The Wild West Extravaganza

23 дні тому

Today, we’ll follow the Lewis and Clark Expedition as they return to civilization. We’ll also discuss the lives of a few key figures post-expedition. Whatever happened to Sacagawea? Is it true she lived to be an old woman? What about her son, Pomp? How about George Drouillard? Finally, we’ll examine the mysterious death of Captain Meriwether Lewis. #wildwest #history #ushistory

Thanks for recommending Undaunted Courage, as a huge L&C nerd I’ve really been loving it. And idk about the true fate of Sacagawea, but I did take the opportunity to visit the grave, real or not, when passing through the Wind River Reservation years ago, just on the off chance that telling is the truth. What an amazing woman. The L&C Expedition is one of America’s greatest stories, if not the actual greatest. Totally fascinating, thanks for the episodes.

Josh is Certainly No Slouch at this job. The amazing thing is that he's a Historian who is Completely "Self taught", and I daresay he'd Lay lots of "Real Historians", with degrees and credentials longer than Both Arms, In The Shade, Easily. Disregard his Knowledge, Talent and Ability, at your Peril. I consider myself a Shade Tree Historian(Only about people and subjects that interest me) who is pretty Savvy about certain Old Folks In History, at Certain Times, but when Josh deals with these times and people I Very Rarely leave without having learned more than one bit of knowledge that I had overlooked, Ignored, or simply Did Not Know. That's why I look forward to his New Talks/Broadcasts/Vlogs/Blogs/Whatever

Imho. Meriwether Lewis killed himself. It was noted by Jefferson that he had "depressions of the mind". It ran in the family, Lewis's father suffered the same thing and he had a brother committed to a mental institution. I am thinking Manic Depressive/BiPolar. Super intelligent and capable one minute then sitting in a corner not able to get up the next. The drugs and alcohol didn't help. I know he was stressed about debt and not getting the journals done in time.

I had a horse that lost footing and went down with me on his back. While moving cattle across the Oyhee River one time it was a cold day. I was soaked to the bone, a couple miles from the ranch. It was a life or death situation for sure. I built a fire as soon as I got across the river and stripped my clothes off and hung them up set my saddle close enough for it to dry out. After about an hour or so my stuff was dry I saddled up and continued moving the cattle to the winter pasture. Best part of the story is that I am alive to laugh about today

Meriwether lewis and Kermit Roosevelt had something in common other than suicide. Both men had mental problems but both of them kept it together when it really mattered. Lewis with the Corp of Discovery and Roosevelt when his Father, Teddy was extremely sick with infection when they both traveled and were lost in the Amazon jungle. A great read is the book “River of doubt”

Mercury poisoning can be horrific. I am not sure if the symptoms are the same but a scientist was poisoned when a drop of a form of mercury that bypasses gloves skin etcetera planted on her glove. At first she was fine but over the next few months she kept experiencing worse and worse neurological disorders. Can you please control of her body lose the ability to walk to have migraines and see white flashes. When they figured out what it was they tried to treat her and removed the Mercury but there was too much and it was already in her brain. So over the next couple of months basically her brain says short-circuited more and more. At the end she wouldn't have been her really as her entire brain short-circuited. She'd have just seen static or random colors but you wouldn't have really seen it because her optical cortex wouldn't have functioned anymore the same with her hearing. Other than dying of extreme radiation exposure it's the most horrific death I can think of. A brilliant man whose mind literally started short-circuiting
