Great video, been watching it in segments...... great stuff The fact that entire cities were abandoned.... suggests more than famine and war... doesn't make sense people 100% abandon a place, when it can be pillaged for stone or used as lookout points and highground during battles etc.... also the whole mayan area is rich fertile land, with year-round moist soil in the humid forests........ Even if cities experienced crushing droughts/famines..... at least 100 people would probably stay at the cities as the other 50,000 or more leave....... makes no sense that everyone would leave Since the decline was mostly 780-930..... my guess is the mayan cities hit a climax of art and culture, and in the decline and fracturing of mayan states--- populations declines and reverted back to smaller tribal survival means, so agriculture declined and mayans eventually had to hunt for food, thus finding no use in the giant cities of their ancestors and eventually creating new cities to the north where the humid inhospitable jungle was a bit less inhospitable..... the cities eventually overgrowing and being lost to history

Pete, I am deeply thankful for the effort on producing this piece. The sobriety in which you present the history of this wildly complex and rich civilization does not fail to inspire the awe the whole study of history deserves, while also being balm for the exhausting intensity much of media produced today focus on. I do look forward to explore your other videos, and see your future work. Once again, thank you very much.

What an insult for our civilization to be buried and thankful for all the time and dedication Pete Kelly put into this it meant a lot and even got emotional at times because my ancestors did not deserve that whatsoever. Will keep spreading kindness and manifesting abundance for our culture to never be forgotten and / or no longer buried in the past.

This is one of the best documentaries I've seen in a long time. It is not possible however, to tell the entire story of the Maya in such a short period of time. The ancient people built cities throughout a massive area that would encompass many countries today. There are also hundreds of known archeological sites yet to be excavated by legitimate acceptable services in order to preserve the integrity of their contents. Thus, an excellent documentary to be sure, the story is incomplete and not possible to be known in total by anyone living today.

I've watched this in its entirety, twice! Extremely well done! It's fascinating, respectful, inspiring, and it just pulls me in and doesn't let go. I will probably watch it many more times. I can't say enough about it really. I could write far more than a silly UKposts comment about it. Awesome job Pete! Wow!

What a well done documentary. I've lived in Mexico. Climbed the steps of Chichén Itzá, Coba, and Tulum. Visited Isla Mujeres and a number of other parts of the Yucatan. But I did not know half of the history you talked about and covered with such reverence. Again well done. 👍
