Man I could never forget that speech Regan gave after Challenger blew up that last part always made me tear up.. "They have slip the bounds of Earth and touched the face of god!" When a lot of people around me lost it crying it was a dark time when they took place in 86. What image that always lived in my mind of the disaster was the fireball which was being somewhat encircled by the two rockets that continued to spin out of control.

I was at GSU in Atlanta when it happened. During my lunch break between classes, I heard a report on my Walkman radio and went into the student centre to watch it on TV. The next day, we had a memorial service in the chapel. Together, many students of various faiths were together and even prayed and sang without any rancor that I could see. It was different on 9/11, but I had already graduated and working by then. Still, we should remember: "Never forget" (for both).

It is a real treat to see how you incorporated R. Lee Ermey in as the Supreme Commander of the MACO's. Also, weaving the Stiles clan into the storyline does much to fill in the historical tapestry that was alluded to in TOS episode Balance of Terror. Well done.

The only reason Star Trek was having the Dominion war was because Babylon 5 was having the shadow war that was getting more views. I guess Babylon 5 showed Star Trek how to get more viewers to tune in. Anyway thanks Babylon Five for turning Star Trek from space sissies to almost badass. The UFP space hippies still have some ways to go from being bully magnets but they are starting grow a sit.
@time391
@time391 Рік тому
@@neganrex5693 To be fair, DS9 wasn't like any of the other Star Trek shows before or ever since, due to the unrelenting realpolitik of Captain Sisko. He was a religiou leader, a military commander, and one of the few Starfleet officers willing to do what was needed to secure peace in the midst of a rising Dominion aggression and plots against the Federation. TNG was an era of peace that only got shattered by the Borg, but it was still mostly peaceful with a few flare-ups. DS9 was unstable era of conflict with huge stakes. Beyond that, DS9 introduced elements other star trek shows have tried and failed to incorporate properly like Section 31, a spy agency that was secret that acted as judge, jury, and executioner. All the other shows after tried to copy it, tried to conceive stories around this mysterious secret police/intelligence agency, but failed miserably. To me, Star Trek revealed the reality and social commentary about the costs of civilization and nationhood, whether it's Romulan Tal Shiar or Cardassian Obsidian Order being akin to Russian FSB and Chinese MIS agencies versus Federation's Section 31 akin to US own NSA agency, no nation-state democratic or totalitarian can maintain itself without such means. Something most Trekkies back then and now fail to accept or want to accept is that such tools are necessary to preserve paradise in whatever form the civilization behind them wants. Kind of kills that notion of individuality and freedom being ultimate goals. Then, there was Sisko's false flag operation against the Romulans in order to win the War against the Dominion. No other Star Trek or Sci-Fi show to that point had ever done something like In the Pale Moonlight, because no one dared to challenge the notion that the ends justify the means. He willingly allowed another nation to send an army to fight for his in order to stave off defeat. Were his goals noble? Depends on the eye of the beholder, humanity would agree it was, but Romulans and Dominion Citizens who died due to his actions would call him a war criminal. However, they won the war and ultimately that is what mattered, survival of the Federation first rather than morality or ethics. Even Babylon 5 didn't go down that route, Sheridan and Delenn most controversial actions like using telepaths as suicide bombers was a pale shadow to the billions of lives Sisko and Garak eventually killed through their actions. That kind of social commentary is far more controversial than talking about gender, race, or ethnic identity because at its core, it challenges the very notion of liberty and free will. DS9 was beyond Woke, it was fully awake and dealt with reality rather than pretending little issues define it. Victory is life, indeed.

Nukes in Star Trek is kind of weird. Most of the hull upgrades in the 23rd century made nukes pretty useless, and a nuclear apocalypse happened on Earth so it's likely that the Federation would avoid these things. Romulans had self destruct using nukes, but that was pretty much it.

It's interesting to note that some of the Romulan warships bore a stark resemblance to _KLINGON_ battlecruisers; the only known-albeit, brief-alliance between those two powers was in the late 2260s (ST: TOS 'The Enterprise Incident'). As to nukes being used by BOTH sides, anti-matter warheads were not cheap; anti-matter was primarily used for warp propulsion.

Well a civilization devoted to warfare against their neighbors inevitably will have certain types of vessels devoted to certain types of duty. And by virtue of that their layout would almost certainly be similar. But in this case the Klingons would have copied the design for the D7 from that dreadnought design... but if you watch any of the stuff related to Axanar, several classes of their ships follow that layout design. But it certainly makes sense because having the bulk of the armaments and the PowerPlant separate from much of the crew complement is essentially a sensible design. Plus the idea of being able to separate in the event of a disaster it's one thing to die in honorable combat but to die senselessly due to a core breach that would need to be a method of Starship separation. Plus you would have any weapons that could be potentially unstable in the section with the engine core.

This is amazing! I have been a huge fan of the Romulans since TOS, "Balance of Terror". Glad to see more coverage on the Romulans which is why DS9 is my favorite series. I am so sick of the dingleberry Klingons and Borg in Star Trek universe.

Jeff did great in this .. he has gotten a lot of props from my filmmaker friends who have watched it. The Klingon like ship is excellent. I can see where some might complain that it is too early, but considering that this film is at least 100 times better than anything Discovery has put out, I'm good with it. Moreover, it's easily explained. During the cold war, and even present day, major powers steal each others designs. Look at the Concord and the Soviet version of the Concord. I would find it far more likely that the Romulans would steal a ship design from the Klingons instead of trade them. Explanation #2 could be that STD has already established that the Klingons have cloaks so the tech trade has already happened. In any case, it's great work all the way around.
@TheRomulanWar
@TheRomulanWar 3 роки тому
We do know that the Klingons & Romulans have a history of spying on each other and stealing tech from each other, so our theory is that it was the Romulans who created the Stormbird battlecruiser design during the Earth-Romulan War and the Klingons copied its basic design sometime over the next century to create the D-7 by the time of TOS. Then, the Romulans saw something in the D-7 they thought worked better than what they had and rebuilt their old Stormbirds with the Klingons' improvements. Too big a stretch? Maybe, but like you said there is some real-life historical precedent and besides, this doesn't CONFLICT with Trek canon... it just tweaks what you thought you already knew.
@geoffreyswann624
@geoffreyswann624 3 роки тому
@@TheRomulanWar it has already been established in canon however, that the Romulans received the D7 design in exchange for cloaking technology. It would have been more accurate, and dare I say more creative to design a wholly Romulan ship to act as the capital ship of their fleet. That said, it is still a great production. It certainly beats the living hell out of Discovery (Though that’s not that hard in my opinion). Also the whole depicting the praetor as a darth sideous character is a little on the nose 😉
@TheRomulanWar

This is outstanding work which expertly integrates the gravitas of Prelude to Axanar, with contemporary CGI of exemplary quality. I find the actors' contributions to be well fitted in tone and execution to a retrospective presentation of cataclysmic galactic events. The storyline is cogently built, with incrementally increasing portents of the full scale engagement to come. I can say nothing more than this being as far more representative of association with the ST brand than anything produced by Secret Hideout, just as Kirk's Enterprise was as distant from being a garbage scow (or literally garbage). Congratulations indeed, on a great beginning to what we will be able to enjoy, in all the wonderful manifestations that it promises!!!👏👏👏🖖🖖🖖👍👍👍
