Isn't there a province in Spain called Galicia after the Gaels who lived there originally? They migrated to Britain then to Ireland and then to Scotland. They were also called the Scoti by the Romans. So the Scots came from Spain although their travels started even before that. As far as ethnicities go the peoples of Europe share most of the same ancestors in varying degrees. We tend to identify with one nation or another but I believe we are generally of mixed descent from all of them. You can do a DNA test and I guarantee that you will be surprised at what you discover.

My dad died on Wednesday 30th September he was 93years old from Manchester. He was a side drummer in the Cameron highlands in the war. He was still playing years later in the Whit-walks. His ashes will be scattered in Scotland even though he's an Englishman he love the place and the pipes and drums. Flowers of the forest and the Black Bear (return to barracks)will be played at his funeral. A much missed dad.

If you ever get the chance, come see the Edinburgh Tattoo live 😂🙌🏻💖 as I commented elsewhere, you fully appreciate it’s a war instrument when you’re in its vicinity! It vibrates the ground and air, so that it’s like standing an inch from a concert speaker! The enemy would feel us marching and the vibrations from the pipes from miles away 😝 If it were me, I’d turn around and RUN 😂💖🙌🏻

@@dominickbenincasa5043 I experienced the feeling the Scots must instill in the enemy. I, as a Company Sergeant Major of the - now sadly disbanded Royal Danish Marines Regt, were sent to "reinforce" the Scots during a NATO maneuvre in the mid 70s, and the orders given were simple: "Feex Baj'nets", "Banners Up", and the Flags rose above to low morning mist. Then - "Drums", and the typical sound of the Scottish drums started up - one at the time. Then the Order "Kill the Barstids" - and the chage started. When we came to the "enemy" positions, they were empty - the opponents wisely chose NOT to face the attack! I´m 73 years old now, and since long retired, but I SHALL NEVER FORGET!!

My first encounter with Scottish people was in Nova Scotia where we stopped at a farm to check out some milk cans outside. My wife wanted a couple to decorate. The farmer would not accept our money and gave us two. He later took us into his home to show us his hunting trophies one of which he bagged in his front yard. Entering Nova Scotia there was a Scottish piper welcoming us. Years later we visited Scotland and went to a pub in Inverness and partook of the Haggis after a Ceremony where I asked for more. It was delicious! From that day I thought of myself as a Scot loving their people, their pipes, their food and their traditions. My last name being Thomas I found there was a Campbell clan in Northern Germany where my father was born which reinforced my feelings for the Scots. Now living in Oregon I go to the Highland Games each year for sport, tradition and Cornish pies. incidentally my son, Stephen was born on Robert Burns birthday. "Scotland the Brave" is my favorite number on the pipes and it truly represents them.

michael wills yes, but I'm not disputing that her ancestors came from Hanover. Nor do i dispute that some royals were nazi sympathizers. But the Queen was driving army trucks while London was being bombed. And the royals kept Edward VIII in exile for his actions. Oh, and the Nazis blew her London home to smithereens. But totally pro German. Picts came from the continent. Should we brand Scots not native people of Britain because of their foreign ancestors? Are Scots responsible for the poverty and suffering of the French people because they were the bodyguards for the French monarchs? Because Scots have Norman blood because of good old King David, are they responsible for the Norman Invasions of Ireland? Oh, and let's not forget the kicker, that a great portion of lowland Scots people - myself included - who descend from Northumbrian Anglo-Saxon settlement. I've never identified with Germans/Nazis, but I'm interested in hearing about your theory for Nazi identity because of that Saxon blood. Your argument is absurd. Everyone has origins somewhere else, and it doesn't invalidate their identity.

wit ye talking about this is how scottish people actually are. we don't eat haggis we don't listen to bagpipes all the time only on occasions like the military tattoo or at weddings or funerals and scottish people are not nice were polite not nice we all hate our lives and we hate you too so don't get comfortable with us and as for what we do, do we eat donner kebabs and hoagies we listen to dj badboy or someone else and our culture is actually one of a lot of hate, bigotry and violence there isn't a increased amount of chance to be a victim of violence in a scottish city but if you are its more likely to be especially violent and our traditions are pretty old though but we only really do them on special occasions or national holidays like rabbie burns night or funerals or weddings

The piper in question was in fact, Colonel, the Lord Lovat’s personal piper of Number 4 Commando, 1st Special Service Brigade, & his name was Piper Bill Millin, who had then also landed together with Lovat & his Commandos on the ‘Queen-Red Sector’ Of ‘Sword Beach’ at Ouistreham, Normandy on 06th June 1944 - D-Day. Lovat, Millin & the Commandos then marched some 10 km inland to relieve the Paratroopers of D Company, the 6th Airborne Division, who had been the first Allied soldiers dropped into Normandy in the early hours of the 6th June & were commanded by Major John Howard, & who were then holding two bridges that they were assigned to capture from the Germans. During this March, Millin continued playing his pipes while doing so until they finally linked up with the Paras at the two bridges. The Paras, who had seized & were holding two bridges over both the Orne River at Bénouville (Later named “Pegasus Bridge after the emblem of the British Airborne Divisions) & another one at nearby Longueville over the adjacent Orne-Caen Canal (Afterwards called “Horsa Bridge” to commemorate the name of the glider vehicle that the Paras then had used in this operation), in order to prevent German Armoured & Infantry units’ counter attacks from easterly directions on the exposed & vulnerable flanks Of British & Canadian Forces then coming off Sword & Juno Beaches & moving inland from there. Later, according to reports from captured Waffen-SS & Wehrmacht prisoners during the fighting, Millin had lived a “charmed existence”, as the Germans were apparently convinced that he was completely mad & had actually nicknamed him, “Der Verrueckte Dudelsackpfeifer” (The Mad Bagpiper!) & basically left him alone, as he (Millin) was obviously unarmed & to their way of thinking, also short of something in the head!!
