Fun fact: Columbo survived being shot 3 times during the attempted hit. 1 of the shots was in the head as depicted and left him paralyzed but had a slight recovery in being about to move a thumb and a finger as well as say a handful of words. He died 7 years after of cardiac arrest related to the shooting. The shooter was killed within seconds by Columbos bodyguards. Gallo was never convicted with the hit.

Don't forget that Profaci was no Gambino, Luciano or Genovese. He'd rather negotiate with Gallo because he was afraid of him. Don't forget Profaci promoted a relative to Capo when he was supposed to promote Gallo and give him the racket. Profaci was a greedy old bastard at the time, but he was scared of Gallo, a young hot-head. But then Profaci passed away and Magliocco fucked up by planning to kill Gambino & Lucchese with Bonanno so Gallo probably got a big pass and went to prison.

Dont forget Carlo Gambino and the other bosses told him to cut it out with the spot light. There's a very good chance that Gallo did know Jerome Johnson but the fact he's killed immediately it was easy for the other 4 families to blame Gallo considering he had to go anyway. It took the suspicion off of them. Thats why they call Gambino the fox and the Hawk.
