The EXCITING cod fishing trip that ended in hospital

The cod fishing was exciting before disaster struck and I ended up in hospital. The first half an hour of the trip saw some very exciting fishing action. The cod were really on the bite.

Ouch! Most of us have done that, but I reckon I've got more scars and injuries from handling redfin over the years. That was a ripper casting session, that section of the Ovens is in really good nick.

I was fly fishing with a good friend of mine when I made a very rookie mistake and walked behind him while he was casting and didn't announce myself. Well, his size 18 nymph buried itself in my cheek, way past the barb. The hook was so small that we had to cut all the material off the fly so that we expose enough of the shank to poke the barb and tip back through and finish threading it out. After about 30 minutes of struggling with it we were finally able to get it out and were able to keep fishing. Great video Robbie, hope you heal up fast and get back out there!

Ouch! After a month of casually fishing, I caught my first cod this week! 60cm! It was a keeper. I was lucky enough to catch another the next day too! But made sure to release :)
