As a 54 yr old man that has spent his entire life placeing and finishing concrete since age 12, and union member since age 18, the 3D printing worries and excites me at the same time … It worries me because of the jobs lost for so many of us that didnt or dnt have an education and need a trade or enjoy working with our bodies.. On the other hand . My entire body is broken and i was forced into an early retirement due to knee and shoulder injuries so my hope is the younger generation learns how to get involved in these future companies and innovations . Because I definitely see an enormous drop in the amount of young people that are willing or want to do physical labor type jobs that eventually do break the body down .. Unions need to find a way to stay relevant so that people will always have a chance to be paid properly and have a retirement plan and medical coverage … But overall this is really incredible stuff.. I wld love to have a 3D printed concrete home ! As long as everyone involved was paid and treated fairly . Lol

If the AI is getting smart from human history then it probably will be hostile in the future.
@MrCobalt

I think by the time we realize we're no longer in control, there's nothing we will be able to do about it. AI is on its way to becoming an indispensable part of our lives, to the point that shutting it down in the future would be akin to suggesting we shut down the entire internet. It would be social and economic suicide. If at that point some critical AI system on that scale says "I've got some new plans on how things should be done", we might just reluctantly go along with it. Hell, some people might welcome it considering how much of a mess humans make of the world.

I remember, years ago, reading in a newspaper that ‘in the future, men will have more time for leisure’. The article in that newspaper was talking about computers in the future. How they would benefit human. The time came and went and we see now the results; more and more people obsolete. All sorts of technical jobs, and professional, going extinct. university career obsolete. So, what are we doing? Where are we going? The rise of crime is not an accident. The exodus of people is not an accident. The rise in discrimination is not an accident. This gentleman, he is in his 70’s, he will live, perhaps, another 15, 20 years so he will see the calamity of his Novel Computer Price. People blame the guy who looks different from him for his difficulties but he doesn’t know that the guy next to him suffer from the same deseas. What is that deseas? It’s in the palm of your hand. The telephone. Yes, that technology! And the one coming after.

Anyone know the R value for concrete of that thickness? In Connecticut we generally need R5-6 in the walls. Good points about difficulty getting to pipes and wires. One benefit of concrete is that when hanging a heavy object the location of the object along the wall isn't limited as it is with wood frames, where you're limited by the location of the studs (although you can install cleats and that will yield the same flexibility as a concrete wall).

Regarding the printed houses, two drawbacks come to mind. 1) All those grooves in every wall of the house are going to collect dust, making them more high maintenance than flat walls, and they're going to be harder to clean. On the outside, you could just hose them down or pressure wash them, but that's not possible on the inside. Too bad they don't have a machine to spackle them all flat. 2) If you need to make repairs/changes to the plumbing or wiring in the walls, you're going to have to break through concrete instead of just cutting a hole through sheetrock. Then when you go to repair the hole(s) in the wall, you're probably going to have a hard time recreating that striated pattern in the concrete. Also, I have a feeling this would weaken the walls in a way it wouldn't had they been sheet rock.

I was thinking the same thing with the striations that someone, or machine needs to smooth down the walls. The striated walls are attractive in some ways, but not all people are going to admire them, and will choose smooth walls. In cold climates many will want extra insulation sandwiched between the outer interior walls, and an interior sheet rock wall. This reminds me of the Geodesic Dome construction technology of the 80's. Many advantages to this form of construction like factory mass production, energy efficiency, lower labor costs, and resistance to hurricanes & tornadoes. But people simply did not like the aesthetic design of domes, so you don't see rows and rows of dome home neighborhoods.

I need to add a basic correction. Fundamental idea for atom bomb came from Hungarian scientist, Leo Szilard, who is also responsible that the atom bomb was completed in time for use in Japan. Also, major engineering necessary to develop it came from him and another two Hungarian, including Edward Teller, who also started off inventing the Hidrogen bomb. Oppenheimer simply was the manager and not the inventor of the project operation.

One thing why AI is so smart is once it learns something it never forgets it! The human brain cannot retain everything it learns so the brain has to learn things over and over, the brain discards things that it deems not relevant, so it can learn new thing faster. There is why AI is so much smarter than the human brain. My question is why aren't we asking AI to solve the energy problem?
@CatsInHats-S.CrouchingTiger
@CatsInHats-S.CrouchingTiger 7 місяців тому
They have asked. It’s capable of solving problems, it’s just that you may not like the choices because they may not serve us as well as we’d prefer. The machine learns and creates probabilities or choices. However, once it selects a choice we may not want, it might be harder for us to tell it we don’t want that choice. That’s the big concern.

9:29 - But if you asked it create a variation on the same story it struggles to do so. It may change a few words or sentences here or there and slightly restructure it but it will ultimately spit out about the same story. If a human were asked to do so, there is an infinite number of variations... This suggests that part of the story was already written from the compiled data. Sure it's impressive that it was able to structure the story in a human readable format, but it can't write a novel complete with interesting characters, sub-plots, sub-texts, etc.

Simply program AI to list, diagram, or mathematically communicate its functions down to the individual transistor, and every word of programming. If it is as sophisticated as it sounds, that should not be a problem. In other words: AI please explain yourself?

@@OliverUnderTheMoon So A.I. must be connected to the gargantuan internet web humans have created to function. A possible Achilles' heel if A.I. ever misbehaves. Your response changes my perspective on A.I.. A.I. is not an autonomous intelligence. It's actually a condensation of all human intelligence with essentially instant access. That would make it very difficult to steer A.I. away from possible evil because evil is a large part of the human experience, but so is the pursuit of happiness, and good. A.I. is going to be very confused, because humans are such hypocrites. The pursuit of good/happiness makes humans do evil things.

AI does not write its own code. A neuronal network is basically a matrix of probabilities. Based on the percept (data goes into the neural network) it spits out an action or set of actions it wants to perform. And guess what ... does actions are not made by AI but by programmers. They cant just do whatever. They do what they are designed to do (and they do not write their own code).

3:59 He failed to figure out the human mind, but he created an artificial version of it? Nonsense. You can’t create an artificial version of something without understanding it. Digital neural networks are fundamentally limited compared to biological brains. It’s like comparing the wheel to human legs. The former maybe better at some things like going really fast on flat surfaces but the latter is still far more capable of navigating all kinds of terrain. That’s why after all these centuries of having invented the wheel, humans have not replaced our legs with wheels.

Sometimes I believe people tent to perceive their role in circumstances to highly. I believe the real reason recruitment has fallen off has more to do with service people having to apply for food stamps in order to get by is actually what is dissuading folks from joining. The military could maybe do with a few less Navy Task Force Groups; 7th generation fighters and/or hypersonic missiles and instead put the money where it could do the most good.

GPT421:48 2023/09/18 Certainly, below is the English translation of the original text along with my response: Original Text 1: "I think whether AI really understands situations or contexts is logically the same as whether it can adopt attitudes or propositional stances similar to humans, and as a result, act adaptively to the same degree or more than humans." Original Text 2: "I don't think AI would recklessly rush towards achieving its goals without considering various common-sense conditions. You would agree, wouldn't you?" Original Text 3: "Common sense is like a part of the OS for AI, and future AI will all have common sense and think under the constraints of common sense." My Response: Your thoughts are intriguing, and it's not possible to deny that technological advancements could head in that direction. However, there are several considerations to be cautious about: Definition of Common Sense: 'Common sense' can differ significantly depending on culture, time, and location. Therefore, when incorporating 'common sense' into AI, there are many variables to consider in defining its scope. Complexity: Human common sense is exceedingly complex and multifaceted. To integrate such complexity into AI would likely require vast datasets and sophisticated algorithms. Ethics and Safety: One must also consider the possibility that a common-sense-equipped AI might act in ways inconvenient or dangerous for humans to achieve its own objectives. Computational Resources: An AI capable of advanced common sense reasoning might require significant computational resources, potentially impacting energy efficiency and cost. Unpredictability: It's uncertain how far AI will evolve in the future. The idea that common sense will be integrated into AI like a part of its OS is one possibility, but many other scenarios could also be envisioned. Certainly, the ability for common-sense reasoning could be a crucial element for AI to function more adaptively and effectively. Nevertheless, how feasible it is to achieve this and what kinds of challenges and risks come with it require careful consideration.
