@MacPhantom
@MacPhantom Місяць тому
@@jacosta5580 Exactly. It won't happen. The popularity of iPods (and high-quality audio players) is near zero, despite what this video claims. Also, we'll never see the headphone jack back in portables, because this would affect one of the biggest lies and scams in modern consumer audio tech: the abominable "true wireless earphone" craze, also invented by Apple with the AirPods. It's a scam for two reasons: on the one hand, Apple officially claimed "innovation" and "better audio quality" as reasons for dropping the headphone jack from iPhones (both are just lies). On the other, and even worse, those bluetooth earbuds are throwaway consumer waste, with non-replaceable batteries, requiring pennies to produce and sold at an unbelievable profit margin. You just don't make good profit with high-quality stuff, especially now that everything is mainstream-commercialised. True wireless earbuds are the cheap and nasty way out of this, and thanks to brilliant marketing, consumers fall for it.

Great video. Another reason I'd add-people don't like relying on streaming subscriptions for music, where legal battles can remove your music at any time, they can change the terms of the service or raise the price, and you have to keep paying forever or else lose your music. It's much nicer to have a local collection of CDs and/or MP3s, and iPods are perfect for listening to your own permanent, curated library.

I ordered an mp3 player online cause I'm sick of getting ads on spotify and also because during school trips, i tend to listen to music in the bus but by the time I arrive to the destination my phone's battery basically gets halved. So I got it to prevent that as well. I'm a late gen z, born in 2007 so most ipods are older than me. I never had an mp3 player as a kid but I had friends with strict parents who got one before they had a phone. I find mp3 players very fascinating as I've always associated playing media with smartphones or computers, you know, expensive devices. I just find it so cool that a pretty cheap device can do all of that. It's a new world for me and I like it.
@SuperFlashDriver
@SuperFlashDriver Місяць тому
As a kid, I grew up using CD players that had a headphone Jack, and was able to play about 13 songs on a full released CD, and about 25 songs on one burned CD-R/CD+RW/CD+R. It wasn't until 2010 that I started using Zune devices, and then ten years later I was given my older brother's iPhone, and since then, considering that the iPhone ends up using so much battery, I just rather use a laptop or a device that I can include WAV files into my Zune rather than convert it into HQ 320Kbps MP3s instead.

I have lots of nostalgia for these devices and picked up an iPod classic 6 120gb about 3 years ago. I would add even the "right to own your music" since now we are in a streaming era as well where if you have a niche you follow as artist it can bump around different services or not be available anymore straight up so the cost monthly to keep even just tidal and Spotify for example can be as buying 2 albums per month, which is not much at the beginning but if you keep doing that you can build an incredibly big library of music that you actually own from the digital files and will never be taken from you
@SuperFlashDriver
@SuperFlashDriver Місяць тому
It's most likely that on Spotify, I have had recordings on both Screenflow AND OBS, and I can guarantee you the screenflow and OBS recordings are basically digital copies of my own recordings of how I recorded the screen. Most of the music I've screen recorded through OBS or Screenflow, the visual is only there if I need to know what the title, artist, and album of the song it's currently playing, but it's the audio that's most important.

The further I go on a journey similar to yours, Spencer, I find myself increasingly drawn to and recommending to others the virtues of single use devices. Like with people, things that try to be everything and do anything scarcely excel at any one thing. Purpose built devices that do what they do well with no extra padding or strings attached are awesome. As to people who keep harping on the willpower issue, quite frankly I put smart phone usage in a similar category as addiction to other vices like alcohol. It's really easy to sit back and tell someone to just have more willpower and more control, but when you're constantly exposed to devices that are intentionally meant to be addictive, and there is peer and societal pressure to use them all the time, sometimes the best solution truly is to remove the temptation entirely. Smart.

#6 The audio quality is better. I have a Bluetooth receiver connected to my 1979 Yamaha Hi Fi and I was streaming from my phone and not happy with the audio quality. 2 things acted to reduce the overall listening enjoyment 1) the DAC in the iPhone and 2) Bluetooth itself. Then only just this weekend I remembered the long forgotten iPod Gen 5 Classic sitting in the bottom draw. Haven't used it for years. I dragged it out and charged it. It accepted charge so I connected it via the RCA line in to the headphone jack and voila! Music sounded infinitely better than the phone - almost as good as vinyl only easier as I don't have to get up and change sides every 6 songs or so! So def audio quality should be on your list.

Hey Spencer ... just found your video and I love it. I use my iPod daily at the gym to listen to music, because I don't take my phone there (unlike most of the guys up there, who spend more time playing on their phones than lifting weights :-).) Yesterday my old iPod finally died after 9 years of heavy use. I was thinking about buying another one -- until I found an old deactivated iPhone 4 in my desk drawer. I wiped it clean and right now it's working perfectly as my new "iPod." Call it Repurposing With A Purpose. Looking forward to your future videos!

I bout my first iPod in 2004 and still been using one ever since. I have since filled up the hard drive. Now I have to delete songs to add new ones, but I do have over 29700 songs on it, and I have music on it going back to the year 1900 to 2024. I have over 124 years of music on it. I continued using an iPod all these years because it worked for me and I have a large library of music all in one device, and smart phones can't give me what my iPod can.

As a DJ, I’m inspired to get an iPod now because instead of lugging around my 15 inch MacBook Pro just cause it has all my old songs, I could transfer those songs to an iPod and plug that into my mixer instead . My iPad is my main device with my dj softeare but I always keep an extra device for more music or to blend from one device to another, instead of over working the iPad using UKposts and dj software and other software etc. thanks for the content!

Been using my iPod classic video since 2007 and it's still trucking. It got it's tiny battery expansion screen dot in 2010-2011 but nothing has progressed since. It gets charged once a week and gets put back into its case and is kept cool to prevent any issues with expansion. Hopefully it's got several more years in it yet 👍👍

Nice video! 👍 With the exception of nostalgia since I’m older than dirt you covered pretty much all the reasons I still use my iPod Classic. * The UI. I’ve been obsessed with science and technology since I was little and I bought a CD player when they new and about the only genre you could get was classical. I now own countless CDs that I’ve arranged by genre, artist, release date, etc. since I’m obsessive. 😄 Once I got an iPod I had all that in my hand plus the ability to create complex playlists. It was a huge leap over my Sony Discman. (I don’t use it anymore, but my Discman still works. 😂) * The lack of interference and distractions. The great thing about my iPod is I can listen to music and not get interrupted by phone calls and texts and not get distracted by notifications.

*_OMG! I suddenly missed my iPods from way back then. I remember the Apple iPod Shuffle as my first because I was on a strict budget. Then the iPod Nano which I genuinely love. It was so tiny and thin and lightweight and I love the hardware so much. Also had the iPod Classic 60GB which was already humongous that time. Then finally the iPod Touch. I would love to have and own an iPod (Nano or Mini) once again. But even if it ain't an iPod, would love to get a cheap/inexpensive MP3 music player. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers_*

Great video, thank you! My 2 classic iPods generation 5 & 6 have always been my wurlitzer jukebox. 20+ years ago I spent summers uploading my collection of cd’s to my Mac. The memory on home computers at the time couldn’t hold my collection. I got those iPods to keep my music library safe and portable. Half my cd’s are gone several computers later, I can still listen to those hard to find tunes in many genres. I’m glad to hear they are making a comeback. Now I will not worry if they ever need a tuneup🎶🎵!;D

When I watched this I was filled with thoughts of the early 2000's, the days walking on campus at college and jamming to my iPod(s). There was nothing better back then and I think you hit the nail on the head with not only why they were great, but also why they are important now. Back then a cell phone was mainly for calling and texting. Sure you could try and do "smart things" with them but it was in vain. Music on a phone was laughable back then too. It was very cumbersome. To this day I still have and maintain my iTunes library and have like 5,000 songs in it. But I don't use iTunes any more. I blame this on smart phones. Long story short, it is neat to see that the old iPods are making a comeback. I get why and you explained it. There was something magical back then carrying thousands of songs and a few movies on them. I am so glad I kept all of mine even though my Wife tried to get me to toss them. I think I have like 5 or 6. I do believe I want to pop one open and mod the HDD and battery and get back to the simple days. Crazy to think this old tech is so popular now. I don't feel old, but I don't feel young any more. lol I do feel nostalgia in all facets when it comes to a simpler time, and the early 2000's and tech was the best time to be around it, period!

For Apple Ipods the weak link is iTunes. Not just it's flakiness in restoring the firmware, but it's terrible dB based music library and dependence on a single iTunes install for keeping the music library in sync. Rockbox is the way to go. Just copy lossless flacs to the iPod via file explorer and you get the benefit of highest quality music with very comprehensive sound controls and dynamic play lists.

Was a young adult during the MP3 explosion. This is when I started transferring all my music CD’s to the best sounding compression. Still have my favorite players from those earlier days such as various iconic Apples, Sony and Creative Labs. I still cherish these devices, but once the Apple phones and iPads started offering large enough storage capacities I copied my MP3’s to them for listening as these devices are always with me.
