*This video was completed before I heard the rumours about the 5500X3D and 5700X3D, hence why I didn't address them in the video. Three points: a) they are as-yet unknown in terms of price and performance, b) they may never make it to international markets, and c) they may not be out in 2023, so I’m sticking with this title until proven otherwise!
Although 6-cores typically occupy the best price to performance bracket for gaming CPUs these days, that doesn’t mean that 8-cores have nothing to bring to the table. A sufficiently inexpensive modern eight core could even qualify as good value, especially for pairing with a high end previous-gen GPU like an RTX 3080 Ti or RX 6950 XT. The Ryzen 7 5700X occupies a sweet spot of performance and price that makes it hard to beat in 2023 - that is, if it can hold up against cheaper 6-cores.

ERRATA 1:37 One day, all UKpostsrs will learn not to quote prices that don’t match what’s shown on screen. But it is not this day! 5:01 I meant to say “127 FPS”, obviously 9:20 I wrote “around 500 FPS” in the script, but “above 500 FPS” came out of my mouth. Oops. 12:35 Yes, that was an opportune moment to drop a So Solid Crew reference, and I missed it. Sorry, I dropped the ball on this one. NOTES This was all written before I learned about the 5700X3D. Right now I consider that chip to still be a rumour, and - if it is a repeat of the 5600X3D situation - then I will continue to ignore it after release. While I understand AMD needs to shift old silicon, products that are only available in one store in one country might as well not exist at all. All that being said, if it does get a global release, I look forward to reviewing it!

1:13 the 5700X actually has the B2 stepping that is better binned than the earlier Zen 3 CPUs. It's how it manages to be so great despite its low 65W TDP. I got mine in September this year for the equivalent of 150GBP. I used PBO to get 5800X performance while avoiding the 5800X's heat issues.

@@TimberWulfIsHere Not without sacrificing heat and noise. I don't care for getting 100% performance with 100% power when I can get 95% performance with 70% of the power. I like having a quiet PC so I aim to find the efficiency sweet spot when overclocking/undervolting. I used to go all out overclocking and I realized that strategy only gives me very little more performance for much more heat and noise.

Been running one for a few months with a 5700XT, and it's an excellent 1080p budget combo for about £300. AM5, DDR5 and all that is great, but latter-end AM4/DDR4 is just too acceptable to justify the immediate jump for me. Before this I had a 1700X, and it lasted me just over six years before I really felt the need to jump ship. (though keeping in mind, I mostly play fighting games and more e-sports-y FPS). I reckon this generation of Ryzen will probably end up the CPU form of what Pascal was for so long, just sitting at the top of Steam component charts for the next half a decade because it's very affordable and "good enough" for the vast majority of people.

My last rig was a 5700X and a 3070. Ran lots of games really well at 1440p. I don't remember any particular issue that I had with it. VRAM was probably my biggest issue. I run a 5800X3D and 6800XT now and it's monstrous at 1440p. Anyone looking at getting the 5700X CPU as an upgrade will be very satisfied imo. I didn't overclock it, but it self turbos to about 4.4 GHz (according to Armory Crate and NZXT Cam at least).

@resorufin6164

@@MrBones105 I think it will last quite a while, especially with how expensive a lot of components are becoming now. I can run Baldur's Gate 3 at a steady 120 fps (custom frame rate cap) without any FSR options enabled and just about everything set to High or Ultra. Single-Player Tarkov runs very well for me even with a bunch of mods installed, and the Modern Warfare 1 & 2 reboots run near flawlessly. Most of my other games are indie games or somewhat unoptimized JRPGs, but those run beautifully after a few graphical tweaks. Disabling VSync actually helped me with frame stutters, and I barely notice any screen tearing if it's there. Don't doubt the combo, friend. This CPU and GPU are incredible and will make it through at least two more generations imo.

I recently picked this up for $170 on sale. Moving from a 3600, I still got decent performance uplift, I was surprised how cool this thing runs. I use the Noctua NH-12 Redux cooler and I usually see temps around 45C or lower in most gaming workloads.

Is it very worth it? I also have a 3600, but I only bought it a few months ago because it was very cheap. The CPU does a good job and is light years faster than my old FX 8350. But now think that maybe should have gone for the Ryzen 5700X straight away. Now I'm thinking about maybe selling my 3600 and getting a Ryzen 5700X. But then again, the 5700X isn't that much faster than the 3600 when look at benchmarks. Only play at 60HZ anyway.

Something I'd like to point out. Yer missing out on some additional performance (and temp headroom). Proper BIOS setup is key (instead of using crummy software). You'll want to go in and set up an undervolt via curve optimizer (I have mine running -20 on all cores). Also, you want to push the PBO2 max boost to as high as it'll go (should be +200 MHz). With this setup, my 5700X hits 4.85 GHz vs. yer 4.75GHz and averages 80C in a Cinebench R23 (15,600 multi and 1,570 single) 10 min loop on a 240mm AIO.

You might want to look for a used X670 motherboard. Due to it coming out sooner and being enthusiast class it was purchased by early adopters and is subject to a lot of churn as they move to the new shiny thing. So a used one is usually cheaper than a new B650, while offering better features and quality. I had good results buying 2 ASUS Prime Z690 boards, one for 120 early on, and one for 66 more recently. Its a risk, but then you aren't eating the delreciation yourself.

something I've noticed with higher thread count cpus (16+) is that in games that dont use alot of cores, the cpu will frequently switch cores and cause frame drops. Particularly if the core it switched to was idle beforehand.

See, I really wanted the 5700X when it dropped alongside the 5600. However, I couldn’t really justify it due to the $229 cost (at the time) vs $139 for the 5600, so that’s what I went with. Said it a ton but it’s been great, holds 4.8Ghz easily and temps are hardly a concern even with just a Wraith Prism cooling it. At its current price though, it’d be hard to recommend the 5600/5600X when they perform the same in any game that doesn’t scale with 8+ cores but the ones that do would see the benefit of the extra cores/threads for barely $20-30 extra at this point

10:15 The newer call of duty games are notorious for not utilizing the proper amount of threads that a cpu has. I have a i5 11th gen chip and it defaults in the config to only use 4 cores. Not sure if this is at all related to your issues, but it is worth checking out. What I have resorted to is go in game set all the settings to my liking, then close the game to desktop. open the config file and set the correct amount of core usage, then set the config file to read only. For me it says //Thread count for handling the job queue worker_threads = "4" // 2 to 4 And I change it to //Thread count for handling the job queue worker_threads = "6" // 2 to 6 I did some experimenting with putting my actual threads vs physical cores..seemed to work better just using the core count for me. If might also differ between intel and amd cpu as I have heard. Sorry for such long message but this is pretty infuriating that call of duty can't even utilize CPU properly.. its absurd.

Yes! At my place, we have zen 4 7500f per smth like 130-140$. This cpu is definitely better than 5700x, the equal multi core performance and, accordingly, much more singlecore performance. 7500f can work absolutely fine on any motherboard, even cheap a620 per 80$. The only difference is price of ddr5, anyway, for really good performance you need 6000 cl30 memory, but, anyway, this is just maybe 40$ more than good ddr4 kit. I do recommend not running an overclock or curve optimizer. Although results may vary, I found there were always some anomalies where the performance was reduced or would have behavior issues. I decided to run my 5700x with the auto pbo and nothing else, and it does hit 4.8ghz single core while gaming with air cooling. The 1% and 0.1% low performance in this video has me suspicious that the chip was not running as well as it might have on default. Even though Ryzen Master software is AMD's first party software, i found whenever I ran the curve optimizer that i would have issues with stuttering and crashing eventually. I am using a gigabyte B550, so the default motherboard settings can matter as well I suppose. Great video my man! Also really enjoyed the Radeon VII video, keep 'em coming! :)

a 5700x can't do too much. but a mild -curve optimizer is almost never bad. Won't make it any faster. And almost certainly don't be surprised if you can't go past -10 on these. But anything is a gain there. Use BIOS for this rather than ryzen master, and forget that ryzen master auto OC + CO feature, just curve optimize it. You should spend time on memory clocks if you want it to be any faster (also probably not worth)
