Dream rifle. Pumped you released this video. Beautiful rifle that is worth the money if you ask me. I think the aesthetic is important to point out, but I would also say it’s hard to find reliability sometimes. This is one of those rifles that you’ll never have to doubt the performance of. Congrats. I just finished up my budget build, Begara b14 ridge in 30-06 with razor lht and a sthealthy hunter optic/barrel cover. Now I’m working to save up for a nice rifle build like this later in life.

I shoot the proof MTR in 7mm rem mag and it’s hands down one of my favorite rifles to shoot. I’ve shot lots of hornady factory loads and load a 162eldx and 168 Berger VLD and all of them have grouped well under 3/4moa with the hand loads going 1/2moa and under!

The question I have, is it worth the coin.? When I can source an action, stock and barrel and have a gunsmith assemble the pieces. This is Serious question I priced out a rifle, With a proof barrel, a defiance action and AG stock and it was $3700 roughly. I believe the performance would be around the same caliber. I guess it’s a matter of weight and wages. Erik do your custom builds shoot just as good as the proof rifle ?
@erikvanwoerkom1896
@erikvanwoerkom1896 4 місяці тому
$3700 seems a little on the cheap side for those components TBH, but I guess it depends on what gun smith is putting it together for you! Your not wrong when you say "weights" and "wages". You'll notice in the video where I say when you have something lightweight your trading "backpackability" for some "shootability", but I will say for how lightweight this rifle is it shoots lights out, but comparing my custom builds to this ultralight custom rifle is different because those guns are 3-4 pounds heavier than this rifle. Do they shoot excellent? Yes! Does this shoot excellent? Yes! Which one would I rather pack on a sheep hunt? Def this one!

@@MuleyFreak that’s not the point. The point is that the proof name isn’t worth it either. Some of the best gunsmiths in the country don’t charge that much for a rifle. These rifles are still mass produced, they are not a real custom rifle
@MuleyFreak
@MuleyFreak 4 місяці тому
And my point is this...custom rifle builders push whatever barrels they can get quicker than a PROOF barrel so they can hurry and get the gun built and turn cash. Other barrels shoot good enough that they'll put their names behind them. Additionally, some custom rifle builders threw adults sized tantrums about PROOF's prefits and also decided to go a different direction as a result. You know as well as I do that the internet is 100% transparent and there will also be haters.
@Dave-cf2ng
@Dave-cf2ng 4 місяці тому
@@MuleyFreak proof barrels are not the best on the market. If we are being honest here you didn’t pay for that rifle and proof sent it to you to do a review. If they let you keep it then that’s fine, but proof rifles are still mass produced and not custom. I’ll take a rifle where I can sit down with the gunsmith and have it built to my specs. That’s a custom rifle, not buying it off their website.
@MuleyFreak
@MuleyFreak 4 місяці тому
I've been shooting PROOF barrels/rifles for the better part of 10+ years just an FYI. Other manufactures don't even come close to their production and thorough testing processes. Additionally, there's been plenty of other barrels companies approach us that would throw arguably more money at us to shoot their stuff, but we shoot PROOF because we believe in it and we support good companies and good people. We don't chase money and we certainly don't digest hate and or jealousy.

What I found with my ultralight, to get real tight groups, is to put a little natural down pressure on some forward part of the scope.. Just preloading the pod isn't enough.. I use a good break but, by putting my non-trigger finger hand on top of scope or out in front on the stock helps tighten the groups.. I do so with the intention to have a consistent pressure and tension.. 1000 ways to skin the cat...THe lightweight ones a a bit more jumpy though and muzzle flip control/consistency can be a high yield area to focus.. Nice riffle, brother!

Haha. There’s nothing wrong with supporting our 2A rights in the form of a Tikka - especially if they shoot well for you and you like them! @MuleyFreak
@MuleyFreak 4 місяці тому
I'm a huge fan of a rail and a partial fan of the atlas. I've used it for a lot of years, but I don't like the ease of use when you're proned out like I do say the Magpul 1911. As far as the bipod hurting that pretty stock I will have to check. I can't imagine it doing so. Lol. My .308 weighs 8.8 lbs with scope and ammo. I have less than 2 g's with everything. I can punch the center all day at 300 yards. Im.never shooting further than that, I will close the distance. Those higher velocity calibers shoot the barrel out much faster as well but not really a concern on a hunting rifle. But that build is over $10,000, unless a company is giving a person these items so they can promote it on a video or something it just doesn't make sense. Beautiful set up though i will say that.

From the sounds of it (300 yards) your rifle serves likely a much different purpose than this rifle will serve. We are comparing a Ferrari to a Mustang and their applications like your rifle and my rifle are completely different. I'm not saying you need to spend 10Gs to get a rifle that shoots either. I'm just saying they are completely different builds, tastes, and applications.

@@erikvanwoerkom1896 you can buy factory ammo with 195 and 180 and 175 for 7 mag. You can’t beat the 7 mag on factory offerings or ammo offerings. Or brass or materials to reload. Plus with the shorter freebore you can run more bullets than the 7 PRC. No offense but that round is a joke. Most and I mean most people shouldn’t hunt past 600 yards and 30-06, 7 mag both can smash an elk at those distances with decent loads but their full potential is much further. Not to mention way better bullets than hornady offers. A person shooting over 600 yards on an animal should not be using factory ammo to begin with. They should be reloading and getting the max accuracy and low SDs and low ES. The only thing it is going to do is force manufacturers to hurt the 7 mag sales. Which is just ridiculous for all the 7 mag users which is a lot of hunters. I personally run 2 7 mags. My buddy runs 3. Most people I know use 7 mags. The avg hunter hunts 300 yards and in. I am all for new cartridges when it’s needed. But didn’t care for the 300 PRC after I saw what a 300 win mag can do with a 245 EOL over 2800 fps with less powder than PRC. Now 6.5 PRC I like. We did not have a well established 6.5 magnum. Why haven’t they made a 25 PRC. Great caliber.

@@MuleyFreak Hey MF, I agree with you that comparing a fine custom rifle such as a TS customs rifle to the proof Tundra Ti is apples to oranges. However, not in the way you think it is. The Proof rifle is inferior in every way, except perhaps weight. Its $7300 price tag does not boast any impressive features. Your inability to customize the rifle makes it a high end low value off the shelf factory rifle. You honestly should have probably bought a gunwerks, and that is not something I can say I have ever recommended. Now, let’s get into the details. First this is a $7300 rifle WTF MF. (I know you got it free) Second, titanium does boast light weight performance, however, there are many premium action companies who won’t build on titanium due to its inability to handle higher pressures like its steel counter part with lightening cuts. Third, the fact it comes with swivel studs is laughable, what high end modern rifle lacks picatinny or arca of any kind? Fourth, carbon barrels are great for saving weight but I disagree that proof is the gold standard for any level of accuracy, check out any precision rifle related event. Fifth, you have a $7300 rifle with no muzzle device included. At this price point, I don’t see how you could recommend this rifle to anyone- it’s a fine rifle but not great. There are so many capable custom gunsmiths who could make a vastly superior rifle to a customer’s exacting specifications that would far exceed the proof rifle across the board with a savings north of $1500, muzzle break included and a bipod mounting system from this century. You are a tremendous hunter- however, you are doing a major disservice to your loyal fan base by recommending a clearly inferior product.

@MuleyFreak
@MuleyFreak 3 місяці тому
David, Erik here. How are you, brother? First off, I own more TS Customs rifle than probably Travis himself lol. Travis makes an incredible product, but as far as the apples and oranges comparison it's pretty simple. Travis doesn't make his own barrels, bottom metals, or actions currently. (PROOF doesn't make actions either). He started having some stocks made and fine stocks they are. With that said, there's my apples and comparing oranges comparison. Next item of business, I'm not recommending this rifle to all our fan base as it doesn't fit everybody's wants, needs, and budgets. With that said, imagine having your own custom rifle where you make your own barrels and stocks in house! Pretty incredible, really. Lastly, I wish it had an arca and or break too, but the brake is an easy fix and a smith can add an arca without much effort. Thanks for the compliment on my hunting abilities! Happy New Year!

@@MuleyFreakI’m doing well! Thanks for taking the time to make a thoughtful response. In the sense that Proof builds much of the rifle in house, I agree it is apples and oranges, I guess to me I more care about performance, and performance to value matrix. I have owned many proof barrels, and they have a definite performance edge over factory and semi custom options. Gunwerks has taken it up another notch or in house manufacturing but I don’t think they offer a good value either. Have a good one

Great rifle but that being said I am a hunter reloader and gun collector 60+ years and have a couple hundred rifles built over the years and have owned most of the high end custom guns and have found you can get a Fierce rifle that will shoot as good if not better then the Proof be as light for about $3,000. I know because I bought one for each of my 3 boys and they are as good as the custom builds I have owned for twice the amount! That’s not an Ultra light rifle! The new Howa is an ultra light at 4-5 pounds. Most people can’t afford to spend that kind of money on a rifle even if it is nice but at the end of the day can you justify that price? No! My ultra lights customs are half the price and outshoot that gun! Still a great rifle but would you buy if if you had to pay full price for it?

Fierce makes a good rifle! No disputing that! Their rifles also shoot really well too, but again, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Fierce isn't on the same level as far as craftsman ship goes IMHO. And I'll say this again - they make a solid product. It's just not the same caliber. It's like comparing a Ferrari vs a Corvette. I wouldn’t really call a 9.5lbs rifle ultra light weight. Ultra light gets thrown around way too much. Many manufacturers have sub 6 or even sub 5 lbs rifles now. Putting a 2+ lbs scope on there also defeats the purpose of the set up. Looks like a great rifle but far from ultra light weight.
