If you read the official history of the formation and construction of Venice, then many questions arise.
For example, how have historians been able to establish the date of the founding of Venice so accurately - March 25, 421?
There is no exact information about the events of a hundred years ago. Either one interpretation of events pops up, then another. And that's where the accuracy is.
Historians write that the inhabitants of the coastal regions, fleeing from the invasion of the Goths, settled on the deserted islands of the swampy coast.
Well, they ran to these deserted islands in the swamp, but what next? Everything needed for construction is on the mainland.
Are you ready to ask not to touch them while they are dragging wood to the buildings?
The first settlers were mainly fishermen and hunters, who, in principle, could always feed themselves. But they had to build from what is simpler. Branches, poles and so on.
Everything changed in 568, when the Lombards invaded Italy, in Russian - long beards. Here already, the more noble inhabitants had to move to the fishermen and hunters. Apparently, they somehow still could agree with the Goths, but there was no way to smoke with the long-bearded. Peter 1 is not enough for these bad people.
It is written in Wikipedia that the newcomers to residence are not used to living in small wooden buildings on the water. Give them comfort and all sorts of excesses.
Therefore, the wise Venetians, having decided to live in safety, because it would never occur to a Goth or a long-bearded man to sail 3.5 kilometers through the water in a boat in order to capture the very rich and noble inhabitants of Italy, they began to build solid buildings and palaces right on the water.
And so that the buildings would not fall into the silt to the very clay, they began to drive in many, many piles of larch. Approximately like this.
Have you seen how piles are being driven now?
What these images have in common is only the number of participants.
Do you believe that an 8-meter larch can be hammered together to such a depth without the help of equipment?
It is clear that the silt is not very dense, but the idea is for the pile to go as deep as possible and rest, but it is better to enter a solid layer of soil. Then its vertical stability will be ensured.
By the way, a million larches were used for the construction of the cathedral, and 100,000 of them were hammered as piles.
And how did the huge mass of St. Mark's Cathedral not crush all one hundred thousand larches into a layer of clay that is under the silt? After all, there is no solid layer of soil, as it is written in the official literature.
And that's just for the cathedral.
How many trunks of larch were delivered to Venice for all buildings?
There are two versions that explain where these trunks were brought from. According to the first one, these are the Alps, that is, 700 kilometers, and according to the second, larch was brought from Perm - 4,000 kilometers.
700, of course, is less than 4000, but that doesn't make it any easier.
Have you ever seen a timber truck loaded with 20-30 trunks of freshly cut wood? From its pressure on the ground, the rumble diverges.
And what kind of equipment is this timber carrier being dragged?
Now let's imagine harvesting, and then delivering such a quantity of round timber, over such a distance, in the absence of suitable roads and special equipment.
It’s easier for historians, he cut down a larch, at any time of the year, loaded it on a horse and drove it.
How long can the cart support the trunks and not fall apart?
It's better not to think about the poor horse.
Probably, along the entire length of the road from Perm to Venice, everything is strewn with horse bones.
Do you think that's it?
Yes, as historians say, larch went to the piles, mainly from Perm, because of its better quality, but the buildings themselves were built from Istrian stone, which was mined on the Istrian peninsula (Croatia), since it was best succumbed to - work and was more resistant to atmospheric phenomena.
This is another 250 kilometers by land or about 110 by water.
Yes, the Venetians were not looking for easy ways.
It is believed that larch trunks, immersed in silt, petrified without oxygen. This explains the durability and strength of such a foundation.
Those larches that were unlucky now look like this.
Let's sum up the first results.
A group of people in self-isolation on small islands in a marshy lagoon managed to organize the delivery of a huge amount of round timber from territories that are very far away from them. At the same time, they somehow persuaded the inhabitants of these territories to live for some time without a forest.
Delivery of such volumes of wood was carried out by unknown means, at least there is no description of this process.
Who was involved in the harvesting and loading of timber, and most importantly, who paid for all this, is unknown.
