Whenever you hear Super Mario Galaxy, you may think of it’s stellar soundtrack or the emptiness of space present throughout the game. However, one thing that may not come to mind when thinking about Super Mario Galaxy, are the speedruns. Galaxy seems to have a much smaller speedrun community, and since this is my favorite Mario game, I decided to start speedrunning it. And what I found was, well, more than I expected. This is the History of Super Mario Galaxy Any% Luigi World Records, and I’m doing this myself because I doubt Summoning Salt will do a video on this. This video will only cover the Luigi runs as they have more information and would be more interesting to talk and learn about. Now without further ado, let’s talk speedrunning.
For the strat in Honeyclimb that I didn't cover, here's an explanation:
This level uses an exclusive tech that was found by Vallu. This can be done by making sure that Mario or Luigi is neutral on the control stick, just pointing straight up.
Afterwards, you can hold A, and use your character's spin (Mario = Wii Remote), (Luigi = Nunchuk), in order to climb up to the top of the galaxy immediately.
There are two different speeds you can fly up, if you get the one shown in the vid, perform the trick again higher up in the level in order to make it towards the Launch Star. Try to collect as many star bits as possible along the way, as this level has around 150, with many rings as you go from Planet to Planet. Then, proceed to do the second and third planets as normal, as they can be very awkward to work. you will often not get very high speed boosts when doing this.
