I'm not American, but stories like this makes me ashamed to be a White man. How can anyone do something like this to another human being, let alone a child. It makes me sick to my stomach just imagining what both Willie and his dad went through during those final few minutes of Willie's life. Why is skin colour so important to so many people. We are all just human beings trying to figure out our way in this crazy world of ours. We should be loving, caring and helping one another instead of trying to destroy one another. I hate racism and we need to do everything in our power to fight against it.

I am a black woman (21 years old 10/08/2002), I got chills reading this and I am so touched and grateful there are people who think this way❤ I never really looked at race as a real thing until I got older in my teenage years and realized a lot of things like stereotypes and I never really fit in with any of them so I got teased a lot but it actually is great for me because I make a lot of cool friendships especially with white older men because they have so much knowledge and most are really nice and willing to teach.. but I'm glad to hear there are people very much against racism 🙏🏾

I think the narrator makes a huge error towards the end. Racism still absolutely exists and implying that it doesn’t because we like to “celebrate diversity” now is harmful. I’m not sure who the intended audience is that this channel makes videos for, I’ve thought a few times in the past the phrasing is weird and doesn’t fit the topic, but believing that the world has done a complete turn around since 1944 is unfortunately, not true :/

@Catty200100. THANK YOU 4 saying so! This type of happily-ever-after storytelling is the reason US-concept history is deeply, deeply-deceptive & is incorrectly taught. HAD the power system & dynamic of Racism/WS been abolished, done away-with, eliminated sufficiently to evince Justice-in practice-one could reasonably conclude that people, that the society had “evolved” as this narrator eagerly claims. Regretfully, that is not the case & many, many more Willie Howards have been the Result of sweeping harsh realities under the rug in favor of impressing people falsely-especially, the young who do not know what they can expect, & have no realistic references whatsoever as to why. Had a correct and accurate historical curriculum been developed, there would be no need to attempt to tell the story now, with a clean-up job exonerating the killers, law enforcement, & the “community” of Floridians who never cared one way or the other, as long as they continually receive the presumption of innocence themselves. The true historical data is a WHOLE LOT murkier and fuller of human aberration than this sole incident. The decision & the habitual practice of reciting R/WS as incidental & as happenstance is deliberately deceptive, & is designed to ensure that it continues with impunity. It gives individuals a warped idea that only in such conflagrations as judicial or extra-judicial killings can racism be detected, proven, then looked at for what it is NOT: “some isolated accident.” It’s a system. Until it is accurately stated, presented, & dismantled as such, it will be strengthened, nobody will “evolve,” & its deadly calculus will continue along in Ignorance, just as it has for hundreds of years. ⚖️🇺🇸🕯⚖️

You know, reading this makes me very sad for the world today. Because man thinks he's a GOD , but his is far, far from that ! He's only a king in his own mind! And that is so sad. But they'll have to stand before GOD and tell the creator how Their plan was better than HIS ! And if that’s so , then why are they trying to ERASE the history of all the evils that they have done through the history of the world.....remember (WE never wrote those books..."We couldn't read or write, and were Killed if caught trying to learn .....So, they wrote about their own pass and don't want the white kids today to know what they really did back then and TODAY...... OWN UP TO IT....."YOU WERE PROUD OF IT BACK THEN ! AND LET THE CHILDREN of TODAY know your true background and the forefathers' bad ways! And find out why racism Exsit today and why they are trying to remove the black history out of schools! Let the children read and make up their OWN MINDS????????

Well as a white man listening to the narrators words. I truly believe that the 3 white men are guilty of murder, kidnapping, assault, reckless use of a firearm, disregard for human life, willful misconduct and a few more. This is a case that should be reopened and the 3 men should be held accountable. Even if they have all passed. Their reputation can still be held accountable. This is my take on what i heard here. I'm sure if I could see actual evidence I would still keep my opinion and most likely add a few more charges. What a pathetic way of life back then. 😢

a dangous future. In Germany the children, student's, are more educated than any student in the world, on the Holocaust. For that reason, it's a constant reminder of what route to not take. In America, that is not the case. Many think it's the past and therefore belong in the past, "I wasn't born then, I wasn't involved". Dangerous future for African Americans, especially given their social state. I'm betting in some way, the past is going to repeat itself on some level.

This is why we need to talk about all of our history, not cherry picked feel good stories sanitized to make things look rosy. To keep anything like this from ever happening again, it is especially important to talk about the reality of history. Racism was, and is, a part of history and shouldn't be ignored. What I learned in school about American history vs what I have learned since are two radically different things, and that is not OK. We should be ashamed of what we call teaching history.

No it does not, it is only going to cause outrage. Injustice has existed in America for a long time, there's no need to remind everyone about it so vividly through cinema. Should this case be reported to the masses, absolutely but reinvisioned and relived, absolutely not. The masses should be informed but not shown the details of this case, it would enrage people. This is why I could not watch the Emmett Till movie and never will, I see no reason in reliving that attrocity it would only piss me off. However, I did watch many stations report on this story and describe what ocurred but I don't want to actually see how they did that innocent child, there's just a difference.

Who’s still angry?? Let’s see, the “power” that the KKK had has diminished quite significantly since the 50s. In fact, their membership has diminished significantly since the 50s. Yet, the Supreme Jackass, who is in the White House, has admitted that Robert Byrd, and Strom Thurmond were his friends and mentors. Both Byrd, and Thurmond absolutely hated black people. Yet, Biden can say “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you’re not black,” and that’s perfectly acceptable, right? Yet, President Trump was, still is, asked to denounce white supremacy organizations more than 16 times, and he did, and continues to do, but he’s racist. I read your comment, and you’re absolutely right, Black Americans have come a long way since slavery was abolished, but there are many that’ll continue to claim that they’re being oppressed, and your comment just obliterated that. I just don’t understand how ANYONE can think that they’re oppressed, here in America, when they can be whatever they want. They can be doctors, lawyers, athletes, judges, actors/actresses, police officers, teachers, business owners, entrepreneurs, engineers, politicians, and the list goes on and on. Nobody is preventing them from achieving their goal, or dream. The only one that IS preventing them from achieving their goal or dream, are themselves! Period! Unfortunately, there’s still slavery going on all over the world. I honestly don’t know if that’ll ever stop, but I can only hope and pray that it does.

I truly do not think Willie’s father could save his son, it’s much easier to say it. Back then (according to my grandparents who are only 76), the intimidation was enough. I don’t understand how people can HATE people it doesn’t matter what color people are what counts is on the inside of people. So I wonder if the tables were turned on those men would they like what happened to Willie done to each of them??? As a child I was close to a lady named Miss Catherine and she was a wonderful older black lady and I was born white and I was taught to treat my elders with the utmost respect, and it didn’t matter what color race gender they were, and if I didn’t treat them with the utmost respect, I would get it when I got home as a child…Plus we always had black dogs growing up until I got on social media I never ever knew that black animals were treated differently and when any animal is born differently nobody wants them and that’s so very sad because they look 👀 different on the outside but they are the same on the inside…I was told that I don’t judge anyone and I treat people all the same; I guess it’s because I grew up around blind people of all ages and I never ever saw them differently and they were really fun to be around with and on trips too…So please don’t judge a book by its cover. Have a wonderful day 😊

And this is the history that we are supposed to forget and move on from. We are the only race of people told to forget about our history even though some these atrocities happened not even 60 years ago. This story is similar to emmett Till ...the women who got him killed CAROLYN just DIED!!..Her and CYNTHIA got to live out their lives while being minimally bothered by what they did. They were still able to live out the rest of her lives. They both KILLED the last line of a generation. Both were men and only children so when their parents died that was it of that lineage. Does anyone get the magnitude of what a parent must feel like to have your child stripped from you and watch them being killed.. Thank you for telling this story....

Sadly Willie's father was of the previous generation. Thus he was witness to even harsher punishments meted out to black people, than Willie would have witnessed during his short life. These experiences would have taught Willie's father not to intervene or he would have suffered a worse fate. It's so hard to believe people could have been so cruel to their neighbours, employees, though we have to remember this was also the era of the Nazis, who at this time in Europe were murdering millions of people based on their race alone. Has the world become a safer place for people who are different from WASP's, sadly not. Even after lessons were learnt, supposedly, we still have people being treated differently because of their skin colour, their religion and or sexual orientation. We, even today have still got collective punishment being meted out to huge numbers of innocent people in the midst of wars. The memories of evil deeds are too short to allow real human growth and improvement in the lives those most vulnerable in society. Shameful.

I grew up in South Florida and I can tell you that racism was rampant even into the early 70's. My mother took me to a park in West Palm Beach that still had black/white water fountains in the early 60's. I did not understand what it meant at the time because I attended a school that was not segregated. I was not taught to treat people of color differently than white people. It was not until I was older that I finally realized what a terribly cruel world it was for people of color to have to navigate, especially in the "Good ole boy" mentality of the deep south. I can't imagine the fear African American parents must have had raising children in those days.

This is a very sad story but he knew she was upset the first time and didn't want to be bothered. The year 1944 was a very difficult time. And although he shouldn't have been murdered for it, he should've just left it and her alone. 😢

I agree. I can’t believe he was unaware of the risk involved with writing unwanted letters to a white girl. He was from the deep South. He was just a child and maybe he didn’t think it through but I sure wish he had. He was a beautiful boy and seemed like a nice person.

@@sayitloudblcknproud during that time, watching or knowing about a hanging was normal. He knew better unless he truly didn't. 🙄

Did you not hear the explanation in the video? Why are you blaming the victim? Wow you people are truly sad

@@PBLKWthat's ur problem. That person that made the video wasn't even there.😂 So no matter how they present this, that man was still wrong! He was stalking that chick! She wanted to be left alone but he insisted! Can you not read between lines?

@@PBLKW she wanted to be left alone but he insisted with them letters! And if you operate in the same energy as him then you don't understand boundaries either and I feel sorry for your community and your family! People always try to throw that color into an argument when the fact of the matter is in this case that was one of the second reasons why she didn't want to talk to him back in those days! He knew that and he continued on without a doubt! And I'm not going to feel sorry for anyone who doesn't understand the word NO!

I’ve never heard of this story until now. That is the main reason why it’s so important to have African-American history told in our classrooms. So history will never ever ever repeats itself.

As a black person living in Canada I have come to understand what Racism is and how to cropped with it. Racism is every way and it will never go away. I face it every day of my life at my Work, Grocery Store, on the Bus and any were I shop. Willie Howard is just one example of the cruelty from one Human to another. Thanks for the post.
