The reason they turned their backs to the British, when _their_ contingent of the parade passed by, was because the British soldiers in the parade hadn't done any of the fighting. They had used colonial troops, but it wasn't the colonial troops who were parading.

Fun micro-factoid about Japan's meteoric rise from isolationist backwater to Victorian world power: When the Americans opened international applications for space at the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, Japan was the first in line for exhibit space and ended up being they third largest spender at the fair behind France and Germany. The Japanese exhibits were also widely regarded as the best of the international visitors, regularly being praised for their consistency in excellence and for the admirable dedication and politeness of the Japanese workers, the only Eastern nation at the time that the Western powers respected as a (near) equal. After the fair, much of the Japanese exhibits' contents were sold or donated to American collectors and museums, and the Japanese structures in the International Section, known as the Ho-O-Den Buildings, became one of only three structures left standing as the rest of the fair structures, all intended to be temporary, were either torn down or destroyed by fire. Tragically, the Ho-O-Den Buildings were also burned during World War II by anti-Japanese rioters.

Very well done and very entertaining. Especially the part of the Mongol invasions is hilarious. Your animations are just beautiful and - err - quite kawaii. However, there are some major and minor mistakes, of which I want to correct the four ones that imo are the most worthy to be pointed out. 1. Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea after he had unified the country, and his failure wasn't the cause of closing the country by the Tokugawa. The two most important aims of the closure were: kicking out every Catholic missionary and persecuting Christianity as thoroughly as possible, and secondly to monopolize foreign trade to the shogun. 2. The battle of Sekigahara wasn't against Hideyoshi's son Hideyori, but Ishida Mitsunari. The battle against Toyotomi Hideyori was the Siege of Osaka Castle in 1615, after he had reached adulthood and started to become a real threat to the Tokugawa. 3. The correct character for the Qing Dynasty is 清, not 慶 4. Japan gained Taiwan after the First Sino-Japanese War, and Korea - as well as southern Sakhalin and the South Manchurian Railway - after the Russo-Japanese War. The outcome of the First Sino-Japanese War broke China's supremacy over Korea, though.

At 7:26 when the samurai said "huh... neat" I got major oversimplified vibes lol. Great video guys keep up the good work.

11:01 : "they decimated their army in the process" - that wasn't a bug, it was a feature. There is a theory that Hideyoshi attacked Korea for this specific reason: after most of the country was finally united and the century-old civil war stopped, there were lots and lots of warriors who knew nothing but how to fight, suddenly out of a job. They could have destabilized the country again, so one of the possible reasons for the Korean campaign was to get rid of them.

fun fact the battle at Sekigahara was Ieyasu vs Mitsnuari, who was an advisor to Hideyoshi, the guy who preceeded Ieyasu and was the follow up to Nobunaga. It was a battle between the man who wanted the former ruler's son to be leader (Mitsunari) , and the man who wanted it for himself (Ieyasu)

_In hindsight this is seen as a bit of a backfire_ This may be the biggest euphemism of all time 😂👍

8:23 You think that's weird? on the 9th of October 1945, a Typhoon struck the Allied fleet at Okinawa. losses in ships and material were significant, with over 200 vessels sunk, grounded or otherwise damaged and 80% of the stores and supplies lost, but the amazing thing is had the Allies been forced to invade Japan, the period where the Typhoon struck is when the fleet would have been assembling for the invasion of Kyushu. it was almost THREE TIMES. THREE FREAKING TIMES.

This is just amazing, great job. Anyway, I would love to see a history of Korea, or some of the Southeast Asian countries or Australia.

This is very good just a couple grievances, one being that its written and pronounced, "Sekigahara" no H before the first E. And Secondly I know this is a short video as there is a lot of stuff to cover but with the sengoku period being the most famous I wish you explained about the betrayal of Mitsuhide Akechi with Nobunaga and also wished you could cover Yukimura Sanada as he is by some considered the best Samurai to hold up their ideals of honor and loyalty. I would recommend anyony to either play Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada or the Samurai Warrior games in general or even look up about Yukimura.

This video will be very helpful for my AP class. Currently we’re on the classical age in India, but when we get to japan it will be good to know.

7:43 "...and a brand new weapon they invented called the katana, which was extremely effective against Mongol armour." The katana was not a "brand new invention", it was essentially the same sword they'd been using for hundreds of years at that point. And it was extremely _ineffective_ against Mongol armour, and it wasn't until _after_ the second invasion that metallurgical improvements made the swords more resistant to damage from armour - which it was never meant to cut through in the first place.
