His mention of needing stay squared away in order to preserve the integrity of the MOH in the face of temptations to do wrong things was very powerful to me. If anyone has the right to have a big ego it is Mr. Davis, yet, he takes the high road of Honor, Integrity and Humility. He inspires me to be a better man now that I've heard him tell his story.

I just met Mr. Davis at an airport. For some reason we kept running in to each other until I was ‘forced ‘ to have a conversation with him. I’m truly humbled by this man. I have not had this spirit of inspiration from another man in a long time. I’m not easily humbled, but I have not felt like such a boy in front of a real man in quite some time. God put our paths together for a reason, and I will never forget Sammy.

Love how he says “so I started doing my job as a soldier.” Instead of saying “so I started shooting mfs”. This guy is nothing short of amazing.

Sammy Davis was at my grandfather's funeral today, him and my grandfather fought in the war with eachother , I'm glad that I got to meet him 🇺🇲

The way this young man (at the time) was able to retain battlefield awareness in such a chaotic situation, injured surrounded by enemies, with bullets flying everywhere is incredible. He was an artillery man, a rifleman, a machine gunner, a medic, and a rescue operator all rolled into one. All done while sustaining injuries that would've incapacitated a normal person. God was watching over this hero.

I am massive history buff. Everything from the war in Afghanistan to the viking conquest of england to alexander the great. Nothing and i mean nothing has ever moved me like this film. PFC Sammy Davis arrived in Vietnam a couple months after I arrived, having transited the Pacific Ocean by Navy troop ship. I wasn't close enough to hear the explosions at the ammo dump but remember the reports vividly. This interview, telling of the events of that night down along the Mekong, is one of the most incredible stories I have ever heard. Here is a man, not just a perfect example of what a soldier can be but, even more so, a wonderful American human being. I salute him!

This man is the definition of "Humble". My Dad was a Corpsman in Vietnam, received the silver star, and never talked about it, but when asked about his time, he would say the exact same thing, "I was just doing my job". Mr. Davis is neighbor of mine, that is to say he lives not over two miles from me in SW Central Indiana in the country. I met him and his wife once at a local Cracker Barrel. You have to be in awe of a fellow like this and just wish and hope that there are more out there just like him.

My day has changed. So has my mind. Mr Davis made difference the day he did his job in Vietnam,. November 18th 1967, and he's made a difference again today, January 2 2022, by reminding me about love and spirit. We all face a battle of sorts in life. We don't lose until we give up.

Wow! I almost passed on this video because of the length of it. So glad I watched every second of it. This man is a true hero and yet, he says he was simply doing his job. I am thankful for every one of our soldiers who gave so much for our freedom.

The most amazing man I have ever met, humble, honest and above all rest loyal.. it gave me chills when he said he was trained to get the MOH but knew nothing about receiving. They don’t make them like that anymore. I can’t even begin to imagine the scope of what he saw and not once did I hear him say how scared he was but heard him say throughout this riveting interview was how he Loved his brothers in arms with no care for himself but keeping them alive was his motivation to keep going. I met this gentleman at the wall.. I was in an honor guard at a ceremony and he was an invited speaker. A genuine humble and caring man. Spoke softly and was interested all of the rest of us in uniform. I am proud to have shaken his hand and hope that some of what he his rubbed off on me. I met the man when I was just 15. I heard him and his wife (an equally amazing person) tell this and other stories. He told of why he joined, the patriotism he felt, and how much it pained him that they had no public support. He then played "Shenandoah" on the harmonica- to this day one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard Situations don't create heroes- but they do expose them. Sammy davis is an ordinary man, who's experience has exposed extraordinary heart.

In my life I have had the distinct honor of personally knowing five Medal of Honor recipients. I have not met Sammy L. Davis, MOH but I would love to...just to say to him, which he would discount, that he is a hero of heroes...not just for the actions in battle, but for being the kind, soft spoken, genuine, loving man among men that he is. I did my OSUT training at Fort Sill as a 13B Artillery soldier in 2005. I remember seeing Sammy's plaque and that he was a MOH recipient as an Artillery soldier but didn't know much about his citation for his actions. Years later after I did my own tour in Iraq and was discharged I came across this interview and instantly recognized his face from that plaque. I've watched this interview at least 10 times. Sammy is such a humble man and the way he tells this story of him and all his Artillery brothers brought me to tears. What a great man

This man was a 'recipient' of the Medal of Honor because he truly 'earned' it by doing his job. His story is truly captivating and because he was nominated for the Medal of Honor by his fellow brothers-in-arms says it all. The idea that the video starts with his expressing that he understands the difference between those that oppose a war and those that oppose a warrior points out that he received the Medal of Honor because of his deeds and NOT because of his military rank or social status. He is a gentleman's gentleman. Period.

When I was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, In in the late 1980s. I saw him speak at several VFW, American legion halls. He was always polite and a model soldier even though he was no longer active duty. It was an honor to shake his hand and salute him and the Medal of Honor. He would always tell what he did to earn the M.oH.. He saved many lives while risking his own while under fire as I recall

I believe back in 2012, or 2013 I flew from Indianapolis to Louisiana thru Dallas. Mr Davis and his wife was on that flight. The pilot that we had announce a Medal of Honor winner on the flight. Being a retired Military myself I knew what that meant. Evidently he was going to Dallas for a Medal of Honor Conference. I was able to met him briefly in the terminal in Dallas. What a humbling experience for me. Not everybody will get this decoration in their career. What an honor for me! Thank you Sammy.

Tears in my eyes while you recited your acts of Heroism. Our Dad was in Luzon, building bridges, airstrips and Yes, guarding Ammo. After WWII he served as Civilian in the Polaris Sub Program at Mare Island, Maritime Machinist and in Planning and Estimating. Built lots of Nuke Subs.He also was one of the very few Civilians ever to be assigned to Nuclear Power School, received a Commendation Medal by the Naval Commander: 4-Star Gen. Hyman Rickover. Dad had a coronary on the job from relentless 12 hour days/and weeks.This was his 20th year of Nuclear Polaris Submarine production. He was put on immediate Medical Retirement. His "superior" didn't like him because he didn't "join in the reindeer games", drinking, smoking or carousing after hours. We are all LDS Elders. When Admiral Rickover came to present the Medal, "boss" said, "I will get it to him". Rickover said, No, I will wait here, since you said he would be here, Right? Yes, Max R. Stephensen received his Medal from Admiral Rickover, personally. Sorry to be long-winded here, but Dad was a true Patriot who was proud of his work for the United States Navy and that all 3 of his sons followed his Lead. It took 4 guys to take over his job. Passed on at age 93, in Mesa, AZ. about 6 years ago. My Twin and I served in USAF 1971 at Langley (Intel) in support of the 9th TIS, and our older bro, across the river at Norfolk Naval Air Station. We are from Vallejo, just north of Stockton. We lost 2 Pilots in our family. Maj. Mont Stephensen, B-26 Pilot over Germany WWII, and LT.Col. Mark Stephensen, RF4D Pilot, down over the DMZ in Nam. The Riverton, UT Post Office was christened the Mark & Mont Memorial Post Office in their Honor. It took 18 years to reclaim Mark's remains from the Vietnamese. HIS wife, Vickie Stephensen performed countless hours of service to The Nation in support of THE MIA-POW Organization continuously until she passed recently. She had resided at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. Thank you Sammy for your PROUD AND HEROIC SERVICE. GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY! Our family absolutely LOVED serving. Our Nephew, CPO Stephen Stephensen is a Combat Instructor at Camp Williams, UT a Zillion tours abroad as a Marksman. Proud to be True Patriots, ALL!! !! !!
