The countryside is weird. I reckon we might be the only country in the world whereby, no matter where you live within it, you're always around 45 minutes away from some strange annual ritual where everyone gets together to eat lukewarm burgers while attempting to whack a toy rat through a bit of plastic drainpipe to raise money for the air ambulance.
Yeah there's always gonna be kids convinced that actually they live in an alternate series of Top Boy (one with a big white tent dishing out lemon cake in May), and retired jobsworths looking to police the place via facebook, and one farmer literally everyone hates for village-admin reasons - but fair play it makes a change.
Scarecrow festival season soon, the world's getting a bit jollier, lemme know the weird annual event that takes place in your village

In my home town of Abingdon there's a tradition to mark royal events. Town councillors in full ceremonial robes climb to the top of the museum and chuck hot cross buns on the great unwashed masses thronging below. Almost as fun as getting headbutted on the Saxton Road.

Recently trekked through the countryside after living in London my whole life and yeah, most of this seems true. Most of the people were very nice though, even though every piece of land had barbed wire around it meaning I sometimes had to walk down one way roads with no pathway
