It has been 17 years since dad left us, I tried to remain strong all these years for mom but now, as I grow older, I feel like I get more emotional when seeing other people with their fathers or listening songs like this one. this song has helped me a lot actually with the hatred and jealousy i get from just seeing fathers having a happy moment with their kid. When I was younger my father was EXTREMELY abusive to my mother, physical and mentally but he was sweet to me and my brother and loved us. But one day when I was around 5 years old and he malested me. I remember everything. That day changed everything, he wasn't ever present and didn't try to fight for us. 2 years ago he killed himself and I know this sounds bad but I'm a little relieved. I can finally feel safe away from him.

Man, ive never heard this before and it wrenched my heart out. My dad wasn't there though i know he wanted to be. He was on meth, and opiates, and a bad alcoholic. Recently he got out of jail for meth production only to find out he has liver cancer. When he died, i never really had anyone before that i was close to that died. Id wake up already crying, it was like someone ripped out my soul. We both have been through so much, and he's the only person I've ever known who made sense to me, that i understood, even if he was less than useless as a parent. He was like a twin spirit. I made sense, knowing his soul. I'm sorry we never got it right, daddy. I understand why you were the way you were, and I'm not mad anymore. I hope you're resting peacefully.
