I've been eating one meal a day for a bit more than 15 years. It wasn't a plan. I've never been a breakfast eater, and I got really busy with work and started skipping lunches and enjoying a meal in the evening. I liked eating this way and decided to stick with it. Everyone in my life tells me that I am going to get nutritional deficiencies and that I am damaging my body. I'm trim. I'm fit. I'm never sick. They are all mostly overweight and taking prescribed meds for various ailments. To appease everyone, I had a physical checkup and had blood work done. My blood work was perfect, but the doctor referred me to a nutritionist when I told him about my one meal a day eating. I met the nutritionist. She was horrified by my eating style. My main sources of calories are potatoes and beans. I eat all varieties of potatoes and all the varieties of beans. I make a huge pot of beans from dry beans every week. Freeze half of it and eat the other half during the week with steamed potatoes (I cut them up before steaming). My main condiment is salsa. I also usually toss a small handful of walnuts on top before I sit down to eat. Sometimes I add other veggies like broccoli, mushrooms or bok choy to the pot of steaming potatoes, but for most meals it's just potatoes and beans with salsa and walnuts. My desert is usually just a piece of fruit if I have it, which can be an orange, an apple or a bowl of berries. I drink water, nothing else. No booze. No juices. No coffee. No soda. The nutritionist gave me a bunch of literature about meal planning. She wanted me to eat three meals a day and include dairy products in my diet. She was nice and seemed genuinely concerned about me, but she was also fat. I didn't adopt any of her advice. It's two years later. I'm still healthy, fit, and trim and enjoying potatoes and beans. Everyone in my life is still telling me that I am going to get sick. After 15+ years, maybe tomorrow is the day.

My daughter, age 11, is never hungry in the morning - so she doesn't want breakfast and I have never forced her to eat. I think by forcing kids to eat at a certain time (or finishing their plate) we send the message that they should ignore their hunger cues, which is a bad long-term strategy for eating competency as they grow up.

Good for you! I was a terrible eater as a child. Terrible according to adults' criteria. I was having a reduced appetite, I used to wait until the food was at a tolerable temperature, I was chewing slowly until everything would become a paste and, if in the morning, I was always waiting until my tongue was awake too (this was one way of saying it, not knowing that, indeed, systems and organs do take time to wake up)... and so on and so forth. I guess I knew intuitively what I was supposed to do.

In the last month 25 lbs have melted away and I feel great. 18 months ago I was 375 lbs watching UKposts videos of people who overcame obesity and thinking "I wish I could do that." I'm now reaching the shape I was in in my early 20s. I started all this when I turned 61. You can do this. Keto and intermittent fasting are key.

What the Dr. says at the beggining is esential: we won't have enough willpower to fast if we don't have our mind in order. I quit smoking more than 6 months ago, I quit a job that I didn't like so much, my anxiety went down a lot and now I am at peace. I can do everything I set my mind to. I'm in control.

very true...many people are trapped in lives they hate because of money or need for acknowledgement....they re afraid what others might think of them if they choose another path...until they crash and burn and end up in a burnout which drains them or even worse, they get a serious illness due to the stress and then they suddenly overthink their whole lives...when your heart and mind are at peace, your stress levels are low, you are more energetic and have a more positive view on life and you re actually able to enjoy your life and live it,not just have time pass by until you go on the next vacation....

I started IF in November 2018. I was going through a real personal disaster, feeling lost, completely low. I found it on youtube and on a whim, I just did a 18hr fast and guess what "nothing happened". I experimented and got to 20:4 pretty fast even with work and everything. Since then, I have recommended it to many people I care about. I agree with all the benefits but as a layman: 1. My confidence in my own body has gone up exponentially. I am more grateful for my health, I am extremely tuned into the feedback from my body. 2. My will power has gone up. 3. I now have added about an hour of meditation daily. 4. I have since graduated to cold showers, running marathons and ultras, and to entrepreneurship. It is freedom, good health, gratitude, confidence, will power, everything. Once you realize what an exquisite piece of machinery this body really is, you treat it better and you treat yourself better and that reflects in everything else that you do.

“Self imposed scarcity”. When I got my sense of control of what I put into my body, and my habits, it was with fasting. My in my head mantra was “it will still be there tomorrow.” “There’s plenty”. There’s no scarcity in my mindset. Be it food, money, health. So, I don’t have to smash and grab anything. I’m mentally living in abundance.

First day, 16 hours. Second day, 18 hours. Now, I’m at 45 hours and counting. Five pounds lost already. Lots of energy. Very clear mind. Slight headache, but I’ve been trying to up the electrolytes for that. Can’t believe how good I feel without food. And the hunger isn’t bad. It comes in waves, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. It’s so much easier to do this than calorie counting or portion control, and neither of those things ever work for me. I’m almost positive it’s because I’ve been insulin resistant. I’ve had a couple of tests where the doctors have said said my liver enzymes are “off,” too. Don’t know what that means, but I bet I have fatty liver. Going to see how long I can keep this fast and clean up that liver, my gut, kidneys, and everything else. Thanks to both of you for these videos on fasting. One of the most unexpected benefits of fasting for me, has been clarity and ease about giving things up. Addicted to food and sugar for my entire life, when I began fasting, there was a deep change inside of me that no longer felt the need to hold on to things. It’s been a very spiritually transitional experience. Never in my life could someone have convinced me that I could train my body to go without eating. Even now, after practicing fasting for a couple of years, I’ll set a goal of 24 hours, then find if I just go to bed a little earlier, which is important anyways, I can get an extra 8-12 hours easily. When I’m to that point, I’m usually no longer hungry at all and know I can fast indefinitely. That is a miracle for me. I should mention I am a type 2 diabetic. I often tell people one of the greatest benefits of fasting for me is the weight loss, not in pounds, it’s not my goal, normal blood sugar is my goal, but in the weight of STUFF I throw out or donate and even negative relationships!!! It’s so freeing!!! Fasting is one of the greatest blessings of my lifetime for hundreds of reasons. I study at great length about what foods to break my fasts for health. I use a fasting app because there’s something for me, about pressing that button. I always feel a bit anxious about any extended fast and then ALWAYS find it easier than I anticipated. I stay busy during my extended fasts, even planning projects. Hunger is all in my mind. My mind is more hungry than my body and in fact, I now love the feeling of hunger. I also know drinking that water keeps me from feeling hungry and if I do feel hunger, it’s because I haven’t drank enough. If I feel truly hungry, I eat because the body knows what it needs. It’s listening to my body, not my mind. My mind is hungry 24/7 lol.

@@Cekatu I use an app mainly to keep me focused on the fast. I maintain at least a 16/8, but my average has been 19.4 hours - another benefit of an app, historical data. I only eat when I am hungry, so I am not strict about when I begin fasting or when I stop other than I keep a minimum of 16 hours per day and I don't eat after 7pm. The app helps me keep track of how long I have been fasting. It also tracks water intake, which good for me because I tend to forget to drink if I don't have a reminder. I use Fastic. It is the only one I ever used so I can't compare it to any other.

I pointed out the the national average is obese here in the states so maybe the easiest way to fix the system is to quit basing it off broken averages and baselines so the system doesn't keep contributing to the problem. I could tell in a moment, I hurt the ego of this doctor, but in a split second, you could see the light come on. Our visits became far more beneficial instead of the typical superficial.

I have to say that in the last two weeks dr. Jamnadas has impacted my life in a huge way. I’ve been fasting since I was twenty for spiritual reasons, now 43. To have the scientific breakdown of what happens to your body during fasting is life changing. Loaded with that information I just came off a 4 day water fast and it was way different than any other time of fasting. Also I love that you as a G.P has an holistic approach to health. I have been doing intermittent fasting only for 2 days, but the difference is enormous. The last 2 days I have been eating between 11am-6pm only. I have so much energy, I cannot believe. Up until now I had no idea why I was dragging myself through each day with zero energy. And I tried everything to feel better with no success. I just wish I have had come across this information decades earlier, since I'm 47 years old now, but I guess it's better late than never.. Of course when I eat, I have as little carbohydrates as possible as opposed to before. I am so grateful for discovering this metod, it is truly lifechanging.

What a joy to listen to 2 brilliant medical minds discussing such a vitally important subject. My husband is also a medical doctor and I can vouch that it's not only tough selling the idea of fasting to those in the medical profession, but to the patient! I find it interesting that the same people who criticize and diss doctors and big pharma are also unwilling to even discuss the benefits of fasting!. - They complain that fasting is painful? Well so is illness. So is paying that pharmacy bill. And that hospital bill. It's darkly AMAZING how arrogant close-minded people can be. - I convinced my husband of the vast benefits of fasting, by fasting my way to a healthier weight, outstanding blood test results, tighter skin, a serious increase in energy, clearer mind and brain function, etc., etc., etc.! Our Creator created us beautifully. All we have to do is practice logical thinking. And hatch an ounce of faith

Sadhguru also says that your intention and thought has the ability to change the structure of the water molecules. Look it up. It is true. So as you pour your water have good thoughts towards the water. The water fills your stomach so you don't feel hunger. If you have to eat try a fruit. The fiber is good for you and more. Hope this helps. I started returning to my previous ways of eating only dinner. The weight is coming off. One more important thing. Davina Gray-the previous comment praised the doctor for loving his job and his patients. Then you said negative things about those patients and their habits. The key to this doctor’s success is that he recognizes there are many psychological causes for overeating, sometimes because of trauma and abuse that were no fault of the patient. Also, some people are genetically prone to secrete more insulin and store more fat. If doctors are to help their patients, they must be able to put judgment and sense of superiority aside and work with the metabolic problems people have. This doc is great! Follow his example. People with metabolic problems can’t be viewed as “dirty little piggies” or we cannot make a difference.

If you don’t workout and you eat a certain amount of calories and switch to working out but eating the same, guess what that’s a calorie deficit aswell since you’re using more energy than usual and need more energy stores to make up for the extra energy being used. I’ve seen many eating styles and they all can work for different people depending on goals. I’ve seen professional dieticians and nutritionist recommended being on a deficit and fasting has been done since recorded history. Fasting is muscle sparring. @@delphinekirkland1757 that sounds wonderful. I try to use all colors in the peppers when I stuff then. Pick up orange and yellow as well. I need to eat more parsley, I normally have it when I have fresh anchovies to sauté. I usually do a Greek yogurt full fat and mix in NMN every day. Will put a few berries in as well. Always try to include EVOO every day.

@@RogueCylon Color is a big deal for me. When i garden i grow as many colors of everything. . I ate 2 raw red okra pods the last couple of days and I want to keep that up. Wow, fresh anchovies sounds great! I've not had them. I've been listening to Dr.Sinclaire's podcast series on longevity so I'm going to order some nmn. As a student of Ayurveda and I've been thinking that regeneration and rejuvenation is a part of my "calling". It's fun to research. I'm just starting to take it up a notch. Dr.Sinclair advocates IFAN, intermittent fasting with adequate nutrition. My plan is IF with super nutrition and superior lifestyle. Again, it's fun!! And yes, EVO every day for decades. My only oils are olive, avocado, ghee, butter and organic red palm.

TEARFULLY APPRECIATIVE of both of you for your true dedication to wellness. And making the goal of coming off medications an actual reality. I am a woman had a 99% blockage in my left descending artery and had two stents back in 2004. I just came across these videos yesterday and have been watching them all day. I’ve only had one meal per day since yesterday although it wasn’t necessarily all healthy. I’m going to do this fasting as I want to get off all my meds. It’s best for me not to tell anyone I’m going to do this as I already got a negative remark from my neighbor.

Though I have been doing 16:8 and 18:6 Intermittent fasting for over 4 years, I've decided to dedicate myself to more extended fasts this year. Since Jan 3, I've been doing mostly 42-48h fasts every weekend. Only two weekends I did 25h fasts but otherwise, I've been doing well! With keto, IF and extended fasting, I've lost 20lbs in 6 weeks. Started my 48h fast this morning. So many people need to be educated about the power of fasting. All they think they know is 'you are starving yourself'. They don't understand autophagy, BDNF, reduction of inflammation, gut biome and mitochondrial repair.

Been doing them for over 20 years, gradually went from few days to 70 days. Still struggling due to M.E., but I can feel benefits, and sense I have given myself another 13-15 years of life, presuming nothing else happens to me. Looking forward to back healing fatigue, so that I can feel true benefits of these fasts and the nutritional aids I have used. Real, deeper benefits of fasting come after almost a week, and this is when we can expunge any faecal matter that is encrusted in our colons and digestive system. It is vital to completely cleanse these areas, otherwise you are always going to be vulnerable to disease, and inefficient digestive and absorption processes, along with allergies and food intolerances. Author of Ph Miracle spoke of this too, and explains well why to do a week at least at some point. When you fast longer, you have to be much more careful in the reintroduction of food. I start with some psyllium husks first, for I have gone without them and used soup, and suffered badly with stomach ache, so use the psyllium if you go for longer fasts. along with 2-3 days of water melons. This is the art of fasting long periods, the art of coming off them, for this is when the body tells you it wants food, but too much too early can be dangerous, and it is the only real danger for almost all people.

@nialloneill5097
@nialloneill5097 2 роки тому
@@lydiachinyanganya2187 A rough guideline is that a Table spoon is used for a full glass of water. You don't need that much though, and when excess is left too long, if oft sets into a hard jelly. You can still take it as a gel, but better to have about a quarter of glass of water, and add a tea spoon for each use. I take this amount before anything I eat, and never an issue, although the longer the fast, the more minimal is the food size and type you can eat, If you look around on the web there are guidelines, which I think is one day for each week, you should just use psyllium and water melon. When I have done over one month, the stomach becomes very small, and that's when you have to be careful and patient. The psyllium is the best help there is, and soon as I feel stomach ache coming I run for it!!! Wish you well with that. Andrew Norton Webber has lots of material on fasting and distilled water by the way, and my last note is that the water we take is vital for our blood, which is the bridge for the soul. Organic vegetable juice is best water, as this contains organic minerals, due to process called iontophoresis, rather than inorganic which is hard on body and can collect in arteries and harden them, as well as stones. This can be topped up with distilled water extracted from a small cheap distiller for £150, see Amazon. Norman Walker has some very nice little books on these topics, and built the first juicer. He lived to 106, when most died by about 70 back then. SO SPEAKS FOR ITSELF WHAT TO DO!!!
