Nothing is more powerful than redemption. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with friend and former NASCAR racer, Lyndon Amick, about his life as racecar driver, combat soldier, and his miraculous journey to pick up the pieces of a broken life.
A young man from a family of South Carolina chicken farmers decided to take the path of most resistance. He wanted to be a racecar driver. Sugartit Speedway in the Palmetto state fueled his desire to give racing a try. And boy did he try. The big boy stuffed himself in a go-kart with the goal of being fast. His ascension into the upper ranks of the sport came just as fast. Fast forward some race wins and a championship in the Goody's Dash Series, and suddenly the Amick Family Farms had their very own NASCAR Xfinity Series team. And with it came struggles. A new team, a driver trying to learn. Although he showed glimpses of raw talent, things never seemed to work out for Lyndon Amick.
Shortly after the birth of his first son, a race at Talladega was the pivot point for Lyndon Amick. While spinning backward in a massive 20-something car crash, he decided that he was done. Lyndon walked away from the life of a NASCAR driver. He decided to enlist in the military. His life switched from race days, interviews, and appearances to drill sergeants stripping down his being to build the perfect soldier. His mindset was clear. Not only did he want to serve his country, he wanted to fight for it.
The journey took him across the globe to Afghanistan. While there he learned the mindset of what it took to stay alive amidst the everyday reality that each day could be his last. No day more apparent than when his company ended up in a fire-fight. With bullets forming a canopy of smoke above him, Amick turned into the proven leader.
But when the combat stopped, he admits the realities that faced him when he got back home, were not so fulfilling. What he escaped for was something he now had to face, himself. An imperfect husband, a dead-beat dad. Simply put, his marriage was broken and his life was about to come off the rails. Just how did the story transform from darkness to light? Lyndon shares his soul with Dale Jr. and co-host Mike Davis. He reveals the inner workings of the healing that put back the pieces of his broken life.

Wow Dale, you, Mike, and especially Lyndon Amick have gifted your audience with one of the most profound, heartfelt interviews I have ever watched. I don't think I can find the correct words to describe my admiration for Sgt. Amick. That man, despite his self admitted flaws, is a true American hero with a story that spreads real, heart felt hope that there are still good people in this wonderful Country of ours. And, no I have not overlooked the sacrifice and heartache that his wife Melanie has endured. She proves there are Angels among us. Well done guys.

And these stories must be told, because it isn't just you Americans that have these stories, we have them too!! What an amazing story, and what an amazing guy, and i imagine he has only scratched the surface!!

Spent the last 2 days driving to and from work listening to this 3 hr episode. THE BEST EPISODE YET!!! Very moving and made this 49 year old man tear up several times. Only 1 episode compares in my opinion and that was the Kenny Schrader episode when Jr. read his thank you to Schrader and made him tear up. Kenny will always carry some of the deepest secrets and that episode for me was also moving. Both episodes are very much so AWARD WINNING!!! THANK YOU AND KEEP IT UP!!!!

I'm going through a divorce right now that went the other way with this. I wasn't unfaithful, but I had a lot of brokenness inside me that went unhealed for a long time. And she wasn't able to handle it. But man, I just cried so hard at work watching this. That peace is real. That freedom is real. If anyone is listening to this too and needs to talk, I'm open ears. Cause you will never understand God's love until it hits you in an undeniable way.

As someone who married their high school sweetheart we were together for 8 years with a child and going from 13-21 years old it breaks my heart that the second things weren’t great and I’ll be the first to admit I wasn’t the best but I was loyal and faithful just knowing that there are women out there that instead of when things get hard they find someone else instead and leaving someone at the darkest point in their life they stay and try. I just can’t help but think how different things would be if she was supportive and comforting instead of closing me off and pushing me away. What really gets me is if what this guy and his wife have is true love then it breaks my heart thinking maybe I’ve never felt that before.

Thank you for sharing stories like this. Life is a spiritual battle. The enemy wants to distract all of us from what's real. The ONLY way out is a true encounter with the living God, with a heart of repentance. Once you have this life changing encounter, your life will be radically changed forever! This is the only way to have real peace and joy in this life. Earthly treasures are empty,. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian,. it's having a personal relationship with a real and loving God. God Bless You All !!

I literally have goose bumps after listening to Lyndon's testimony as it could be called. I had tears in my eyes at points, I hated him then loved him at other points...a very open and honest self portrayal of his true life. God saved him in war for a reason and that reason was his family, and his wife is a Saint. Thanks Jr. for bringing us such great programming...this show just keeps getting better and better.

True words that many many people should listen, and more importantly is to really hear what he has to share. There is no showmanship in his telling of the events that he lived through, there is no "Look at me, and what I did." He is speaking as a person who truly was there in those situations. His shrouding of his carefully chosen words is to make what was horrific to be more easily heard and understood. Even in his speech his is still protecting people, he is sparing them the horrors that he lived through. These are a few of the traits of a humble man who was simply doing what he knows he is supposed to do.

This was one of best interview yet. Very deep intervention and leaning how to love yourself. A man who can open up about being a deadbeat father and husband but find his way is very positive. My father beat my mother accused her of cheating when he was the one cheating. They got divorce but after he lost her he stated to confession that he was the cheater , drunk worthless abusive man and he doesn't value her or us 3 boys. But they got back together in 2000 She passed away in 2014 from Huntington deisese. He regets everything he did and as a son I will always love him no matter what happened in there life Don't ever give up Actions speak louder than words

I love the podcast and listen every week. This particular episode I must tell you had me driving down the interstate in utter tears. Not only is it a story of redemption but an amazing story of restoration. As a 50 year old divorced father of four daughters who deals every day with the guilt of my decisions everyday this truly hit some place somewhere deep inside my soul. Thank you Lyndon for sharing and you Jr for using your voice and media to allow faith to be shared. Wednesday afternoon after I had gotten back less than just a few hours from listening to this podcast I ended up being taken to the hospital with a very quick and very severe onset infection and literally the thought crossed my mind I don’t want to die because I want to have a chance to make things right with the people I’ve hurt. When you do almost all you can do to wreck the one good & beautiful thing in your life, the Grace that God gives to you, through that woman on the other side of the table is nothing short of miraculous in my book. Lyndon, you brought back so much emotion to me & also feelings of gratefulness as I listened to you share w/us what you & Melanie went through. Then to hear Dale say that more than one person probably really needed to hear this is probably one of the most profound & underrated things I have ever heard him say. This is maybe the most honest and upfront podcast I've ever heard. Lyndon has had such an amazing life story.

Dale Jr. is the Barbara Walters of my world. I love how he lets the story evolve, and follows his guest with great questions.

Man, this interview hit hard…can really relate to some of the things he went through…other things he went through would have shattered me…so blessed to hear him open up how he did.

I needed these conversations after my "hard" couple weeks. Makes me realize I just need to keep doing what I'm doing and be the best person you can be.

That was amazing! I thought his explanation about the Afghanistan and Iraq people was just so eye opening. I shared that then listened to the rest and I'm blown away!
