This is probably the most amazing tent I have ever used, the features are virtually endless, it is one of the toughest built and most feature dense synthetic I've seen. You do however pay for it in weight and of course pocketbook. I have reviewed other lightweight tents which would probably be more ideal for a bug out scenario where weight is a problem, but nothing beats the speed of set-up, features and durability of the Russian Bear tent.

Use steel wool to the open space around stove pipe, but not store but for dishes unless well used and all lubricant is washed off. You can also use fireproof drywall and cut a small circle and drill hole the size of last stove pipe piece and slide it up over steel wool once in place Happy Holidays Lily if you’re watching God Bless and Much Love

Or not, I mean what is the point unless it's raining. That's gonna be great ventilation which is needed along with the bottom vent which would pull cool air when opened but even closed the hot air rises and no cool air is coming in tha little hole beside the stove jack and that little flow will prevent that monoxide poisoning he mentioned. Go plugging it and you are guaranteed to have monoxide in your breathing air because some is gonna escape the oven and be stuck in the tent for you to breath

Or forge insulation blanket material. Pretty cheap, any blacksmith supply would have it. Fluffs up and is light. Easily stored in the camp stove bag

You get a welders blanked cut it. Put a hoop inside it ( or the wife who can actually sew would do this ) and then you have a priest collar with a material blanket going out. If you want you can put Velcro pads to the tent and the blanket. Total security. Although I’m not sure what kind of weather you’d need to get the befit 🤣 🥶

Your well stocked house will eventually run out of supplies no matter how well stocked it is.. and if shyt does hit the fan, something like this, but lighter is a must for when you need to go out and find what you need to bring back to your empty housethat was once full becuase you burned thru alll your supplies... When s.h.t.f. your quad is gping to bring alot of attn, and your fuel supply also wont last forever, this would still be great, but something lighter would be of equal or evwn greater value in the MUST have department.

Your right, these are not backpacking tents but are the best base camp, hunting, ice fishing rigs you could ask for! I have the Sputnik 3 which is the model just below the one you have. And the quality and workmanship is excellent. I also have the insulated floor and their small wood stove. I have dealt with Canadian, US and Russian distributers and you cannot get better more friendly service anywhere that will top them. I was missing a small minor part and it came in a day from Russia. If the reflectors on the guy line tabs are a problem the you can easily cover them with some camo duct tape. To protect the floor I recommend using a trap under the tent. If your stovepipe is too small for the jack I used a silicon baking sheet with a hole just smaller than the pipe on the outside stops air and rain leaks. Their stove is a bit different from the norm but out performs them all. Every tent that I have used over fifty years all had small things that I adjusted to customize to my liking and needs.This tent is the same.

I had a canvas tent back in the 70's that used this technology for set up. I think it was called a pop-up tent. It blew away in a storm once and ended up in a inlet to the Missouri river and was sitting at the bottom. I thought someone had stolen the tent until the water went down the top of the tent was sticking out of the water. Tent was perfectly fine, still standing in the water..just needed a good rinse. I did some research and the one I had years ago was a Thermos pop up tent... There is a video on you tube of red one(mine was green) that shows the mechanism. I don't think the guy was doing something right as he said it was hard to set up. I was a 15 year old girl setting it up on my own with not allot of problems

I use a toboggan and hike my tent in. Sometimes we do multiple day trips and can get pretty far into the bush. The bag is nice I realize why they leave a lot of extra space in the bag is because when you put away the tent sometimes there is ice or snow frozen to it and it is too difficult to remove all of it, so they left extra space for the lil bit of snow you take with you :)

About the gap in the roof -- get a silicone baking sheet, cut a hole the exact diameter of your stove pipe, slide it on during construction. They are usually wide enough to cover the gap easily. Only problem might be they flap around in a windy condition, but after that they will lay flat.

If you want a more stiff fabric to put over it, take some fiberglass cloth and treat with waterglass--while it is still wet, cut out the sized hole. Once it is fully dry (you can put in the oven to speed that up) put a coat of silicone on the top/outside because waterglass is not waterproof. This will be much stiffer than the baking sheet and the non silicone part is far more heat resistant.

I got a very poor response when I reported the problem, they talked about "fading". The tents hadn't been in the sun, only in shaded areas, and mainly in the rain. Definitely not sun faded. Wasted a lot of money for tents that were no longer fit for purpose within a couple of weeks.

Great content on this tent and I dig your channel. Looks like a great 4 season tent with the ability to add a wood stove for cooking and as a heat source. For me the weight and overall packed size is important as I usually camp from my Jeep 2 door TJ and room is precious. Wish you a Merry Christmas.

The hole between the stove Jack and the chimney pipe seems like it would be good for ventilating moisture, c Because condensation will rise up with the heat like that, and it just ensures that the inside of that part won't get too hot, on the tent. Now you have holes in the bottom and then one small gap of top you should get air flow now as well, much better airflow Because it will draw through that top hole pulling out condensation pulling fresh air in gently do the lower vent holes that are built into the tent

If you can Id recommend their stoves also, extremely effective, cuts my wood consumption over my winnerwell and dog stoves in half. For the stove pipe hole they should provide a waterproof "rap-around" to wrap around the pipe to actually COVER that pipe hole on the outside of the tent. Maybe have it "velcroed" at the top and sides so it provides that water proofing. Also, the "hole" of this covering flap is metal, which is open ended so it can fit different sizes of pipe etc.
@ba2724
@ba2724 Рік тому
Yeah, if I were to buy this, I'd just go to a hardware store (or look around the house) to get a small sheet of aluminum, cut a circle to it to fit over the stove pipe while covering the tent gap in case of rain. I'm glad they chose to go bigger on the hole instead of smaller and possibly eliminate many more stove pipe sizes.

These tent are designed for the harsh winter climate in Siberia to withstand -50c to -60c temperatures. I don't think the Snowtrekker could withstand the friggit temperatures. I own this tent,and been in -40c + -60c with the windchill temperature in Northern Canada,it was +75F to 80F in the tent. This tent is also designed for a Sauna. I also have the added vestibule 6'x9' that zips up to the tent,has the inner liner with stove Jack... you can put your ATV or Skidoo inside the vestibule for protection. In my own opinion, it's way better than the Snowtrekker with all the UP2 features, designs and durability it has.

@@iceman256 If one is looking for the "ultimate" then get a boatload of Challenge ULTRA 100 material (woven super high strength UHMWPE with a bonded, waterpoof backing) and make a tent out of that. You can make bear bags (Ursack style) out of the higher denier versions like the 400 and 800. While bears could rip through the 100 version, it would take some time (course, all the stakes etc would be pulled out and it would be a moot by this point). Point being though, insanely strong, tough, and durable stuff.

I bought 11 at auction for about $1200 shipping included. I also have a huge 18 x 36 for a base camp GP type. @Rikske77
@Rikske77 2 роки тому
The small ventilation window next to the stove may help prevent condensation, but my guess is that they put it exactly next to the stove to prevent CO² build up. If CO² starts to build up while you're sleeping, there's a high chance of never waking up, it really is a silent killer. And since CO² is a "heavy" gas (heavier as O²) it will build up from the floor (making it that more dangerous for when you are sleeping). So a ventilation window placed low (and next to the stove) makes excellent sense to provide an escape for that CO², to sorta let it flow out. Over here (in Belgium), people who heat their houses with open flame heating sources (like stoves) are required by law to have a 12 (or 15 cm 🤔) wide hole, about 20 to 30 cm above the floor within 3 meters from the open flame heat source, exactly to prevent CO² build up. Anyway, great review of an evenly great tent 👍. Greetings from Belgium 🍻.

I see from some other comments that canvas is preferred by many. I’ve had many canvas outfitters tents. No condensation issues, but with a floor and poles = heavy. I prefer denier material for its lighter weight but believe me, condensation is a problem.

I'm in the UK, and as well as the cost of the tents and shipping, I got stung for £295 per tent at customs. I bought three...! Also, I have to say that they are not worth the money if the camouflage colouring is important to you. After a little over a week in a shaded area, with a lot of rain, the colours had completely changed to a really horrible bright pink and orange camo pattern. Completely the opposite of what I had wanted, and now the one that is still semi permanently erected sticks out like the proverbial "sore thumb". No hiding it, even with camo netting. On the plus side though, they have stood up fantastically well in all the rain, winds, and exceptional storms we've had recently.

Looking at that gap around the stove's vent pipe. A small skirt or collar would do the trick. Silicone with velcro sealing/attaching, it would go around the pipe like the skirt you wrap around the base of a X-Mass tree and seal to the rim of the tent's opening. Just big enough to close that heat releasing gap. Maybe 2oz. in weight.
