The Marvels starring Brie Larson opened to horrible reviews from both critics and audiences, and now to make things worse the Marvels opening weekend box office has been released and it is terrible. The Marvels only made $47 Million at the box making it officially the biggest flop in MCU history. This is now the latest in a number of movies to flop for Marvel and Disney in the last year, leaving us no choice but to wonder if the MCU is officially over, because at the moment it doesn't seem like Disney Marvel will be able to turn things around for the MCU anytime soon.

When it comes to Marvel Superhero movies, the audience are Marvel fans; not DEI representatives. You can have diveristy and inclusion without damaging the story, unlike what Disney delivers with the girl bossification and FORCED inclusion.

Next thing people are gonna blame Disney for the Alien Franchise, but none of the movies since Aliens were well received. People just like to bitch trying to sound more sophisticated than they really are. And let’s face it there hasn’t been much great writing since around late 90’s or early 2000’s. Loki S1 did that, Hawkeye, Thor L&T, She Hulk, etc. Personally I stopped caring about the MCU after they massacred Thor in L&T. They didn't shoot themselves in the foot; they systematically removed all of their limbs and then blew themselves up. They have had so many chances to right the ship. They have squandered some of the greatest franchises to ever exist. The executives in charge shouldn't be able to get a job flipping burgers when you consider how monumental the financial losses they've incurred are, yet these people haven't even been fired or moved to different projects. @paulschwanz
@paulschwanz 6 місяців тому
This isn't about Disney forgetting anything. They remember the hero's journey, but they are deliberately ignoring it. This is all about Disney buying into a certain way of seeing the world. Because of that buy-in, every single one of these female characters *has* to be a Mary Sue. From Disney's perspective, you *cannot* portray a female in a way that suggests she needs others, and you *certainly* cannot portray her in a way that suggests she needs anything whatsoever from a man. As long as you keep looking at Disney's movies from an entertainment perspective you will be perplexed by their choices, because Disney's goal is no longer to entertain, but to reeducate. And you *will* be reeducated.

One thing to remember about No Way Home that separates it is that, by and large, it's a Sony Spider-Man Universe movie, not an MCU movie. The story uses Doctor Strange to set the plot in motion, but then sidelines the character the entire time to focus on situations and characters specifically from the previous Sony standalone Spider-Man movies. Even Happy is given a heavily reduced presence . The ending also resets everything so they can quite literally pick up and have, say, Peter face Tom Hardy's Venom without connecting to the MCU at all..The animated Spiderverse films are doing the same thing. Spider-Man did fine running solo with Sony before there was an MCU (Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best comic book adaptations ever made) and the character will do just fine if the rest of the MCU crashes and burns.

You are totally correct on the Hero's journey being left out of the movies. Time travel is difficult to pull off in any movie, let alone in the MCU, it had to be done well without resorting to deus ex machina, which for the most part they did just fine. 7:43 don’t forget Vision. Wanda brought him back to life. Those memories are still alive in white vision. His body with his memories living in her world. But she goes bonkers trying to steal kids from another reality all while completely ignoring the one she “loves”. While he is dealing with his own sacrifice being a failure, losing his family, and also living in his old body with his old memories. She didn’t need no man, but her man needed her. She brought him back just to abandon him. They could have had her help vision or at least deal with the fact that he needs help too. And maybe have it end up where she could save her kids but had to choose between them. She could use up her magic instead to save them both. They already made it seem like she turned to dark magic to deal with her pain. They can disneyfy it into her getting clean. This way her character can “die off” (but still be available for future money grabs) and the MCU now has a reason for two more superheroes. They had so many good story lines they could have followed during the blip, especially with streaming. Actually develop characters during the series and use the movies to resolve multiple plots. Such a waste of billions of dollars and decades of trust.

Especially going from Evil Dead 1 to Evil Dead 2 to Army of Darkness, Ash goes from timid nerdy nobody who at first acts like a coward, then in the second movie grows into a strong character and gets more heroic, and in the third movie becomes complete Deadite slayer and charismatic and takes into action trying to not just worry about himself, but learns to help others and grows friendships with King Arthur and the rest of the supporting cast from medieval times that he meets. By the way, Evil Dead 2 has a great female protagonist with Anne Knowby who is an example of a strong female done right. Especially during the middle half of the second movie when Ash is possessed by the Deadites, and she temporarily takes over as the protagonist. Even the Evil Dead 2013 remake had a good final girl too.

The observation of us being drawn to characters due to their faults, and how they better themselves through their journey is right on point, and at the heart of why movies like this suck: women don’t see their faults as things to fix, overcome, or even address unless necessary. To these people, their “faults” are what make them “beautiful, strong, stunning, brave” etc. Their “faults” are why you have to accept them as they are. Why tf would they fix the things that enable them to demand their way, excoriate anyone who criticizes, and justify them never growing up?
