I could answer with geo political reasons (who were the terrorists? yes, I've noticed many similarities between Siberians, indigenous and ethnic groups of Russia, and indigenous peoples in North and South America. I will try to research this myself as well but it would be so cool If Eli would also make a video about this.

The Siberian migration to North America happened 11,000 years ago and before, when there was an ice age. The Bering Sea between eastern Asia and Alaska was connected, so people could simply walk over to North America on the land bridge created by lowered seas, and lots of ice and snow. Oleg Balanovsky and Valery Ilyinsky have established that the earliest of these migrations happened 23,000 years ago. A lot of the people came from the Altai region (west of Mongolia) as discerned by DNA tracing analysis, and when they were passing through Siberia they could be called Siberians. Also the Polynesians sailed from the islands of southeast Asia eastward. Their learned old people had the sky, stars, and horizon memorized. This was very complicated to do because the paths of the stars change throughout the year. So instead of telling direction by 360 degrees around the compass, they had memorized, for different times of year, the stars and their rising and setting places on the horizon. All that was their version of degrees of navigation direction along the horizon. Once a person got old and experienced enough to do that, he could be the navigator for large canoes and take his tribesmen on journeys for hundreds and then thousands of miles across the Pacific. But you had to know the exact angle to get from one little island to another. If you were off by a few degrees remembering where a particular star rises and sets this time of year, sayonara and you don't get a second chance unless you can catch enough fish. But even then you might die of thirst if you can't find the proper island and come ashore for fresh water. Not a lot of plastic bottles in those days, and your canoe can carry only so much for what has to be island hopping centuries ago. Even New Zealand wasn't inhabited until the early 1300's even though aborigines discovered Australia over 50,000 years ago. The difference is that Australia was easier to find and reach due to all the interconnecting little islands. New Zealand was a much bigger leap literally and mentally. Ancient travellers headed more directly eastward. Centuries ago, the Polynesians definitely got as far east as Easter Island, and it became the only original Polynesian society to develop a system of writing. They undoubtedly went further to the east and landed on the coast of South America. But with the Incas and related tribes already established the Polynesians didn't stand a chance other than a little bit of one-to-one breeding activity before angered warriors killed off the invaders. The Araucanos for example were so fierce even the Spaniards never conquered them, and even in modern times they kill occasional interlopers who violate their territory. It took until the later 1800's for the Chileans to push them onto reservations. Jivaros in the Amazon are real-life headhunters who actually cut off and preserve as trophies the shrunken heads of their enemies, or claim to have quit doing so recently. On the other hand, many of the natives in Central America look exactly like modern Vietnamese, so the ancient tribes of Central America (being smaller and less organized) were more of an opportunity for settlement from Polynesia to mix in with the people who had come earlier from the north. Some of the Polynesians became simply Siberians and Yakutians and Chukchians who headed south instead of north, ending up in Honduras and nearby regions.

Not a lot, Yakutians and North American indians indeed but Mexican, Central American and South American Indians have very little to do culturally if at all with Yakutians even if they might share distant DNA relations. But so do Spanish and Russians and that doesnt mean they are close culturally.

Like the old Russian proverb says, "Every pirate loves the smell of his own farts." The guy was born and raised there, so of course he loves the water. Humans are hard-wired to have territorial loves and affinities that go to where they originated. Not just their water, but their culture, dances, language, food, religion, weather, vegetation, and daily habits. People with happy childhoods tend to like to return to them, and doing so is in our genes. Like salmon returning to their ancestral spawning grounds from hundreds of miles away in the ocean. If he had been born and raised somewhere else, that is the water he would love. Now his water may be better than the water where you or I live, but that doesn't make his personal life water better than the next guy's. It's just a jingoistic chauvinistic attitude that is hard-wired into people's way of thinking, and it leads in extreme cases to the philosophy of "I am better than you" and the extensions that gave the world Nazis and similar types. He isn't that haughty, but such attitudes put people on that spectrum and can lead to the "my way is best" syndrome. Which leads to wars and lesser misfortunes. Education on the other hand, including travel with an open mind, tends to train people to be more open, more tolerant, and less inclined toward getting a fixation on "my way is best because it's my way." He has mountain stream water. Good. There are lots of mountain stream waters, and many of them are probably as good if not better. And in all of them, just in case, it pays to be on the lookout for pestilences like Giardia and amoebic dysentery. Even in higher mountains such as the Himalayas. Remember all those little crypt houses in the cemetery necropolis, where people died of cholera? Cholera gets spread in the water, and habitually is one of the problems in Ossetia and even higher places like Nepal. It may look good, and it may taste good, and it may smell good. But that is not a guarantee that the water will actually be good and not kill you with a devastating organism like the cholera bacteria. Further, a person can be habituated to their own wonderful water but get dysentery if they travel. And vice versa. A girl I knew in college went to India and got horrible dysentery, then her intestines learned to tolerate the local amoebas and all was well. But she was switched over, so when she came back to the United States a year later she got horrible United States dysentery that her system had forgotten to resist. When I went to South America I warned one of my friends to be careful about the water. The know-it-all's attitude was: "I'm from here, so I have nothing to worry about." Yeah, and she sat on the porcelain throne for 8-10 hours a day for the first week because she thought she was immune. She didn't recognize she had habituated to United States amoebas while losing her resistance to South American amoebas. And it kind of complicated getting ready for her own wedding ceremony. She was lucky it wasn't cholera, which can easily be fatal due to losing 5 gallons a day of diarrhea fluids and the sodium and potassium that leaves dissolved in the 5 gallons. Another one to watch out for is typhoid fever, especially on local fruits and vegetables. A little soaking in dilute Clorox with a spot of detergent (to break water surface tension) is good insurance against Montezuma's Revenge anywhere in the world. I didn't get into trouble in Latin America probably because I had zero raw water exposure the first day, a drop the second day, then partial teaspoons and then a tablespoon until I could handle the local water just fine after a week of playing careful. Travel entails certain precautions or else you may have to pay an unpleasant price. With intestinal maladies and a thousand other things.

He told me back then that embassy recommended them not to visit Chechnya or Ingushetia since they do not guarantee safety or help there. I guess in 2023 embassy does not recommend visiting Russia at all. But you are going to be more than welcomed by local folk.

For me it would be a quite difficult decision, were I would like to live. Kamschatka, Caucasus, Perm region, Krim or Lake Baykal are some of my favourite regions.

Some Russian media, youtubers included, reinforce this opinion on criminality and a place being dangerous. For example I saw recently Perm being classed as one of the worst places in Russia but if I’m not mistaken that’s Eli’s home and it seems very normal in her videos.

Looking up the weather it has a daily mean of about -1 degree Celsius in winter which makes it far more pleasant to live than a lot of Russian areas where you have to deal with something like -10. It also seems to get a decent amount of rain which also makes a place more livable in my opinion.

Later, they push into Europe and all but wipe out the indigenous population there; the Basques are _possibly_ the only remnant, except for DNA in modern populations particularly mitochondrial 4. Around this time there is another migration to what is now Iran. The Medes for example, who eventually brought down the Neo-Assyrian Empire 5. For the region you are referring to we're talking about late antiquity. A tribe called the Alans, which is their word for "Aryans". They war with everyone from the Romans to the Turks (who gave them hell), but ultimately settled in Ossetia and their descendants remain there today. This is what I was talking about I left some things out because this is already a long freaking post. The Aryan migration to the Indian subcontinent for example, which brought Sanskrit. Anyway, you're free to dispute if you'd like but the data is all there from centuries of archeology, linguistics, and genetic studies. Когда граф Павел Потемкин в 1785 году стал генерал-губернатором Кавказского наместничества, он прислал светлейшему графу Григорию Потемкину бутылки с алутоном - осетинским пивом (осет. бæгæны). Светлейшему напиток понравился настолько, что он решил варить его в Санкт-Петербурге. Из Осетии доставили ингредиенты и мастеров, но те не смогли сварить такой же вкусный напиток. Не хватало какого-то ингредиента. Рецепт алутона восходит по мнению специалистов к I веку нашей эры и исходят из аланской среды Алутон как три пирога обязательно присутствует на каждом осетинском застолье. Считается, что настоящий алутон можно приготовить только из талой воды. Поэтому, и не получилось у Потёмкина сварить такой же вкусный алутон как в Осетии. Также, все попытки сделать алутон в промышленных объемах не имеют успеха (заводской бывает похож на перебродивший квас). Это связано с тем, что алутон варят в каждом осетинском селении по своей рецептуре и только во время общинных мероприятий. Поэтому, как и настоящий плов алутон можно приготовить только в домашних условиях (на воздухе, чтобы он дышал при варке) и при обязательном участии человека (лучше женщины) - его рук и души.

@@Iron_61, интересная история, не знала. Бабушка тоже варила на открытом огне на воздухе. Мы были совсем маленькими, любили спускаться по огромным земляным ступеням в погреб под домом. Там висели какие-то веники сушеной травы, был и этот огромный металлический котёл.Пиво сама пробовала, помню, очень вкусное. Но уже моя мама и тёти этим не занимались. А вода во Владикавказе до 90-х даже проточная очень чистая была, голубая. Правда потом почему-то испортилась, стала как везде.

No, Harry Decker is right. English is irregular as to spelling and pronunciation, and there is no predictability unlike other languages with a more logical spelling tradition and practice. In Russian there is the name Gyorgi. In English the same name is George. If you pronounce the English version letter by letter, you can tell English used to pronounce George as its original form "Gyorgi" even though today we say "Jorj." It's obvious English has changed from the spelling but Russian has stayed constant for his one word. Today knight and night are pronounced the same. But centuries ago the hard k was pronounced for knight. This is why people who long ago acquired the family name of Knight sometimes spell it KenKnight, to emphasize the correct original version.
