I’m so confused I finished this movie and thought it was really good and liked all the characters and looked it up online to see all the bad reviews. Like I actually really liked James Corden in this and I thought him and Meryl played off of each other pretty well. I’ve read so many reviews and it seems like most people didn’t have the time to look past that he was playing the character to actually watch the movie with no bias in mind. The soundtrack was great and lived up to that of the musicals and the wardrobe and coloring of the whole film was done amazingly. It felt like a rollercoaster of a ride, because one minute I was laughing and the next I had tears in my eyes. This movie really didn’t deserve the hate it received.

Dude, he is horrible. Just think of all the talented actors out there who actually needs a job, instead of a guy with a steady TV show gig, someone who doesn't "act" for a living. Why not use on of the thousands of unknown talents out there, someone that could have actually played a character instead of low quality comedian with this "whatever I say is hilarious" attitude. Whoever decided to put Meryl with him... I mean, think about it. Why him? Of all people! They are so afraid their precious jokes won't land if they don't hire a comedian, but he is not funny!!!! There is nothing funny about him. Hire talent!

Netflix, as a gay man, is it possible to not use a heterosexual man (who are most probably paid a lot of money for this role) to portray a typical stereotype of what a gay man should act like? Feminine and flamboyant. It’s just offensive! Honestly. Why not just use a gay man who happen to be feminine if that is what the role demands?
@laurencewhite4809
@laurencewhite4809 3 роки тому
I actually have no problem with a straight man portraying a gay character... but him? He so desperately tried to "act gay", instead of just being himself. Its so contrived and comes off as really bad acting. But of course, when you don't have any talent, how can you expect anything other than a cartoonish performance.

@@Unknown-ms3tr I know that I can argue about this forever. Yes, robin was heterosexual as far as we know, but the characters he played way back was the norm, all gay men was portrayed in a flamboyant way, the difference is, he was amazing as an actor, and extremely funny, his costars was gay though. Now we live in 2020, and should have come longer in my opinion. But I admit, I don’t like James at all in this movie, he is an absolute shit actor. That’s my opinion.
@quizzlybear
@quizzlybear 3 роки тому
I agree about not every gay man is effeminate and not every straight male is hyper masculine. Stereotypes in general are going to give me an aneurism! Human's need to categorize people to better understand them is absolutely suffocating. But what I can't agree with is not allowing heterosexual men to play gay characters. This would create more problems for gays who already have a hard time getting roles. By that restriction, gay people could only play gay characters and that is already limiting as it is. Plenty of gay people should be able to play roles that don't limit them on the basis of their sexuality either. We need more roles for the lgbqt community, not less! Plus, you'd have to be out and gay and not all gay people are. Can you imagine how invasive it is to ask someone's sexuality during an audition? We still have a looooong way to go before homophobia is no more. Also, this would prioritize someone's sexuality over talent which is not the point of acting. A gay director once stated he didn't think any straight man could portray a gay character because there's no way they could understand, but then this straight dude auditions and completely blows him away. No other person could who auditioned could compare. This guy can make his project/film that much better. Hiring a less talented actor could do more harm than your project than good. Acting is all about making the audience believe you are something you are not, an if an actor can do that I don't see an issue.
@laurencewhite4809
@laurencewhite4809 3 роки тому
Please... please.... can we stop hiring this dude. Think of all the talent out there, think of all the people that not only needs a job but someone who could actually create a character, instead of an indisputably unfunny guy with a steady talk show gig. I hate to break it to you, but acting is actually a skill. Instead of just being a character, being himself, he tries to "act g@y". It comes off as intensely contrived. They are so desperate their precious jokes won't land if they don't hire a comedian... and then they hire him! Like WTF! Have you ever laughed at anything he has ever done? Seeing him is like nails on a chalk board. He was probably hired before Cats premiered, I guess that is an excuse.

He is being directed and scripted to act a certain way, he's not just winging "acting gay". He is also portraying actual mannerisms from the character in the Broadway production, not just doing the most offensive stereotypical thing he can think of. @@laurencewhite4809 James Corden is more than an “unfunny talk show host”. I hate that people dumbing him down to that. He started off as an actor! He’s an actor who happens to host a talk show. Sure, said talk show has become his primary source of income, but that doesn’t make him any less of an actor. Acting is a skill, and he definitely has the skill.
