I am finally glad that somebody is recognizing the body of work that Lennox Lewis put forth and the résumé that he built during his boxing career I met him in Jamaica and he was one of the finest human beings I have ever encountered in my life he was so humble and so professional it’s hard to believe that inside of the ring that man was capable of that kind of damage.

The Vindicator Tyson 'a shell' June 6, 2002 at 12:00a.m. If this were the Mike Tyson of years ago, Emanuel Steward might be a little more worried. Steward, who trains Lennox Lewis, thinks Tyson is just a shell of the fighter he once was. Tyson is expected to be an underdog for the first time in his career when he meets Lewis for his heavyweight titles Saturday night at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tenn. “Everybody is holding on to that image of Mike Tyson of 12, 13 years ago,” Steward said. “They don’t want to let that go. Boxing: Lewis To Meet Bowe Saturday 18th June, 1994 00:02 LENNOX LEWIS is to defend his World Boxing Council heavyweight title against Riddick Bowe in Las Vegas between November and next May. Lewis will earn pounds 12m and Bowe nearly pounds 9m, according to the champion's financial backer, Pannos Eliades. Lewis showed a lot of class not attacking Oliver McCall in their rematch when McCall dropped his arms and had a nervous breakdown. I could see how the urge to avenge getting knocked out from McCall in their first fight may have made it tempting to try and KO McCall when he became vulnerable. Lewis however, had the perspecacity to realize that something wasn't right with McCall, and showed compassion in not attempting to throw a punch and merely allow the referee to caal the fight. Very class act, and deserving of being a Champion.
@MrVvulf
@MrVvulf 2 місяці тому
McCall's breakdown was likely a culmination of factors. The two primary ones being drugs, and the loss of his trainer (forced out by Don King). McCall had a very tight relationship with Manny Stewart, his trainer. Don King became worried that Stewart might advise McCall to drop Don King (as any good trainer SHOULD), and so he forced McCall to fire Stewart. Being at the fight without the man who trained him to be there pushed McCall over the edge, in my opinion.

sorry to interfere ,however I confirm that Lewis never ducked a fight .He had announced his retirement before the Vitali fight and wasn't even supposed to face him at all.Vitali (whom I consider another amazing champ ) was 6 years younger and in way better shape .It was a great close fight in which Lennox prevailed .Sometimes one shot can end a fight ,like it happened with Delahoya vs Hopkins etc.. That said lewis went out his comfort zone and postponed retirement to face the Great Vitali and once again proved to be the best .There hasn't been any rematch simply cause he retired from the sport and honestly I confidently say that Lewis would never withdraw or fear anyone ,he is a real fighter and warrior .We will never know if Vitali could have won the rematch what we know for sure is that Lewis did not avoid him for fear .

Greatest heavyweight since Ali - not just because he was a great boxer-puncher, but also because he avenged his KO losses. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to come back and decisively beat the person that put you down for a 10 count.

@@team3gaming749 They did spar mate. When Lennox and Tyson were 16 & 17 respectfully. There's interviews if you fourage. First two days Mike was battering Lennox. Last three days Lennox had worked him out and battered him back. Cus D'Amato was shouting. Don't let him do that to you Mike. You'll face him one day. Mike avoided Lennox if truth be known. They only fought because Mike was skint. It would of been a closer fight but Lennox would of prevailed. I believe anyway.

The perfect boxing physique. Natural strength, long reach, great movement and cast iron chin. Nice loose and fluid movement and a devastating left hook righthand combo. The more you look back at Lewis the more you realise how great he was. He was probably the best finisher too.

And a bright mind too. He is strategic, or if we were to give his training camp credit, he at the very least absorbs what his coaching staff is asking of him. Very great boxer.
