You always want a dress or skirt to fit perfectly. But often after the first wash the length becomes shorter. The thing gets a little shorter, but you feel uncomfortable. It seems like everyone is looking at her open knees.
These 5-6 cm can be easily returned in different ways:
1) The easiest way is to sew a strip of fabric to the hem. If there is no exact material like this, then any suitable solid color or mesh will do.
2) You can lengthen the dress with a flounce. To make everything match, make a belt from the same fabric.
3) Using lace. You can sew it on the edge or insert it, stepping back from the bottom a few centimeters. Or sew it on the waistline.
In these ways you can update your things.
I have a favorite knitted dress that I’ve been wearing for three seasons now. I will decorate it with a strip of lace.
Previously, I had to do this: I measured a few centimeters from the bottom and cut off part of the skirt. Then I overcast the edges, turned them over and sewed lace on top. In this case, precision is needed. With the slightest shift, even 1 cm, the dress will be skewed.
Now I do everything exactly the same, but in a different way.
- On the dress, I measured 5 cm from the bottom and drew a line in a circle. I basted elastic lace with wavy edges here. I did this on both sides.
- I connected the lace into a ring. I stitched it on both sides. I cut the dress in the middle of the lines.
- I sewed the edges of the fabric close to the lines.
- I turned the overcast edges in different directions and laid finishing lines on top.
- It will be beautiful if you make two parallel strips of lace and also insert them on the sleeves.
- To lengthen the bottom, you need to take lace or another insert wider and, basting, bend them in the middle (make a fold). When you cut the fabric, the lace or panel expands and the dress lengthens.
Here lace is a decorative element that refreshed and changed the dress, despite the black color.
