Fun fact: Columbo survived being shot 3 times during the attempted hit. 1 of the shots was in the head as depicted and left him paralyzed but had a slight recovery in being about to move a thumb and a finger as well as say a handful of words. He died 7 years after of cardiac arrest related to the shooting. The shooter was killed within seconds by Columbos bodyguards. Gallo was never convicted with the hit.

Another fun fact, Columbo crime family Caporegime Michael Franzese was present in the real event and saw the shooting. He was a young kid at the time. His dad was Sonny Franzese a Columbo family leader and at one point the oldest living made made man in the US. He died at 103 still a member.

@@pbh9195 I guess my biggest complaint would be deniro, an 80 year old guy playing a 38-39 year old mob enforcer was too hard to believe...the CGI and filters trying to make him look young was incredibly distracting...watching him kick the store owner was hard to watch, slow motion & an insult to the viewer...just my opinion - but other than that, I didn't mind it much, I actually liked them casting a few comedians, they did a good job

Such an incredible sequence in such a great movie. They did a fantastic job at capturing the confusion and insanity that would proceed a public assassination. At 2:02 in the back, you can see police trying to arrest a guy in blue who's immediately suspected as the shooter

I kinda admire Crazy Joe Gallo for his innovativeness and him being Wicked Cultured. While in the Gray Bar Hotel, he read books by Kafka and Tolstoy and other great European philosophers, made paintings, and was good friends with black kingpin Nicky Barnes. Don't forget that Profaci was no Gambino, Luciano or Genovese. He'd rather negotiate with Gallo because he was afraid of him. Don't forget Profaci promoted a relative to Capo when he was supposed to promote Gallo and give him the racket. Profaci was a greedy old bastard at the time, but he was scared of Gallo, a young hot-head. But then Profaci passed away and Magliocco fucked up by planning to kill Gambino & Lucchese with Bonanno so Gallo probably got a big pass and went to prison.

Dont forget Carlo Gambino and the other bosses told him to cut it out with the spot light. There's a very good chance that Gallo did know Jerome Johnson but the fact he's killed immediately it was easy for the other 4 families to blame Gallo considering he had to go anyway. It took the suspicion off of them. Thats why they call Gambino the fox and the Hawk.
