@rockit3422 what a ridiculous uninformed comment. The crow is a wild bird, only a terrible person would trap her inside a house when she's obviously healthy and uninjured. She doesn't require anything nature doesn't provide. Dogs and cats are domestic animals that can't survive well on their own in the wild, Crows can. Wild animals should never be removed from their natural habitat unless they absolutely need a humans care for injury or illness and they can't survive otherwise. Even then, they should be released as soon as they are well. Very few situations require a wild creature to remain permanently under the care of a human. Healthy wild birds do not belong in houses. They need to fly free and live amongst their own species in their natural habitat to remain truly happy and healthy.

What you are forgetting is that a dog and a cat are domesticated pets. A free-living crow has a boundless freedom that no domestic animal can have. And it has its flock of conspecifics. Kaley has given Darling this freedom and has not interfered with nature. You have to choose sides...
@vivalapita8484

I think that was right. There was something off about Darling, baby minded, never grew up. Was never observant enough for the flock. She was dropped there by the parents and she would have been too cooped up in the house. She was treated as her parents would have wanted. Don't be angry.@@rockit3422

@@rockwell1558 I disagree with you, and I note a contradiction in what you say. Kindly note that cats and dogs are not born domesticated and so they need to be trained to be domesticated, although the level of domesticating intensities differ from animal to animal dependending on their current living environment and their natural level of psychology. Crows are definitely not as amenable to domestication as cats, dogs and rabbits are - this is pretty obvious; however, in the case of Darling this crow's affinity towards human love and affection was indeed very much pronounced owing to the fact that she was an orphan crow whom Kayley greatly helped by making a nesting home for her. It is my belief that Darling sensed Kayley's help and reciprocally manifested her deep gratitude to her by continuing to stay in the family's immediate environment and befriending Sam the dog and Gigi the cat. Darling was definitely looking for a warm and loving home with her human parents - this is not to say that she was to be permanently imprisoned within the home of her human parents but to have the opportunity to return to her human home. So why couldn't the family allow her to stay in their home and to be accommodated in a bird cage. If this were not passible for reasons whatsoever, then the least that the family could have done was to have built a bird house for her outside the house - this would have protected Darling from predators. All I can say is that this family failed to go the extra step by safeguarding Darling by giving her a secure home to live in. This is the painful tragedy to all of us who love and care for animals.

Exactly. I braced myself...but - no good. I've tamed 2 feral cats 2 different times...out here in the Blue Ridge mountains. They each went from Wild and ferocious, to loving and tame. Then they each disappeared, independent of each other. I tell myself that they wandered off and found a loving partner. But I know that coyotes are smart and hungry, here in these mountains. I never tried to keep the cats inside when they wanted to be out and running free. Each one had his own personality. Each one affected me deeply and enriched my life, just like all my domestic pets have always done.

I grew up in the country, where an immigrant farmer from Poland had rescued a crow. Its name was Echo. We lived about a third of a mile across the field on a hill. Whenever Echo saw my siblings and I outside in the yard playing, he would fly over. Echo knew four or five words and how to say them: his name, "Echo," and "hello," I recall. He would sit on a low, nearby branch and "talk" with us. We had dogs and cats as well as us, so he avoided coming down to the ground. . . . Then one day Echo stopped coming over. We would look across the field and call its name. It had always been so thrilling to see his black image flying toward us, but that would no longer happen. We were told later that Echo had been shot simply because they had wanted something to shoot at. Whereas Echo would let us pet him, the wild crows had learned what guns were. They became very mistrustful of humans in general, but when a gun appeared, you could hear the alarm calls, and they would fly even further away. Echo was a special bird. He liked us. We missed him a great deal.

I knew heartbreak was coming because all of this was said in the past tense. Crows are so amazing. At my last home, I lived in the territory of a shy, quiet crow couple. We fed them every day and they became very comfortable with us, coming close and hanging out on our small deck with us. One liked to play peekaboo with me. They could tell that I'm disabled (and small) and, as quiet as they were, they still became very protective of me, watching "intruders" (strangers in the yard) very closely and carefully if those intruders were interacting with me. They were only protective of me though, not my tall, abled husband. It was very sweet.

@enilenis
@enilenis 3 місяці тому
I've been friends with a crow for over 2 years. Normally, the crows in my area are extremely shy, but one of them oddly picked me out and decided to be a soulmate. I haven't missed a morning in over 2 years to feed her. She has a male partner and he often acts jealous, but she is considerate enough to make sure he doesn't feel left out. She lets him know that she still loves him, by carrying food over when he refuses to join us. We communicate without words. Sometimes she comes over just to sit and look at me and my cat, and we sit and watch the crow. They're not as friendly with eachother as the animals in this video, but we're making slow progress. I think my cat is able to tell my crow apart from the others, as I have multiple visitors each day, but only one of them is special. On few days she doesn't show up on time, I get very worried, but she always comes back. Even in the worst of weather, she'll still come over to eat. If she wants something different, other than what I offer, she'll walk away from the food and wait for me to replace it with a different dish. Because of that I always have to have a wide selection of food items. Since I feed her well, she looks pristine. Shiny smooth feathers. Compared to other street crows, who dig through garbage, mine looks like a royalty. I'm deeply honored to be that crow's friend. As years pass, I fear the day when she might finally disappear. We do have predator birds like bald headed eagles. There are dangers, but unfortunately, I can do nothing to keep the crow safe. All I can do is hope she gets to live a good life and I will help as much as I can.

@@apepchoko This is a story is about this beautiful crow in the name of Darling and not about the domestication of animals. This was a miraculous story that happens once in a thousand life times. We humans are called to treasure and cherish such miraculous and touching stories of humans and animals, and to pass these touching and miraculous stories to generations of human beings - this miraculous and touching story is about Darling, an orphaned crow that wanted to show its gratitude to the humans who saved it from certain starvation and eventual death. By way of gratitude to Kayley, family and Sam the dog and Gigi the cat, Darling wanted to spend her life with this family in their home. While I am not necessarily advocating keeping birds in the home, the least that Kayley and family could have done was to have built a bird house within the external vicinity of their farm house. It was most obvious that Darling grew very very fond of the family and loved playing with Gigi and Sam in the immense garden. Its very disappointing to note that Kayley and family did not go the extra mile to help Darling with a warm and loving home, even after she visited them at their home window and made those attention-seeking sounds. It was manifestly obvious that Darling indeed became most intimate and protective with the externality of the house and its immediate environment to the extent that she swooped down to attack anyone and every one who dared to approach "her house". We who love and remember Darling can only hope and pray that she is safe wherevers she is. May Almighty God bless and protect our sweetheart Darling.

Thanks to Kayley, Darling was a happy crow while she lived within the confines of Kayley's home. I just wish Kayley and family had built a bird home for Darling as the video and Kayley's narrative clearly shows that Darling very much wanted to be part of Kayley's family. I can understand that keeping a crow in one's home may be a bit bizarre, but if Kayley and family had built a birdhouse for Darling, it may afforded the freedom and flexibility to Darling as well as to have given her that intimacy that Darling so much desired.

@@suzannemarienau2760 what are you talking about? It's a wild animal. She did keep it safe by bringing it to safety as a fledgling. You can't bring every wild animal inside to 'protect' it. The crow didn't want to come inside at night, it slept in the forest, so letting it in during the day wouldn't have achieved a thing. It wasn't any more vulnerable than every creature living as nature intended. It could fly, forage, and protect its territory. Not the slightest bit more vulnerable than any other wild bird.

I helped a baby starling that I found at our hangar that had fallen over 30 feet from its nest. It could not fly, had barely any feathers and had ants all over it, I just couldn't leave it. I had no idea what to do. Contacted someone who suggested lots of meal worms, mashed up strawberries, lettuce etc. He/she grew up to fly a few months later. I brought "Tweet" back to the hangar and our office throwing meal worms out into the grass showing Tweet how to dig for his meals. He even recognized my car when we would pull up and would fly onto the the rear view mirrors waiting for his meal worms. One day he never came, then it turned into days, weeks and months. I just hope that he was not hurt and is doing okay. It's sure hard not to hope that I may see him this spring. We can only do our best when animals are hurt or are in need.

This is a story is about this beautiful crow in the name of Darling and not about the domestication of animals.
