Invented by Lovecraft in 1928 as apparently suggested by Lovecraft himself at the end of his 1923 tale "The Rats in the Walls". The book has a colt around Cthulhu just because the cult wanted him to rule the world again because they believed the world was in peril from all the struggles of man.

Cthulhu was created by H.P Lovecraft in 1928 (before Godzilla) in the short story ‘The Call of Cthulhu’. He’s an alien referred to as a Great Old One who is in an eternal sleep in the sunken city of R’lyeh. Lovecraft wrote a bunch of science fiction horror stories and created a bunch of monsters. Other cool monsters from Lovecraft are - the colour out of space - Nyarlathotep - the elder things

It was created by H.P. Lovecraft who specialised I horror story based to use the fear of the unknown ( he had a fear of the deep oceans which gave a lot of his works a fish theme for most of his creatures)

The Cthulhu mythos was created by H. P. Lovecraft in the 1920s and deliberately left as an 'open license' sort of situation. He did not trademark or copyright it as he wanted to encourage other authors to utilise elements of his setting and mythos and develop it further themselves.

As a Godzilla fan I'll answer your question. So king kong was invented in 1939 thats when the first monsterverse sort of movie then in 1954 the first Godzilla movie was made (Gojira) so King Kong came first (also the monster with sirens on it's head is called Siren Head)!

It was H.P Lovecraft that made up Cthulhu, so unlike things like Slenderman or Sirenhead, this thing isn't some creepy pasta, it's part of the books he wrote about ancient interstellar creatures. I think Cthulhu is like one of the top dog demons in these stories, or something like that, I'm not 100% sure. Most things I know about him are from that one south park episode about the DP oil disaster from 2009, lol.
