That sounds weird when you're discussing a brutal sport like boxing, but "beautiful" is the only word I can find in my vocabulary that even comes close to describing the way he fought.

I been watching boxing since the 1980s and i think a lot of people dont realise how good SRL was, i seen em all and pound for pound hes the best IMO. Fastest hands barring probably Roy Jones , footwork, power, boxing skills and the brains. And above all always had that heart and guts to dig deep. A rare quality for someone so skilled.

Leonard was more warrior than he got credit for. The pretty boy look and the fast hands yeah....but i was most impressed with his warrior spirit. He took just as much as he gave.

They were at the peak of their career! I loved that fight because you saw a boxer turn into a puncher and you had a puncher turn into an expert boxer! If only Wilder had the trainers that Hearns had!😎

Back in the 70s &80s fighters who became world champions had completed a long and successful amateur career (80+ fights) and around 50 pro fights …they could all box …into weight training too and a good diet too…and this produces fantastic fighters like Ray Leonard , Hagler , Duran , Holmes etc etc …..

That sparring session against that amateur gave an interesting insight into Leonard's pysche. When the guy had a go at Leonard, he was a bit affronted and put him firmly in his place, almost like "do you know who the fuck I am?". He was a savage in the ring in his prime, for all his fancy skills and good looks....

Suger Ray Leonard is still one of my all-time favorites. He never ran from any of the great fighters of his era. He fought the best of his time and won them all. I didn't want to see him fight those monsters. People like Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and the Panamanian Devil, in my mind growing up, were true monsters, and I thought Sugar Ray should never have anything to do with them. But he never backed down from any of them. That was truly amazing for me, to watch him go into the ring and not only survived but also flourished and became the winner.
