i personally hope theres a larger push for more public transportation, that way we could have the majority of commuters getting around in carbon neutral transportation meanwhile the roads are left wide open for enthusiasts, and since car and motorcycle lovers are the minority of the population, maybe it wouldnt be as big a deal if we still had a few ICE vehicles farting around because most people could get around without them, lowering the overall emissions of a city. it could be a win-win

There's an anime called Ex Drivers which take place in distant future where all cars drive by themselves. Whenever the AI cars lose control or malfunction, a team of highly trained drivers stop the cars with Supras, Imprezas, Bmws, Mr2s and other old cars. The AI cars often malfunction

The state of things in Europe right now bugs me immensely. I love cars! Growing up in the late 90's and 2000's i saw many awesome, inspiring, very cool cars, and now that i (and i suppose others in my age group) are able to own and enjoy our own cars, we're just in time to watch all the epic mods and stuff we've dreamt of doing to our cars as a kid get outlawed and soon, maybe even the cars we fell in love with becoming banned or impossible to drive entirely. Another point that strikes a nerve is the fact that ride-sharing/shared mobility seems to be the full force focus of the near-ish future. I couldn't imagine not owning my own car, not having my very own pride and joy to make my own and enjoy driving. Driving is engaging, stimulating and the feel of pulling some G's in a tight bend and hitting your shifts just right while taking in the sounds and smells of your roaring engine is so insanely satisfying, i don't know how i will stay sane when all we get in our 40's and 50's might be self-driving Duracell taxiboxes.

I'm a pretty forward thinking person meaning I don't always hold on to the past, but cars in the future will probably be lifeless, emotionless, mute things just meant to go from A to B if manufacturers continue with their lazy ways. Hopefully Porsche and Koenigsegg who joined very recently this year do succeed with their clean fuel program, not to mention Toyota is working on Hybrid Diesel engines and cleaner, more efficient engines to keep ICE alive.

One scary point that wasn't covered here was with subscription models for cars. This is already happening with Teslas and BMWs. As these companies evolve more and more into mobility companies, I am afraid that we might not really own our cars at a certain point. Even today, it is quite difficult to properly customize a car, because say the ecu is locked, or the electronics are all weird, or the worst of it all,my car needs to be connected all the time, if I want to drive it. Heck there are some vehicles that won't allow you to take full control of your car, until you've gotten some miles on it. Not a big deal today, but if cars get all connected in the future, it is highly possible that the manufacturer or insurer or banks or the government could lock it remotely, for say missing a payment or a parking ticket. I am excited for the future of vehicles, gasoline, electric or hydrogen or any new tech aside,these new connected features are the ones I'm really worried about and feel they are a wrong step the industry is taking without much outcry.

Their is a company right now designing a brand new improved rotary type engine. The rotor is more rounded and the housing is more like a clover shape than a triangle. It is purported to have higher power, more efficiency, and solves the problem of blow by in the original rotary.

I feel this already as I grew up in the 1980's I love physical media from Tapes & CD's to game Carts & cassettes. But I know a few kids around the age of 12 and the vast amount of their games are digital... especially on the PC. They had no connection or feel of physical games, nor the implication of companies gaining power over consumers (not being able to sell what they own) but to be fair they are young. So being they are kids of friends of the family I invited them over 1) too see my old Kingswood '69 2) play some of the old games Vectrex, NES, SNES, Mastersystem, Famicom - but also have them to dig through the games & most importantly, experience "couch co-op" I genuinely believe they had more fun that day in this outta worldly experience then they had playing the latest COD or Valorant of late. Two of them I found out immediately began saving & ended up purchasing SNES each while another bought a GBA! People don't miss what they don't know... but people can have an almost nostalgic experience to something they haven't experienced from a by gone era that they strongly relate to... The future of the back yard mechanic is dying.. Cars are becomming soo complex that local mechanics will be obsolete & we'll reach a time where we will have to take our cars to the dealers to get our vehicles worked on. I don't see a way around that when cars are becomming needlessly complex. An electric car by concept as an incredibly simple device... if you take out Tesla levels of performance that battery packs certainly wouldn't need state of the art liquid cooling... a simple air cooled system would be sufficient. All the cogs are comming into place of a perfect system, which is what companies and governments want... but where do we fit in? The are collectors with 100's of cars, they don't drive them, they're just show pieces.... in the comming years fuel prices will force most of us to say good bye to our V8's & all those collectable cars will stay undriven... it's a god damn shame. Give me a bog simple electric car, one that I can swap the engine out over a weekend, one that isn't full of computers & sensors so I can dive into it and play around with it... but until such a day. I don't look to the future with a smile. To many wonderful things people took for granted and disappearing... Remember when the owners manual showed you how to changed your own spark plugs? Remember when it was expected to know how to install extra boards into expansion slots if you owned a computer? We took convenience at every chance and gave up on knowledge..

I get scared when legend cars turn into wagons or suvs

I like to own one or two because cars have a culture attached to it, like any other technical inventions. We are not just constructing building for their function but we also care about their appearance. Every radio or camera in the end had also some one responsible about its "look" and "feel". I like to get around in style like I get around in nice clothing. If you just wont to eat then do it at home just by yourself with a noodle-cup-to-go. But if you want a nice dinner you certainly go into a nice restaurant and care not only about the food but also about the setting, the nice opener cigar or whiskey, about the people you invited, the desert which is more a piece of art then just - hm - a desert. etc. For me, every morning when I need to go to work I love to look at my car, its shape, its shiny appearance and paint work, and then I get in, love the engine noise, set my favoured music etc. before driving off enjoying the ride. It is almost like a celebration. Even better after a long day of work. Cruising through the illuminated city in the evening in my car is calms me down, prepares me for my family and allows me (the older man) to pick up the grocery list from my wife plus add a red rose for her. With public transport (in our city very well organized)? Impossible. I would arrive tired, probably wet or frozen or sweaty or all at ones. There is nothing more relaxing then take the spin in my car. Although I own a very decent normal mini van with a standard mid-size engine. My interest in cars and vehicles as a young boy made me poking my nose into anything technically, finally graduating as an electric engineer setting up i.e. whole factories for solar panel production (instead of gluing my butt onto public roads) Today we live in a world where everyone is just telling the best next person what he or she is doing wrong and most importantly needs to moralize. Be it transport, eating habits, hobbies, accommodation, any activity, well whole lifestyles. You name it. Every time there is a loud, aggressive and relentless "activist" group driving the majority crazy. Individual transport in the shape of private cars are the most hated object and I never understood why. You do not need and want one. Hey, it's a free country. Nobody forces you to own one. We should stop this at once, including this greenish moralistic politics mongering. The next generation should discover and decide and go for their own preferences in the future but should allow the elderly generation to have their way too. The future technologies and culture which comes along build on the old ones anyway. so both can be excepted and allowed in parallel. Peace! from Dresden / Germany

Some things will have to change for electric to be practical at all. My apartment has a single charger (most in the area have 0). The gigantic parking lot at my work has like 5 (most have 0). If I needed to recharge outside of these two places it'd take almost an hour.

i think one of the cooler aspects of this is that electric doesn’t equal bad. they’re not as sexy as the hum of a big engine but they can go crazy fast, they’re cheap to run, they’ll likely by easier and simpler to work on, a great way to grow the hobby and bring speed and cool cars to the masses

For the future we should be moving to minimize the use of personal vehicles in favor of green, efficient, reliable, and enjoyable mass transit. Individual transportation would be reserved for logistics/freight, and for going places transit can't take you, which might still take the form of "shared mobility" through shared vehicles.

Honestly I don’t worry about the electric future. It’s the self driving one that gets me worried. I love to drive around and I’m sad that we might not be able to own cars/our own transportation in the future.

I wish he also talked about the reduction of gas stations and that gas probably will be harder to find due to not only the reduction of needing fossil fuels but also the fact that electric charging stations will probably take over standard gas stations which will also drastically increase the price of gas itself.

Totally agree with you about the GR Yaris. Problem with Futurist predictions... it leaves greedy humans out of the equation. I see the future of middle to lower class motoring to be more like modern Cuda... Ancient cars kept on the road using cobbled together parts from whatever we can find (farm equipment, retired industrial machinery, etc). The advantage Cuba car culture has is carburetors... so we're really probably kinda SCREWED!!!

I hope that Porsche can find a way to make synthetic fuels more affordable. It’s cool stuff but I’ve read that it’s pretty expensive. Also I think fuel development in the aerospace industry will move into automotive. Just my 2 cents :)

I had a dream last night were I saw the future of cars. Particularly in cities where you have to pay for parking in spots near your destination, or go to a parking garage and have to walk a couple miles to the store or restaurant you want to go to. Vehicles will be, not only self driving, but self Valet. This means you can get out at the place you want and have your car drive itself to the nearest parking garage. When you are ready to leave, you can send a signal to your car via smart watch or an app on your phone. It will drive to your location and you will be on your way.
