Martin Tenbones just looked perfect. I have zero doubts that this will be a massive success, looking at the info released season two would start with Season of Mists, which would be huge.

Yeah, looks like they’re really hoofing it to get all the way through A Doll’s House. I hope Men Of Hood Fortune is in too. If they can pull that kind of pacing off maybe we’ll get all of Dream Country and Season of Mists in Season 2?

@@jasongarrett768 Likely one or two stories from Dream Country this season (Calliope and possibly Dream of a Thousand Cats, to be specific). The pacing is pretty similar to the Audible version - 10 hours for volumes 1 and 2 + those one or two stories from volume 3. And yeah, Men of Good Fortune is there - combined with Sound of Her Wings in episode 6. And yeah, Martin Tenbones and the environment of The Land look on point - particularly for being created for just one short scene this season.

@@jasongarrett768 Well, can't be sure - but Neil said very recently that season 1 covers volumes 1-2 and "part of volume 3". The only two stories from Dream Country that have any indication of having been made are Calliope (Neil posted a photo of a prop book for "Here Comes a Candle", and Calliope has been cast), and Dream of a Thousand Cats (Neil answered a question about cat casting with "The first cats were cast yesterday" (paraphrased) - but that was a year ago, as far as I recall - much may have changed since then - and he might cryptically have really been talking about multiple cat actors for the "cat of dreams" for episode 1.

I believe they will be expanding a lot of characters in order to deepens the story and to take more advantage of the actors themselves. They are betting on them ;)

Gaiman himself realized later that he put the original Cornithian to bed, a bit too quickly. There was far more story to tell with him. It is why some of his backstory was filled in later, in some of the limited series and one-shots.

I know! The Corinthian looks absolutely amazing too! I wanted more story for him, and now we're finally getting it!

Up until now I have found that all the changes from the original favor the story. The Corinthian explaining to Burgess how to lock up Dream makes much more sense than the amateur magician just finding out how to do it. Lucifer fighting Dream and losing to the concept of hope both makes the match much more tense than "Endless vs random demon" and also works great as a setup to Season of Mists John Dee's motivation and conclusion are way more memorable in the show than just "mad man gets dream's power and violent orgy happens" Trading John Constantine for Joanna Constantine seems like a neutral change. Doesn't seem to make the story around them worse or better but I guess it's a bit cleaner if you don't include the justice league in this story. The only part I have a bit of a problem with is Rose's. It's... still a mess of a storyline that's kind of hard to follow.

@@danyburlacu825 I read the comics and still like the changes, Neil is the one that helped make those changes. So I don't think there are really any discrepancies if the original creator is behind them

It's crazy that they get that far into the series in season one, unless it's that snippet of people's dreams that live in Hals house during The Dolls house ( the more I think on it the more that seems the case, especially when you get the JCM/Hal in drag image.

Yeah, I think it’s all we see of him in A Doll’s House IIRC? I can’t see them going further than that without really speedrunning the series and I hope that never happens, especially wit all the single issue stories waiting to be adapted.

@@timothylangston3560 You do see Martin Tenbones in the Doll's house! When Rose goes full Vortex, before her chat with morpheus and unity, all the housemates' dreams get mixed together. That includes martin tenbones! (Took out my omnibus to reread to get ready for the series lol)

Eh, people love to complain but honestly this looks like one of the best comic book adaptations I've ever seen, and the amount of care and effort put into everything makes me excited for it

It's because they think the decisions made are "woke" get ready to hear that word a lot.. It's what Fox uses to describe anything minority, gay, or female related.. they forget that comics have been pandering since WWII.. pandering to whatever gets them the most sales..

Now that I know how incredibly close they were, however, Gilbert will seem somewhat incomplete without a “Francis Green” accompanying him on his adventures. Oh, well, I look forward to Stephen Fry’s performance.

Pretty sure things that never will be fall under Delirium's domain actually, since she notably seems to have knowledge of things outside of Destiny's domain, which is all that is, was, or ever will exist. Rather, the books in the library are likely echoes of dreams that *did* exist, as they were conjured out of the dreamer's imagination, but were never brought into reality. Personally, I think a huge part of the misconceptions about the power of Dream is that dreams are commonly dismissed as escapisms and fantasies, when that's not all there is. After all, dreams make up the fabric of who you are. They are your goals, ideas, morals: the culmination of all your emotions, desires, beliefs, and experiences -- both good and bad. They are the what-could-have-beens and what-could-bes. They are what makes you put your foot down against what is morally wrong, and what pushes you to do what's morally right. They are the driving force in your story. As Destruction says, the Endless don't just embody their given concepts, they also define their opposites. Dreams are what anchors you to reality, what gives you purpose, what makes you want to go out and make an impact on the world, what helps dictate your choices and actions in life. And because of how varied we are, these dreams take on all sorts of forms: Maybe you want to become president and change the world for the better. Maybe you want your husband's head on a plate and his wealth in your pocket. Maybe you want to flay people alive and tan their skin into collectible neckties. Maybe you want to preserve the memory of the city you love most forever. It doesn't matter what it is, it's your dream. It's what makes you want to hang on and try again when all hope is lost, what makes you tough it out when the going gets rough, what makes your life something worth living. It's what gives you wonder in delirium, a ward against despair, an aim to your desire, the power to destroy any obstacles in your path, pride in death, and the will to pursue your own destiny. Dreams are powerful, and are never to be underestimated. After all, in the end it only takes a single dreamer to enact change, topple empires, shape the future of their race. And a thousand of them, fervently dreaming the same dream at the same time? Why, that has the power to rewrite reality itself. (This doesn't mean that Morpheus is any more powerful than his siblings though. After all, dreams are still vulnerable to being destroyed, or thrown off-course by desire, or warped by delirium, or consumed by despair. Normal dreams cannot hope to stand up to the immutable will of destiny and, despite what Matthew tells us, like all things dreams must eventually die. Plus, there are still rules even the Endless are bound to, as seen with how the summoning spell keeps a severely weakened Morpheus prisoner for over a hundred years)

This, so much. I wish you had posted this comment earlier so more people could see this - I love this take. I love the Sandman, but I love it because Neil crafted a brilliant story. And that brilliant story will always be there (in both comic AND audio from too!). So I think we get the better deal if the show does adapt and grow int something slightly different, because that means we get to see Gaiman's storytelling at work again.

Who’s pissed off? Nobody educated; Except for Mormons, Angels are ALL created androgynous, they can seem more feminine or masculine, but those are illusions. I’ll only be slightly annoyed with Death being black if she STAYS black in the Medieval European flashbacks. Eternals can appear as ANY race or even entirely different alien gods, such as Dream appearing as a Martian version of himself to Martian Manhunter during an interesting encounter with the Justice League. But they wouldn’t appear in a white human form amongst Africans who had never seen a white person, so why would Death appear as an African in medieval England? I’ve ZERO problem with the actress for the modern scenes, for in a cosmopolitan environment an eternal can appear however they like, although I think they should have made her up to be more slate gray, like a “dead”, bled out black person. But if in the flashback where Dream manifests as a black man in Africa plays out properly like in the books, BUT then Death is still a black woman in Medieval England, that will be a STUPID inconsistency. Can’t they do the “Cloud Atlas” thing to make her look European for that scene? It would be very brief.

Sandman is just what the DCU needs to boost itself ahead of Marvel.

You can enjoy both without hating one or the other

I was put off by the casting until I saw the Lucifer clip and damn she plays the role so well, they really put so much care into adapting this series

@@theoneabovetoaa6458 I mean... He said he doesnt want to play the devil again (in one of his interviews with Lucifer cast) and said he was done and it must come to an end. Not that he hates playing one, but its on-going for so long and repetitive. Like if you worked on the same project for 7+ years, you'll be done with it and want to do something else. Tom Ellis mentioned that he'd like to get into big screens. We should respect that and give Gwen her chance.

@@SasukeUchiha723 Also Tom Ellis is a very different Lucifer from the one in the comics. It wouldnt have made sense for a faithful comic interpretation. (and thats coming from someone who loves the lucifer series very much and watched every episode 4x)
