My question is what was the temperature inside the cockpit? Only because you have NASCAR drivers Racing for 2 or 3 hours in a 130-140°F (57-61°C) cockpit. I know Jenson Button ran the COTA NASCAR race and he said he's never been in a car that hot and actually stopped I think for around 2-3 minutes for ice and water and he never even threw in the towel! Even though he was suffering from heat exhaustion. To be fair I think it's been like three or four years since he's raced. That was his first race back is pretty tough.

Doesn't IndyCar have cooled helmets or something? Considering global warming isn't going to stop anytime soon the FIA should really start considering mandatory cooled suits/ helmets in open wheelers and mandatory air conditioning in tin tops. This is going to happen more often in the future, and not just in a desert country like Qatar. It's entirely possible that someday soon there's going to be a European GP in June, July or August where there'll be ambient temperatures of almost 40 degrees celsius.
@jackmorris6776
@jackmorris6776 6 місяців тому
Because that will help the global warming issue 🙄 let's just stop racing in summer in some of the hottest, driest locations on earth. Maybe we can goto more tracks where the populace actually like racing and not just where the autocratic leader has cash.
@Weerknuffelbeer
@Weerknuffelbeer 6 місяців тому
@@jackmorris6776 As if a few thousand cooled racing suits/ cars are going to have a significant climate impact besides the tens or even hundreds of millions airconditioned vehicles already out there. Also, have you missed how European summers were for like, the past two decades? As I mentioned, it's entirely possible that next year a European GP held in summer will feature similar conditions as last weekends' Qatar GP. It'll be far more beneficial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions if the F1 season is brought back to around 15 GPs per season like it used to be so the whole circus will have to be transported to a different track 8-10 times less every year. Not to mention all the fans that won't take their car or a flight to the venue. Lastly, this'll also ensure that F1 teams will have a somewhat normalized work schedule again.
@hello_alpine1693
@hello_alpine1693 6 місяців тому
That would be an interesting idea but IndyCar has those cause the cars have windshields that prevent any air from cooling the driver even in good climate conditions
@missionsanhaenger
@missionsanhaenger 6 місяців тому
@@WeerknuffelbeerI see your point but maybe it's just stupid as hell to have high level sporting events in the middle of the desert in the first place. Fuck all that oil money. It's just horrible for the climate anyways to see what they do in those states so maybe not support it by taking their money and helping them make themselves look like anything but the psycho autocrats they are. Also the climate will never be as bad in Europe as it is in the desert because Europe has humidity. Even if it hits 40° in central Europe it's still not as crazy as 45° in the desert. Just boycott those states. They exist because of hyper capitalism and literal modern day slave labor. Who do you think built those circuits and the infrastructure in the desert heat. It's bad for the drivers but think about the hundreds of workers who are basically held hostage there and forced to work and how many probably died building that track. Let those psycho autocrats stew in their own desert heat and not cater to them because their so rich. Integrity over greed. Sporting associations should learn from the FIFA debacle. Not repeat it

Yes it can be too hot to drive. But teams need to better manage cockpit temperatures, and the FIA needs to regulate the location of electronics in and around the cockpit. Drivers from many team shave complained about ‘hot seats’ once the cars went hybrid, this is a great opportunity for the teams and FIA to fix it for the next Gen cars in 2025.
