Huge fan from my teenage years to my late twenties. Seen them live several times in different parts of the world. The last time I saw them was with a friend who was also a fan, and at one point during the concert we looked at each other and both said: This just isn't very good is it? Details aside, they were mere shadows of a project that broke ground and influenced so many artists. This is already a couple decades ago by now. I haven't seen them since. They should have quit while the going was good, like so many in the biz. Oh well, we still have the early stuff to look back on.

Welcome to the crew. I grew up watching this band's videos thanks to a friend. Growing up, I just accepted it as musical reality.

Not Available is the best album I think. Listen to it all in one go with full attention. It builds to the most beautiful finale.

Daniel Tittyfish Oh I know the residents were not regular MTV fare. I said they were "speaking to" MTV. This early music video stuff was definitely aware of MTV, engaging with similar vocabulary, but in parodic and satirical ways.

They did. The brown one got stolen, and then returned, and they said it was cursed. Therefore, Mr. Skull came into being (first on the keyboardist, then on the vocalist later on). The masks were changed in the '90s to be a bit more accommodating to playing on stage (better vision, lighter) and the skull was articulated. All the masks were changed to blue eyes at that point. They don't really do the eyes and skull thing since about the mid-2000s, though. I believe both the old ones and the later ones were made at ILM.

It's in one of the books about them from the '90s. Can't remember if it was the Uncle Willie one or the more detailed biography.

I heard this version first and was surprised to discover the Residents didn't actually change that much.
