Ray was a real fighter. He might have had a clean image, but he was every bit down for the brutality of that sport. Some of the fastest hand speed you ever want to see. Plus he didn't just throw quantity, he threw punches with mean intention. When he had you hurt, it was over. One of the best finishers of all time.
@lookinforthe70sРік тому
@Bruce Wayne He did have a clean image. Nobody was thinking "look at that cocaine abuser, it made him fight longer". It doesn't matter if he did or didn't do cocaine, which you don't have proof of. His image was that he was a normal guy who wasn't from the streets committing crimes, "or doing coke". He said he had one time where he was tempted to do drugs and he didn't because of a friend. That's what he said. Don't know if he did or didn't. but that's what he said. Image is not about what you're actually doing. Image is about what you are perceived as by the general public. That's why I said it. Despite that people might not have thought he had an edge to him, he could have that killer instinct and get down and dirty in the ring as well.

That Tommy Hearns fight, the first one is an all-time classic. Hearns was winning at first until Angelo Dundee woke up Ray with that pep talk, and Sugar went to work on Hearns. Hearns scared anyone with that vicious right hand he had, he would have knocked out Marvelous Marvin if not for that hard head damn head Marvin had. Lol But it's too hard for me to choose one Sugar over the other because they both were great. Those 2 losses that Sugar Ray Leonard had at the end of his career to Terry Norris and Macho Camacho was not him, he was an old fighter by then that shouldn't have kept trying to come back from serious injuries.
