Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, a saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics. Now playing in theaters and on Netflix.

Joe Pesci is low key one of the best actors of all time. He’s just under appreciated because he hasn’t worked as much as his peers. He’s been the standout in every movie he’s been in and come out of a 20 year retirement to deliver a performance like did in The Irishman is nothing short of legendary.

In my opinion, I feel Joe Pesci did his best in “The Irishman”. Instead of playing a young, aggressive guy like we’ve seen in Goodfellas and Casino, Pesci is the feared, old, respected, and decision making leader. But overall, Al and Bob also did well in the “Irishman” also.

Russell Buffalino was known as the quiet Don by mob families. In reality a slow but powerful and well respected man in mafia circles, who never moved very quickly for anyone. He gave the orders in real life as mafia bosses do, but spent most of his time in his restaurant dipping italian bread in glasses of red wine.

Don't forget that Russell Buffalino pretty much told Frank that he put Frank into the plot to kill Hoffa to save his life. If he hadn't done that, Frank would have been killed also due to how close he was to Hoffa. When Russell told Frank that he and his wife would be okay because they were with Russell, that was also chilling.

Whenever Joe called him "kid", I raised my left eyebrow. Nothing that takes away from the experience, just a little nitpick.

How I wish Joe Pesci won his second Academy Award for this performance, everybody talked about how good Al Pacino was in this film, yeah don't get me wrong he was astonishing but Pesci's performance felt powerful on every single level. Especially the "Grape juice" scene in the Jail with De Niro was his Oscar Moment right there. The last 35 minutes of that film was heart-breaking to watch. I absolutely love this film, Scorsese never fails to amaze me. This will be his another future classic in the near future, its up there with his other films like Raging Bull, Goodfellas (of course), Taxi Driver, Casino, The Wolf Of Wall Street, Shutter Island, Silence (an Underrated Masterpiece), The Aviator and The Last Temptation of Christ.

The part where the showy mobster guy disrespects him for wearing the pin and Pesci gives that look to Deniro had the same ferocity, anger, and sadness that the Goodfellas scene had where he was told to get his shinebox. But somehow he captured all that emotion with just one look and silence instead of the crazy outburst from goodfellas. It was nuts. It was chilling. How do you even do that?

That line, "it's what it is" is so good! On the one hand, it conveys how much danger Hoffa is in but also it's funny how such a vague line is so grave.

I don't want to give anything away, but the best line in the movie is from Pesci when he says to Frank: "If they can......"

Even though I’m an Al fan, Joe takes the cake for this film. Even though Al’s performance as Jimmy Hoffa did so well in this film, Pesci’s performance as Russell blew me away. This is hands down Joe’s best performance, even being better than he was in Goodfellas.

Imo Joe was the best in The Irishman. His performance was better than that of his in Goodfellas. Pacino is my favourite actor of all time but I simply couldn't get over the brilliance of Pesci here.

Pesci's stoic portrayal is powerful, the stillness, the slow movement, the unspoken power that a look can elicit. This is something that only age and wisdom can bring on. Pesci is a master at it.

Not very often a person comes out of retirement to give the best performance of their career. What’s more incredible is it’s a quiet performance, not loud and swearing; his acting best scene is literally him sitting and watching two others have a conversation

I know some people might say its hyperbole just because of the cast and everyone has to be inclined to say it’s a great movie but I genuinely think it’s the best movie of the year and right up there with scorcese’s best, you can say goodfellas etc may be better but this is a classic. It slower than other Scorsese movies especially the aforementioned goodfellas but it’s like that in the first segment but genuinely, the acting and dialogue as well sudden moments within the movies are exceptionally executed, also who doesn’t love some 🍉, probably someone one who loves 🍨 a little too much

@sharkyh7327 4 роки тому
Nick Jones At the start it was a little weird but then it kinda went towards more the angle of Mafia type people don’t really move as much and a lot of times they act older than they are but Deniro at a young age was a little of-putting
