I watched him race once, at Lowther. I was just a kid so to be up close to all those horses and carriages was really cool. He was pretty fearless which made it even more fantastic to watch him do his thing....RIP

One of the reporters on itv(Catherine) mentioned that she herself had just been on her way to a mourning having just become a widow herself. Wouldn´t it be a wonderful thing if it were possible to make the funeral into a rememberance of Phillip but to acknoledge the loss of British lives, many of them alone in hospital, at the same time. I thought that the two ceremonies in the US before inauguration and then on the steps of the WH, had a lot of beauty and were really soothing. To me that would bring everybody together in their sorrow and mourning.

It's weird, on youtube there's all these "time capsule" films and you see just how full on use of carriages used to be. Maybe in another hundred years, there'll be an almost centenarian who insists on driving a car instead of a hovercraft or what have you. If we're still round in another hundred years, that is. I think it's nice, admittedly it's likely only those in an upper socioeconomic class could afford to do this now - but if you can afford it, why not? It seems like a homage to the times he grew up in and the time of his ancestors, as carriages would have been changing to be replaced predominantly by motorisation.
