at only 5.29oz for 10,000 mAh. I think both of these pieces of gear showcase serious innovation in their category.

@WasatchWill
@WasatchWill 2 роки тому
4.2 is a great improvement for the Tensor but even it's old 3.5 rating is plenty warm for 3 season use or down to about 30 degrees or so. For winter, I always add something like a zlite anyway, so really no need to give up a perfectly good 3.5 pad for the 4.2 pad. The real improvement would be if the new pad proves to be any more durable than the 3.5 pad that's got a reputation for being very fragile and a tendency to develop phantom leaks.

Is the solo plex big enough to have my backpack and gear in with me on a thru hike or should I get the altaplex? Thank you.
@MyLifeOutdoors
@MyLifeOutdoors 2 роки тому
Depends on your size. I’m 5’7” 180lbs I feel like I have enough room for me plus gear in the plex but your gear will be up against the wall of the tent which could get wet due to condensation. But I slept with all my gear in the vestibule no problem a few weeks ago in Utah.
@tylerrowe2798
@tylerrowe2798 Рік тому
Unless you are tiny, you wont be able to fit your gear in an altaplex either, although the vestibule will work just fine. My dad is 5’9” and it was a no go

I think the lifestraw filter is designed that way so it’s still a straw - in a pinch you can put the tip of it in water without a bag…..
@Liam__G
@Liam__G 2 роки тому
we have another older version of the lifestraw filter bag( though it looks the same) . the bag has a nasty plastic taste, negating the benefits of charcoal filtration. we bought it to combat sulfur taste from some pumps.

What do you consider ultralight for a stove? I have the original pocket rocket: it’s under 4 oz. I use it in my ultralight load-outs. I could save 2-3oz with the BRS, but most of the time it’s not worth it to me.
