We were recently visited by a traveler from outside our solar system. This is the first time we’ve ever seen an object that came to us from interstellar space. It's name is 'Oumuamua. Check out curiositystream.com/spacetime

Understanding the Uncertainty Principle with Quantum Fourier Series

In this Space Time Journal Club we look into the origins of 'Oumuamua, an asteroid visiting us from beyond our solar system! We'll focus on the results of:
"The origin of interstellar asteroidal objects like 1I/2017 U1"
Portegies Zwart, Pelupessy, Bedorf, Cai & Torres 2017
arxiv.org/abs/1711.03558
On October 19th this year astronomers spotted an object moving rapidly away from the sun. The discovery was made by Pan-STARRS - the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System: a group of telescopes that constantly monitor the sky for moving or variable objects like asteroids or comets, It was initially thought to be a new comet, but after 34 days of follow up observations and a bit of orbital mechanics, it became abundantly clear that we were looking at the first object ever observed that came from outside our solar system. The mysterious object has been dubbed 1I: the first object in a brand new International Astronomical Union class, with “I” standing for “interstellar”. 1I also scored a more poetic name: 'Oumuamua, from the Hawaiian meaning “a messenger from afar arriving fast”.

Look at the shape of it. It was spinning wildly but slowed its spin. If it stops spinning around its X axis but spins at its Y axis like a football and is aimed right at the center of earth... I mean, that's Kinetic Bombardment aka "Rods from Gods". They would have had to have known about life emerging on this planet and hated the idea enough to blow up our planet to stop someone like us from ever emerging. I'd say xenophobic before I'd say immature.

When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. The first sign - the Earth will spin faster. The second sign concerns the sun, which will loom larger, brighter and begin to spin. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beaware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. - banking collapse was deliberately masterminded by the Antichrist - Antichrist will step in and create a false peace in the state of Israel by joining them with palestine in an unlikely alliance. - „He will recite extracts from My Teachings, which he will passionately proclaim from every secular stage in the world, until people sit up and take notice of him.“ The Book of Truth mdmlastprophet.com/the-time-for-the-schism-in-the-church-is-almost-here-and-you-must-get-prepared-now/ mdmlastprophet.com/arab-uprising-will-spark-global-unrest-italy-will-trigger-fall-out/

I think it's poetic that every episode is required to end with a prepositional phrase or a verbal direct object in order to give the signature closing to the script. The word that always owns the action of the final sentence, and the last word, is spacetime.

Two questions: 1. With it's velocity, what would have happened if it hit us, the moon or some other body within our solar system? 2. What would Earth look like from 1I's perspective? If it was an alien ship or probe, would it have confirmed life on Earth?
@blueelf731
@blueelf731 6 років тому
supreme84x I can answer number 2 -> A spacecraft in that position would immediately have known Earth is inhabited by intelligent life forms. It would noticed all our unnatural radio waves very quickly. Even without the radio waves, a spectral analysis of our atmosphere would've shown our planet has life.
@garethdean6382
@garethdean6382 6 років тому
1.) If it hit us it would be an extinction level event. It's not as big as the dinosaur killer but it's moving at quite a clip and you could expect global devastation from it. 2.) A probe not much more advanced than what we make could detect life on Earth from out around Mars. If this thing's a probe of any kind it could sit out around Jupiter and get a good reading.
@krissisk4163
@krissisk4163 6 років тому
1. It depends on how dense it is. It's a fairly small object, so unless it's made of dense rock it would probably burn up in the atmosphere or explode high up in a Tunguska-like event. If it is dense enough to impact, then that impact would be in the tens of gigatons range due mostly to its velocity (velocity scales kinetic energy exponentially whereas mass only scales it linearly). To put that in perspective, when the Russians built the Tsar Bomba they dialed it down to 50 megatons because there was some concern that the original 100 megaton design would be enough to wipe out humanity. Tens of gigatons would scour the Earth completely clean. It would be an extinction level event that the Earth would never recover from. 2. It wouldn't even have to come into the solar system to confirm life on Earth. Anything advanced enough to send out interstellar probes could do that without leaving their home system by doing a spectral analysis of our atmosphere.

@clarencechen8308 6 років тому
One issue is that to capture it, you need a massive probe with enough fuel to slow the entire asteriod down from its tremendous velocity, and sending this probe to intercept the asteriod will involve an even bigger spacecraft. the timescale for capturing it will also be decades down the road, especially with the extreme inclination of the asteriod. all and all, its very impractical. In kerbal space program, the asteriods are spawned in more or less circular orbits, not like the hyperbolic trajectory this asteriod is on

Yes its an artificially modified (alien) space rock, also a crystalline form of AI that manipulates gravitational "zero-point energy" with inter-dimensional technology on the inside. It has 6 lifeforms aboard it - humanoid, bird, reptile, fish, bigfoot, etc. - who sadly perished while in stasis during the trip due to some catastrophe. It is meant for earth, a gift from lyria (vega), our grandchildren. It's a shame it got away, we shouldve kept it here

To bad we didn’t have the technology to quickly send a fast moving probe to check out our visitor, and maybe take a sample. I can only dream about all we could’ve learned from it. Hopefully if we ever get another interstellar visitor sometime in the future, we will have the capabilities to investigate it further.

I think it would mostly hinge on whether it is going towards a section of space we have directed sufficient attention to. But while feasible, it is maybe out of our reach for now. Oh well, we have 20,000 years until it leaves to figure it out... so I think it is safe to say someone will know by then.

One of the funny calculation done recently figuring it sped up while passing the sun from a solar sail effect said for the amount of speed change the object calculated to be less the a mm wide. That's a good reason for recent projections of it's possibly an alien craft of sorts.

@Skylancer727
@Skylancer727 5 років тому
So to do that we would need a swarm of satellites flying around our solar system ready to get hit by it to land and considering the how long it took to find just one interstellar object who's to say the satellites will even last long enough to achieve their goals? That would basically be a multi billion dollar project which over 99% of the money was just wasted making space debris. Like building a mirror in space to block out the sun to prevent climate change it is a nice concept but basically impossible to achieve.

Oumuamua is apparently red in color indicating an iron component. Certain frequencies of light and charge particles cause current flow in different metals. With current comes a flux field. Magnetic field from the sun(or other planets/stars/bodies) and or charged particles can then interact with this flux field to impart an accelleration. Certain metals can also become magnetized in which case they will be influenced by magnetic fields of other bodies i.e. planets and stars. This would likely be the case with countless other objects in the universe and could explain other things such as the galaxy spin and eliminate the need for dark matter.
