Hey Chris, honest question. Which one is better?. Your previous recommendation of the WLED with the sound reactive built-in or this WLED controller?. To me, the difference is if you want sound reactive vs non-sound reactive WLED. Second question, can you use these Cob LEDs with the previous WLED with the sound reactive controller on your previous video?. And lastly, which combination will be the best in colors, controls and budget?. FYI, I want to upgrade my entire living room LEDs and control with WLED. I require at least 90 ft. Thank you for your advice. Big fan!.
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 3 місяці тому
Both are great! I would go with the domestic automation one for 5v led strips and this one for 12 or 24 volt strips. This controller also has a built in mic for sound reactive animations so you still would have that as an option. I have yet to try using the 12v cob lights with the domestic automation controller but it is something I want to try seeing if there is an easy workaround! The unfortunate thing about led strips is that there is not a perfect solution so it really comes down to what your main goal is. Colors will all be about the same but pixel density varies. Then it also depends on if you are using a diffuser channel or not an if you want to have a good looking white. Its fun trying different lights out but I think my overall favorite is still the sk6812 strips with 60leds per meter with the neutral white diod. I love having the dedicated white! Hope that helps and thanks for the support!

What about COB Neopixel with 332 per meter?
@yusuf6778
@yusuf6778 3 місяці тому
@@ChrisMaherDIYthanks for the feedback bro. The SK6812 looks nice with your demonstration. However, I believe you can see the gaps even when you use a diffuser because of 60 LEDs per meter. I like Cob LEDs smoothness, the density is really nice. I don't think I can achieve the same smoothness with the sk6812 even if I use a diffuser?. Also, the SK6812 is 5 volt. Which means I have to do at least three power injections with my 90ft project. Oh yeah I also watch your other video and this WLED indeed has a microphone just like the other one, but this controller is better put together vs the other one which is exposed. Also I like this one because it has 24 volt power which means you can power long LEDs strip better than the 12v or the 5v. The only question I have is which one gives better individual colors and saturation, The Cob or Sk6812. Thanks.

I have used these strip lights in all my projects. I was thinking of trying this as well. I could not afford to buy them and test them myself so ty. I used 2 1 meter strips in the spotless corner diffuser. Those cost more. To make sure it worked out. It does they are a little wide for 2 strips but work well and very bright. I was just sure to line the segments up well so it looks like 1. The ones you testested here will save alot of my cost when using them over spotless. Ty again.

Nice, thank you. I actually used black aluminum corner profiles (with black diffusers) and a COB RGBA strip and put that all around the edges of my gaming table. When off they're stealthy, just blending in with the table itself. And when turned on it's like the entire edge glows. Those COB strips are trivial to diffuse, since they almost don't need them (especially on a higher brightness level/also consider there are different levels of density on those COB strips as well).

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! That sounds like a great setup! What black channel did you use? The only ones I found I was able to see through the black diffuser pretty easily. You were using a 12V LED strip which means that one IC controls 36 LEDs. That's why one segment of several centimeters always have the same color. If you use a 5V LED Strip instead, one IC only controls 2 (!) LEDs. This would give you even a better result. However, depending on the length of the strip, the current could become a problem...
@ryans2021
@ryans2021 3 місяці тому
Heya Chris, question for ya: The width of the LED COB strips per BTFs specs are 12m, but the Muzata channel width for the Corner (V shaped) channel diffusers are spec'd at 10mm. Your video shows how well they work regardless, but did you have any trouble installing the COB strips in the V channel diffuser frame?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 3 місяці тому
Thanks for watching and great question! You are absolutely correct. The strip is slightly bigger than the flat part of the diffuser that the strip goes to but they stick just fine and doesn't effect the performance at all.
@NickeyMouse
@NickeyMouse 3 місяці тому
I know you didn't mention it, but how much do the diffusers affect perceived brightness? I ask because I'm planning a 12M+3M*4 (12M is perimeter, 3M*4 is corners) and right now my total cost using the 96LED/M Muzata strip you showed is just around $300 depending on the prices of the day. Since I'm planning on running the perimeter strips where the wall meets (10ft) I've been debating buying COB no diffusion since the strip will be hard to see that high to save money and gain brightness. But, since you have everything in hand: If all the strips will be white most of the time to be used as main lighting (yes I want it dim) and effects will be used some of the time do feel that the Muzata is the best bang for the buck or do you have a different recommendation for that? Also big thanks for all the videos you do with this stuff. I was able to use your Govee perm light guide to install mine this year without any issues, and I'll be getting into WLED using the same lessons with this project!
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 3 місяці тому
Thanks so much for watching and great questions! The muzata strips are a great bang for your buck. But if your main goal is to have them be white and your main lighting source, I would probably look at a strip that has a dedicated white led built in like the sk6812 leds. Or maybe at the very least order 1 of the muzata ones to see what you think of the white color. I also believe there is a cob strip out there now that does have a dedicated white light that Ill have to see if I can find. So many options to consider! I know its overwhelming at times.

Would you consider using the 6mm diffusers in under kitchen cabinet lighting?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 3 місяці тому
I would probably go with the 4.8mm one for under the cabinet and if the light is somewhat hidden, I wouldn't even put on the diffuser covers. At least for me, if its in the kitchen, I'm wanting things to get as bright as possible. But if your just wanting some nice soft light but don't need it as bright as it can possibly go, then I would still go with the 4.8mm kit. That's actually what I used in my undercabinet kitchen video I did a while back and its still working great today!

I need a corner diffuser that is less than 16mm on the sides, ideally around 12. I have yet to find one, have you ever seen one that shallow?

Thanks for watching and that's a great question. I have not seen anything that small for a corner profile. If I ever come across one though I'll let you know!

@@ChrisMaherDIY That would be great. I have Detolf display cases from Ikea that I would like to light along the side edges instead of the typical per shelf. The space is limited though. Love your videos and they've taught me a lot. Keep it up!

why does some audio come in so loud on some videos more so the others when the volume on user end remains the same? It doesn't make any sense to me on just how loud some can blast the speakers even while at a low volume.

Nice comparison. Just out of curiousity (re. your sponsor) ... do we really think that the "marketing companies" who are breaching people's privacy, have stolen personal details and are sharing / selling this information are really likely to pay attention to a request from Aura to delete data from their records? It's a bit like when you receive spam email: DO NOT REPLY TO IT OR UNSUBSCRIBE (unless it's from a well-known provider) as all you're doing is confirming that your email address exists ... which means that email address gets added / sold for another spam initiative. Technically, YES, Aura does what it promises to ... but their approach is not actually a good strategy.

Why do those LED strips have to be lit in groups and not each single LED?
@velvetjones8634

These are COB lights and COB lights aren’t individually addressable (individually controllable).
@lancerobbins24
@lancerobbins24 3 місяці тому
These COB strips go about things differently than the typical 5/12v do. Quindor has a great in depth breakdown video on these “addressable neon” strips (quick search here on YT). Each cut point is just about an inch apart and there are 100 per 5m strip. They are great in long runs being 12 or 24 volt. I lined my roofline this year with these in the corner channel Chris showed in this video. I waterproofed them with caulk and packaging tape (these are not outdoor IP65+ rated). Worked out well and all the neighbors have commented about my permanent LED lights.

Unfortunately most 12 and 24v strips are not individually addressable. I'm sure there is a good reason but I couldn't tell you why. I'm not the smartest guy in the world. But I would check out Quindor's channel. He is incredibly smart and i'm sure would know!

I understand what he's saying but also if I'm watching this video and I want EXACTLY what Chris is making, I literally want the names of everything he used in the video and the exact website/place he ordered it from. If he didn't mention specific names all the time, how will I know which ones to buy? With thousands and thousands of different diffusers and LED strips, not mentioning a specific product a bunch of times in their videos would produce a lot less of a following.
@jamesr124
@jamesr124 3 місяці тому
Wouldn't you rather see the product and reviewed before buying to do the project? He does both types of videos. I feel you need this type of video to do the diy video and make it look good. I've wasted too much money on junk to try it out and see if it would work but now I see what he uses and just buy that lol.
