As a barber 43 years, I have to say Japanese shears, razors and steel implements are by far the best in the world. I've tried all kinds. The Japanese beat German Solingen steel in the 80's by a mile and never looked back. All my steel tools are Japanese. Thank you. They literally become extensions of my hands.

刃物を作るときにふりかける粉は何かと疑問に思っていました。硼酸（ほうさん）と鉄粉だったのですね。 ８１歳とは思えない元気な職人、そして、将来、後継者となる若い職人は頼もしいですね。

予想以上の工程の多さにびっくり。 後継者いなくて、廃業も多いと聞きます。受け継がれてよかった。

I like how calm they are. They are not trying to make as much razors as they can to sell more and more. They are doing it one razor at a time. This just shows how our life style should change.

Most impressive! As an American, our mass production really undermines the craftsmanship required in ages past. It's so easy to just go to the store and buy a "razor", but once I saw the labor, skill, and time involved in this video, it gives me a much greater appreciation for the small things I usually take for granted. If only everything in life took this discipline to master, I feel people would appreciate the little things that much more. Always a fan of a tradesmen taking pride in their work. The everyday "Mundane" has much more depth, sweat, and passion than we'll ever truly comprehend.

When i saw the final test..damn! Thats sharp! Hope the trainee could further grow the business. People now does not know that old school razors are mor3 economical than disposable ones..you can just buy one in your lifetime and just sharpen it with a leather belt. Cheers from philippines! Love the whole process. How long from start to finish for one razor? How many do they make in a day? These must cost a fortune in order for both of them to make a living. Well worth it I'm sure.

I didn't understand why the quenching had to be done in the dark, but then I realized it's to better see the color (the temperature) of the metal to know when it's ready to quench

of course the craftsmanship of just about anything engineered is almost always sub standard if it aint Japanese...sure glad the old master has an apprentice and my hats off to the new guy. Theyre both fun to watch working.
